Am I the only one who liked MVC1 more than MVC2

I haven’t played either game in ages, but that linked video seemed like a much better gameplay balance than MVC2. Plus, the presentation is way better.

I thought it looked awesome, I wish I could play it.

Yeah, bigger by…one character.

OMG TOTALLY BALANCED!!111!!uno!

Basically this.

Not to say I didn’t like MvC2, but I saw 1 as the last game they cared about in fighting and presentation. A whole wealth of locals and themes from two big universes, and somehow generic, barely appealing stages and gonna take you for a ride. I thought Capcom had lost it’s fucking mind when I booted MvC2 up for the first time, and was glad I never let part 1 go. I can only hope 3 gets some decent consideration in all departments, not just gameplay (balancing).

yeah… but mvc1 had 21 characters…while mvc2 had 56. so yeah…

Pretty much this, MvC1 had the better presentation, but MvC2 just feels more solid where it matters - gameplay.

MvC1 also has the advantage of being supported by GGPO. Someday they’ll figure out NAOMI emulation…someday

Yeah, that’s pretty much why I also loved 1 more than 2.

I guess you haven’t played the game, then.

So yeah, what?

You do know that as dumb as the gap can be in 2, the gap between the tops, mids and lows in 1 is even larger? 1 is more broken than 2 is, and you see tops get whored even more. Again, you’d know this if you actually played it or even watched it.

Yeah, the music and stages are better than 2. So what? Start playing the game and that attitude will rub off real quick.

Both are good in their own right, but I can’t think of a game I played more than MVC2 in my youth. I loved all types of fighting games, and MVC2 was very easy to get into based on it’s patterns/roster/visuals. Although they are two games in the same series, they also are two entirely different beasts. I have a hard time comparing them.

I suppose if I had to choose one I would choose MVC2 for it’s sheer roster and combo potential. I loved making bizaare teams and seeing what kind of combo setups and infinities one could perform.

I guess TVC would be a better representation to follow-up MVC1 despite the vs. gameplay being dumbed down for wii audiences.

Oh yes. Gold War Machine/Strider lockdown. Thrilling.

2 still feels like mugen.

This thread is troll city. MvC1 is ass, just as unbalanced and ten times more broken than MvC2.

Yes, Yes you are.

ass and broken piece of shit aplies to anything with marvel in it, times 10. just how many jpn tournaments do you see with anything marvel in it? exactly, cause its shit.

Since when did Japan dictate what games other countries can play? Besides, the Japanese still take boring shit like Pokemon seriously.

fuck you, pokemon is amazing

???

Spoiler

I made a dumb statement to show how stupid MC187’s comment was, but it seems you took the troll bullet for him

I love Pokemon really, no homo.

Times like this I wish a-chan posted regularly again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in the majority on this one in that I think MvC2 is the better game, but this thread could use some input from someone who actually understands MvC1 on a competitive level and still enjoys it.

The old versus series music was fucking amazing. 2 had some pretty catchy tunes but overall I think anyone would agree that they should bring back the old themes for MvC3. Shit like the old Gambit theme, Capcom’s theme, Captain America, god damn, those tunes were ballin.

lol please re: a-chan. This is a pointless thread because maybe 1% of SRK was around back then and understands how this game works in its real element, the actual arcade version (not emulated). Most of what I see here are assumptions based on what cheaters do in GGPO or elsewhere, save for the MagMan vs JWong match. That version may as well be a different game.

If anyone wants to play and see some real mvc1, come see us @ Evo at the XvsSF byoc area.

MvC1 was better in the fun level, but MvC2 was better in the competetive level. Both games are better than the other in some way. Just try to compare a non-competetive fighting game to a competetive one.
