Lately, I have been considering throwing a specialized or classic only fighting game tournament for individuals that still love and enjoy games a generation prior(sometimes more then one lol).
I want to do something for the comunity that I grew with and give these games a legacy tournament ala x mania for st or dcc for vs.
The question is though: is there enough interest to make it “worth” everyones time? Are there enough of us still around to make the event worthwhile?
The main games I was looking at are cvs2, 3s, mvc2 and st. Id love to host more if possible (vs, jjba ggac+r, etc).
Id love to hear everyones thoughts or advice.
P.s. This is a classic fighting game group I started on fb, feel free to join if interested.
This sounds pretty cool. I joined this site pretty much to see if anybody was still playing old fighting games still.
I remember playing against you on GGPO a while back with about 35 ping, so you probably live close to me.
If you need any help online or offline, I wouldn’t mind helping out.
I’d definitely be interested in something like that. Sometimes it’s tough getting into the older games knowing that there’s not much tourney presence anymore. If there was at least an annual tournament going on for everyone’s favourite older game, I’m sure that would give a lot of players motivation to keep playing for that competition.
I hope you get enough interest! I’d love to see this succeed.
For me, I would just like to see people back playing games they enjoy versus games they feel like they have to play or there “isnt a place for them” in the community.
Im going to try my hardest to set up something nice for everyone.
P.s. Please if you guys are on facebook, join the group at the bottom of the first post. Organizing under one spot would be very helpful for this type of grassroots event.
A 3S event would be cool. I played it when I was a kid on the PS2, but I obviously wasn’t all that good back then (or even knew that people did tournaments for that stuff lol).
Sure, I played the newer games from time to time just because there’s a lot more competition there. But at the end of the day, I don’t enjoy those games, I don’t like some design choices, and I don’t enjoy grinding and it. The worst part is when you’re consistently beating a group of people, but you’re still bored and wish you were doing something else.
I don’t have that with ST. I will happily pay money per play to get my ass whooped on ST 50 games in a row, and I’ll still be having a good time.
