It’s be better to blame the artists at Marvel who came up with the sleeker design of recent years, including the Extremis armor that we see him wearing in game.
What’s wrong with the Extremis armor? It’s actually pretty beast if you ask me.
Iron Man’s had so many armor redesigns over the years that it’s no surprise that they’re going with the newest one in the comics (and I guess the movie as well).
For the sake of aesthetic awareness
Extremis Armor was primarily used in that [media=youtube]lfWPDzvWNds"]90’s cartoon and the sprite work from MSH. Of his many armors it is one of the few to have a pentagon shield on the chest. It is not his [[see 90’s] let a lone the basis for the movie design.
It’s been argued that [media=youtube]5eonc5_IU7I"]most of Ironman’s iconic armors](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ggW06QNcdI"[/media), like in the movie, have a sphere on the chest. imho the centurion and the extremis are the two that break the rule. however, the game doesn’t seem to take advantage of the extremis modular slots so the choice is more likely because it was the most popular armor when MSH was being made and [URL=“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLBw2Wa3_Dc&NR=1”[/media] in its own right.

wow upon reading the latter posts in page 2, people are mostly fond of the Modular Armor just because of the MvC games and the 90’s cartoon… a fair enough assessment but Come on…
that was the 90’s (which btw sucked IMO in comics lore) and all the armors are based off the original 1960’s red and gold armour (after the bulky Gray/gold debut ones)
The Extremis Armor is perfect since that is an armor with rellevance to a long running subplot about Extremis in his blood and this armor is what INSPIRED the movie’s Armor (think Extremis with the circular chestpiece instead of the Triangular… up until Iron Man 2 of course) they didn’t consider the Modular armor coz quite frankly it’s not movie material…
And here’s another thing… In the “World’s most wanted” Storyline where Stark bit by bit erases his mind and has to rely on wearing previous armors (an interesting plot since it has him wearing older and older armors as his minds keep getting wiped out) I just get a kick out of thinking (And this didn’t happen of course)…

Scrawny? Hardly. More like practical and really, the Extremis looks better and more realistic than the modular armor.

Iron Man NO LONGER wears the Extremis Armor… Post Siege he wears this sleeker armor now (dunno what it’s called) that debut in Invincible Iron Man 25 and Avengers 1.
The Modular Armor inspired the media of it’s time just as the Extremis does the same… except (Iron Man 1 Movie > 90’s Cartoon) and a possibility of MvC3 being better than MvC2 LOL
