Alternative to .110 quick disconnect?

I can’t seem to find .110 QD’s locally and my trial-and-error wiring has messed up the extras I ordered. What are some alternatives that I can get from radio shack or a car stereo shop that are known to work?

Solder the wires on.

Auto parts stores typically carry .110 QD, though they tend to be grossly expensive. You can, I suppose, use oversized ones…

Something to consider is that you’ll be pretty pissed if one of the connections goes bad while you’re playing.

You can use .187 QD’s and use pliers to squeeze them down really hard. Not the best solution of course but worked for me.

Solder them right on

Do you have a credit card? Order the 0.110 QD’s online… Down the line, you WILL regret soldering lines to the buttons if you have to change a button or microswitch. Slipping off a QD is easier than desoldering electrical lines.

Yes, QD’s are grossly overpriced in stores… That’s why you buy them online! Try Amazon or even eBay.com… I got my last 100-pack of nice insulated 0.110 QD’s (looks like I will have to buy a new pack soon…!) from eBay.com… There are plenty of places doing closeouts on hardware that charge minimal for large lots of parts. Look up online and you can buy practically any style of 0.110 QD you like and pay less than in-store.

If you don’t have a credit card, do a bank cash transfer or get a postal money order/money order from Wal-Mart. IF you’re buying off Amazon.com, you can get a cash card for Amazon.com at practically any major chain store and add that cash value to your Amazon.com account. As you long as you have money in your account from that card, it will not draw any cash from a debit or check card…

Honestly, soldering is a pain in the ass and 0.187 QD’s – although they will work in a pinch-- tend to be oversized and slip off button terminals which are sized for 0.110 QD’s.

Perfect response to the OP’s question right there. QDs can always be purchase online, you can always try Paraidse Arcade, Focus Attack, akihabara shop, Arcadeshop.de and other online venders that sell the correct sized QDs for cheap.

Avoid going to Radio Shack for anything if you have to, as Radio shack is kind of pricy and does not have a good stock for electronics.
I only stop Radio Shack for components, pref board, soldering iron tips and wire. Online alternatives for Radio Shack include element 14, Spark Fun and if your willing to dig though online catalogs digikey and mouser

Strip the ends of wires.

Thread wires through slots in the prongs on the buttons.

This is how my stick is set up after my QDs started to slip off and do other annoying things. I have had zero issue since.

Online would be the best as mentioned plenty of times above

Although if you REALLY don’t want to, a solderless solution for your DC method would be to string a stripped wire through the little hole, wrap around, and string it through again. This by no means is a long term solution though.

I have no problem ordering online…I will do that but I am working on some mods now, and don’t want to wait until more qd’s arrive. I can switch to them later. So I wanted an option for what is available locally. Thanks for the input!

Way I see it is like this, it is better to wait for the right part or tool than to rush though without it.
I never been a fan of the wire-loop method that cloud chaser suggested, hence I didn’t suggest it myself. Too easy for the loop of wire to break loose.

My suggestion is to suck it up and pay the high cost of auto part store .110 QDs, or wait for the shipping.

Update: I ran across the street from my job and checked a local car stereo store and they have .110 qd’s for 10 cents each. I bought 30 of them. So that’s enough for now

I do this when i am lazy
Cool trick for daisy chain ground. Use Kynar, and run it through the little holes in one long string. Apply liquid flux and quickly whet with solder.

Nitewalker sells 100 qdcs for $6 just a heads up
