Alright, I finally understand why people get angry when a character is so popular

I’m more amazed at how characters like Vega and Guile went through testing.

Did the developers not use jumps and find out the problem 2 seconds later? It’s painfully obvious that Vega has no answer to jump-in spam, yet they had the gall to actually REMOVE the invulnerability frames for his Scarlet Terror. That proves how much testing he went through. Also, slide glitch and D/F + MK. The latter is the one that makes you go “WTF?”. It’s like they never even touched the move during testing.

Guile’s Flashkick was KNOWN for being the very best AA. A big part of his game was Sonic Boom zoning and baiting the opponent to jump-in, at which point he would unleash the Flashkick. Now, it gets cleanly beaten by some jump-ins, which is WTF? FK is no good now unless it’s for reversal or combo. Any person that has played SF for a couple days would wise up and start spamming jump-ins / cross-ups on these characters.

I don’t like to say this, but charge characters are getting old. It’s a lame design concept, a physical restraint you can’t do anything about handicapping your character… just not viable anymore. These charge commands also coincendtally make landing Vega’s and Guile’s Ultras (which are not spectacular) even harder.

I actually don’t see how SF would be broken if charge times were taken out and replaced with actually commands like DP and FB.

Also, you can reverse out of block strings with DP characters, but not with charge characters. You can’t “spam” a charge the same way as a DP.

u dudes want to try maining rufus and playing 15 stand offish french ryus in a row spamming consecutive lp dps all day

aneurysm inducing

Funny how often the people complaining about “overplayed” characters are direct contributors to the problem they perceive.

hey man its cool, im sure if they nerfed boxer into the ground he would still be playing him like a trooper!

hey, i found my old srk account!

I’ve wondered this FOREVER. It’s like 5 developers get together in the board room and say this: " We’ve just announced SF4 and we’re introducing a new focus attack system. NO Akira, it’s not like the “parry” before you get the public excited. How can we make this system cool for only 5 or 6 people? " Akira raises his hand and says: “Wouldn’t it be cool if Ryu could like shoot you with energy after the Dragon Punch???:lovin:” One sensible designer says: “Dude that is so stupid! Why would anyone give him such a great…” Then he gets cut off by the boss, who says: “No, No , NO! Let’s hear more of this.:lovin:” And while our sensible designer is saying: “What about Vega and Guile? They have no reliable AA? What about the console exclusives? You can’t possibly think they’re competitive!!” But alas, he is unheard. Akira has the other developers delusioned about such things as: “Sagats gonna be so awesome in this game! Why shouldn’t he be able to combo into EVERYTHING!! This new system is gonna be GREAT!!:lovin:” There is only one thing for our sensible design to do. He must resign from Capcom and go work with SNK. Maybe his suggestions will be heard there…

When people pick Zangief, I quietly sing to myself the following…

I was sitting on my couch, late one night.
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight,
for Zangief, began to rise, and suddenly, to my unsuprise…

He did the mash!
He did the lariat mash!!
He did the mash!
It was a chip damage smash!!
He did the mash!
It caught on in a flash!!
He did the mash!
He did the lariat mash!!

lol!

It’s real simple folks. Here’s what I do for my online experience.

On Live I avoid the great majority of Ryu’s I play through the feedback system.

The reason I give is “lacks skill”. The feedback doesn’t show up in their profile at all. It’s completely transparent and harmless. It doesn’t even mean you’ll never play them again. It just decreases the chances of playing them again. Let’s face it there’s plenty more Ryu’s to go around.

I don’t just limit this technique to certain characters. I use it for connection strength too. I play a 2 bar match once and then avoid that person. I take requests from arcade so I hate being bothered over and over for unplayable conditions.

Uh…

And still no Honda love!

Are you sure? I would have thought it pinged up on their “players avoided” stats, but if they don’t good idea. Either way I do the opposite, I nearly always up the rep of anyone who chooses anyone other than “the usual” and when it comes to anyone who picks Dan/Gen/Viper/Fei/Really rare choices I accompany that with a message that they rock.

The whole ‘player avoided’ thing is bullcrap. The entire lobby system for SF4 negates it. If you’re in your lobby waiting for a fight and the dude you ‘avoided’ sees your name he can still join.
It only works in games with matchmaking like Gears of War 2 and Halo 3.

Yup, on XBL if you put someone on player avoided status, it damages their rep (shown by the stars under their gamertag in their profile).

So…its an OK mechanism, but its not transparent, not fully.

Anyone know how much it damages rep by, exactly? I’ve had plenty of “player avoided” negs after beating people, but I’m still at five stars.
And yeah, Death By Nines, it is kind of useless as far as SFIV is concerned…I doubt we’ll see any feature implemented that’ll make it worthwhile, though.

I think its more of a ratio.

For example, if you have played thousands of matches but only had maybe a hundred people set you to “avoid”, it probably won’t be a measurable drop…you probably won’t go from 5 stars to 4.

When I first started on XBL, I got into Halo online for a bit, before I realized how much it sucks ass. My rep instantly dropped from 5 bars to 1 from dickhead 13 year olds leaving me bad feedback just because they lost.

After a LOT of playing various other games, my rep climbed back to 5 stars.

From wikipedia:
**
Reputation rating which is voted on by other players who decide to either prefer or avoid another player. The reputation defaults to 100%(Five stars) over time after one player has preferred you.**

facepalm

charge characters are actually NEWER than motion characters, let me just put that out there.

2nd of all, did you check out who was good in super turbo? more than half was charge characters

Ryu
Sagat

Bison
Vega
Balrog
Guile (who was god tier in WW)

see? all good characters in super turbo, and they were mostly what? CHARGE characters. this was before bison had his DP teleport too.

now, who’s made the generational leap in one piece? Balrog and Bison. Vega and Guile have actually been sean nerfed piece by piece, game by game. and how come honda wasn’t good in Super turbo but is better now? In third strike, there weren’t a lot of charge characters, but Urien is a pretty great guy. eh has a fucking WALL he throws at you, AND juggles you to death (with charge moves), and doesn’t afraid of anything.

why not change charge moves to QCF moves? well, think of it this way, guile would probably go up a tier or 2, because shotos need to be a certain distance away to control space, guile can just keep sonic booming one after another, and move closer, then he can just dp as soon as you jump, and not react to that perfect moment. space control wouldn’t be a problem, because the whole stage in under control.

still though, capcom of japan screwed up what were some of the best characters tier wise (i mean, look at cvs2, guile and vega werent top tier, but they were damn good and usable)

i laugh every time.

Charging isn’t that much of a problem anyway. The problem isn’t with the charging, it’s the fact that they keep weakening these characters game by game. I mean, Vega’s walldives have such little charge time that it’s already practically a motion move.
The problem is that the tools themselves aren’t that good. Why have the tools if they’re not useful?
I remember reading some Cammy frame data, and I noticed Cammy’s close HK is unsafe on HIT. IIRC, it doesn’t do as much damage as far, and has slower startup too. what is that I don’t even
