I ran into 4 different Vipers today in champ mode - and three of them were in a row. It blew my mind.

I play high tier because… their high tier? Not really into the whole SF4 story… wait Streetfighter has a story worth learning?
If I want story or cool something off the wall I play SNK / Arcsys.

I main Sagat, and don’t really run into other Sagats very often, online or locally. I did have some pretty good back-and-forth mirror matches with someone in a Player Match today though. It was nice seeing another Sagat that actually knew combos instead of just Tiger Shot/Tiger Uppercut the whole match. I do see Balrog quite often (behind Ken/Ryu) though.
I started championship play today, so I’m still trying to work my way out of the G3 ghetto. Faced 11 Kens, 4 Ryus, 3 Sagats, 3 Akumas, 3 Goukens, 2 Zangiefs, 2 Cammys, a Guile, a Blanka, a Rufus, a Boxer, a Dictator, an Abel, a Claw, a Dan and a Fuerte.
At least I got a crash course in dominating flowchart Ken. Still get smacked down by pretty much everybody else, though. You mean player Abel doesn’t spam that punishable roll over and over again like CPU Abel?!
I played 2 Karens within a hour of each other today in champ mode up around G3-A.
I honestly think they were the first karens I’ve ever played against outside of messing around with my buds.
They both weren’t bad either.:tup:

I also play Zangief for fun. Seriously, he’s fun as hell, especially if you bait your opponent by emptyjumping into Ultra. YESH!!!
And how do you guys not see that many Akumas? I have never, NEVER face an Akuma, whos strategy isn’t to just go back while throwing fireballs. I yearn to find the day, but until then, Akuma is by far the most boring character to fight against, and its a tragedy theres so many.

Sagat is boring IMO but hes the only part of Shadaloo i would deem so…maybe turtle Balrogs as well.
I main Blanka, and it’s once in a blue moon that I face another, and I play Champ Mode 100% of the time. The majority still consists of Shotos. I got my ass handed to me by a Gen player because it was the first time I’ve ever played one, LOL.
Who cares? Play to win.
I’ve found it easier and easier to predict what people will do when they play the popular characters. Sometimes I wonder if anyone even knows what Rose or El Fuerte can even do. 
i play almost exclusively in championship mode and recently hit 16000 gp.
out of my 1900 or so fights, the fighter i see the most is ryu.
that really makes sense.
he is the flagship character and he is good.
i see a good mix of the other characters.
here is my rough estimate of the character popularity i have witnessed:
most common : ryu (it is probably going to be ryu when i am waiting to see who you picked.)
common : sagat, blanka, boxer, zangief
less common : ken, akuma, guile, honda, chun li, dictator, claw, abel
rare : dhalsim, rufus, cammy, viper, seth, fuerte, gen, gouken, sakura
the yeti : rose, dan, fei long
i dont have a problem with it.
this is a great game with a lot of variables even if you only fight ryu.
Since I got into G1 its like there’s a rule against using other characters that are not Sagat, Ryu Zangiefs or Akuma. It gets really boring at times fighting the same characters over and over.
I’ve moved to player matches now… where there’s nothing at stake (as if there is in C-mode :rollseyes:). Some people are more willing to diversify there, but you still get the occasional dolt who ragequits.

Ken isn’t boring when played well. And saying scrubby Kens are boring isn’t really fair, seeing as how pretty much every scrub will offer a boring fight.

Sadly this has always been the way in fighters people go with the popular characters because they think its the only way to win
Every time i sit and watch vids I am inspired to try new characters such as El Fuerte or even gasp Rose
Sadly then I go out and try them and run into nothing but sagats and ryus and I just get sick of being fireball spammed from across the map and I go back to Akuma/Gouki
Now yes I know someone is going to point out how I am complaining about the overuse of characters while saying I use Akuma but I enjoy Akuma and I like to actually rushdown people with him theres risk involved and I happen to be pretty good at reliably pulling off demons which I must admit makes me giggle every time I do it cause people think its so hard to pull off
