I’d like to start a thread about ambiguous crossups, as they give me a lot of trouble in this game especially.
It really bothers me when I block a crossup like deejays the opposite way (like I’m supposed to) and still get hit. Are these character specific? Normal ambiguous crossups, like when you’re not sure which side someone is actually going to land on I’m ok with
First, you should note that just because a character lands behind you doesn’t mean you should block the opposite way. Some setups just look like crossups and are always blocked normally (sometimes character specific).
You’ll have to learn the spacing of the crossups to recognize which way to block, or time your block so that you switch just as they cross you (although the best players make extremely difficult to tell in time). How big your character is, how fast he/she wakes up, the position of your opponent, the timing of the crossup, and the hit box of the crossup attack all affect which way you have to block.
That’s why they’re recognized as such effective tools; in theory, you have a 50/50 shot of guessing right. In practice though, players less familiar with the timing for jumping crossups generally do the non-crossup version a disproportionate amount of the time.
The sumo splash (down + MK) is awesome on wakeup. Can lead into cr.HP (for a 3-hit combo), or into a tick ochio.
Buttslam–after you ochio throw, can mix an MK buttslam (close side hit) vs. HK buttslam (far side hit). Then can get close and tick into another ochio, GOTO 10.
I always thought an ambiguous crossup was where you induce gender-identity confusion in your opponent during a jump attack.
Jump forward, press roundhouse, and yell “You want to kiss Tom” or maybe “I have a vagina” just before it connects. Often your opponent will stop blocking while he thinks.
