I guess I’m pretty boring. I main Ken, I’ve always mained Ken in SF. In original SF I would put in two quarters and beat on Ryu so that I could play as Ken.

That’s the standard mass produced version of whatever special edition you’re showing. Not everybody’s gonna pay 40$ more for the same game with a little toy and some paper to throw away.
Not only are charges too long in 4 but can’t be partitioned. Guile would be scary as shit if he could be played like Remy and that’s saying something…because Remy fucking sucked.
Maining a popular character doesn’t have too mean that you are part of the problem. If I main Balrog and play him 40% of all matches you could still play the other 60% with a mix of low-tier characters like Rose, Dan and Sakura. I am not saying that is what he is doing but that is the way I would do it.
Now, I would like to see more real stats on the least popular characters so I know which characters I need to play.** Who is at the bottom of all your lists in the online matches; say the bottom three?**

I am just starting out playing SFIV and I just wanted to know which the least popular characters were online. I thought I’d do everyone a favour by playing the least popular characters. So, I wanted to ask that question while knowing I would get crap if I (a newbie) started a thread about popular/unpopular characters so I spent quite some time digging up this thread instead. I am into recycling.
So well, I understand that Ken, Ryu, Sagat are the most popular ones and I have a rough idea about which ones might be less popular. I just wanted to know the official stats on your lists.
The characters I almost never see online:
El Fuerte
Viper
Sakura
Gen
Dhalsim
Fei Long
Basically, its the list of characters that are in many ways, the hardest to master.
I play loads of Sakuras and Dhalsim’s it’s not even funny.
I rarely see Rose online myself. It’s a rarity for me to see Gen, I’ll agree there and I generally go “I hope this person’s good.” because I love to be impressed by someone using Gen.
I’ve seen a rise in Viper’s to be honest, seems people are preparing for SSFIV.

Amazing. I haven’t seen a sakura in months, same for Sim.
I play rose constantly online. Actually, I probably use her online more than my mains. I’m going to play the SHIT out of her in Super.
By the looks of the list posted up of things she can do in Super, she looks bloody insane XD.
But yeah, I play a lot of Sims. Though I’ve yet to find ones that do anything other than Teleport > Cannon punch, Rinse-repeat. I’d be happy about it if they did something different since he does have a lot of potential to do a lot more.
Sakura players can be just as irritating. Because I really enjoy getting my ass handed to me by someone using a character really well.
Chun v Sakura is one of my favorite matchups in the game. That match is how SF should be played: Fast, lots of rushdown, whoever gets the momentum can actually keep it if they perform well, and the whole match can turn on a dime.
My buddy LilJ and I have HUGE Sakura vs Chun battles, last time, we had like 5 people just watching the rumble, cheering and shit. It was brilliant.

I’d say the rarest by far are: El Fuerte, Fei Long, Rose, and Gen. Slightly less so: Viper.
Bear in mind they are not played widely for a reason, they are hard to play as/ hard to master.
So, people are playing Dan?
Since I haven’t played the game online yet (I will soon. I will probably get a wireless network adapter in the mail this week) I am not familiar with what the scene looks like. But I have seen people publishing statistics over the characters that they have played against. So, am I right in that you generate a list with characters you have met online? Right now I can only see lists over the characters I have played in arcade mode. If you generate lists, it surely could not just be speculation about who is the least common characters?
I face plenty of Dans to be honest, mostly clowns who taunt all the time but end up getting FFF’ed into whatever lol.
I started to play Dan online, as trying to win consistantly with Fei is a nightmare, then again I think Im getting far too fustrated with SFIV in general :crybaby:
I really am getting fed up with the matchups lately:
Blanka gets FAR too much bounce back on his rolls, unless your a character who can FB or DP and connect after blocking one you in for a roll spam fest.
Dictator is becoming a headwreck due to matches now being a cr.LK into scissor kick bore fest.
Plus that standing HK is stupidly strong.
Boxer is a nightmare recenty with nothing to expect bar cr.LP repeat untill one connects = cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.LK , Headbut… Ultra … urrg really why is that headbutt so over powered.
Ryu is fine untill they get Ultra meter, where suddenly any trade, DP or mistake is instant life gone.
Cammys hitboxes are a mess at the best of times… seriously random whiffs all over the place.
Chun li has seen a sudden increase of neutral jumping HK online… and that hitbox is huge.
And then poor old Claw, I have great respect for Claw players, but chasing that dude around the screen has got to be the most infuriating thing ever.
So after that little rant… I recommend Dan… because if you get annoyed as much as I have the past while at least you lose while annoying the other player :pleased:
EDIT: I guess my point if I even had one was that getting annoyed with characters isnt due to where they are on the teir list… heck I LIKE fighting Sagat just because my friend uses Sagat so I know the ins and outs and what works doesnt etc… I get more annoyed when annying traits spread like wildfire due to youtube, playing online etc… Gens MK-Hands is a good example, great tool for Gen but it spread so fast that pretty quicky we had terrible Gen players winning online with nothing but Mk-Hand spam. Just go for the character you like.
