Alpha Generations is a month away - Any Info?

Is Ryu’s voice the same guy from all the other dubs?

oh my god. this was the worst SF anime to date.

Got it today, will watch it tonight hopefully.

@Sano:
I don’t think it’s a spoiler that Akum/Gouki is Ryu’s father…I don’t think many fans will go 'w00t WTFOMGBBQ111coughcoughlesbiansarehotcoughcough’
Still I respect your reply in post #210 and I think you sum up just about everything one wishes to know about the anime.

This movie is…not as enjoyable as even the Alpha movie was. Every time Ryu or Gouki got really pissed and got lines all over their faces, I thought they were gonna transform into werewolves or something. It looked like they were growing muzzles…especially Gouki.

Meh, my expectations were so low it didn’t turn out to be complete gutter trash, but if Ryu and Gouki can get an anime all to themselves some of the other characters deserve similar treatment. Best part of it to me was the twist at the end(mentioned in teh spoliers above).

Umm… RYU’S VOICE, anyone??

Re: Spoiler -

It’s not so much a spoiler as there’s a few different ways to interpret the movie, it’s not flat out stated. But it’s the conclusion I drew. Even the seiyuus seemed confused about it in the interview lol! But it is the surprise at the bottom of the cereal box, I think it’s just a bit early to get into without a spoiler notation, but that’s just me.

Y2Dane - We don’t watch dubs! Seriously I’ll go check though. Gouki’s(Akuma’s) American voice actor is different from before, and much much worse.

;_; Akuma’s voice in the first Alpha movie was one of the few dub voices I liked in it. Even met the guy at a Con once, very cool. He also did an excellent job with Hyuuga in the Eva movie dubs. Shame to see him out (even though I wasn’t gonna watch the dub anyways).

Damn this, I had a long post and now it’s gone.

Anyway, I gave it 3/5. The DVD features sucked with bad subtitles (Hanouken, Shoryu Repetoire) the movie referred to Ryu and Ryuno in the credits (most I assume didn’t watch the credits cause it wasn’t a great movie to let the credits run).

Art style sucked, most voices sucked (Ryu was good in places, Sakura and old man were good). Gouki sucked all round.

New characters sucked.

I’m only giving it 3/5 cause I’m generous. It’s not worth 15 at all. Not even for the die hard SF fan. Was totally over hyped during its making and was not worth the 4 years waiting at all. 6 months, but NOT 4 years.

Manga need to sort out their “take” on SF. I don’t think many people really care for someone else’s take on things. I’d much rather something that sticks closely to the games, like SFIIAM did than something like Generations.

I preferred Alpha’s story by a long shot as well. That was decent. Not original, but still decent and had some exceptional animation used to relate to the Alpha games.

I’m not as disappointed as I would have been thanks to so many people saying this was crap, so it ended up being a little better than what I finally expected.

Oh, I did like how they put Sky in the Sky, It was corny, but worked very well.

You paid 15 for it? Where did you get it from?

I received mine this morning through Play.com at 8.99. I’m disappointed that the movie had no connection to the last Alpha movie, although it’s stated as a prequel by Manga. I much prefer Alpha to this one as well, animation and storywise (although both touched on Ryu vs. Dark Hadou), if only Alpha didn’t introduce all those unneccessary new characters.

Seriously, that film was really crap. The best part of the whole thing was the intro scene with Gouki and Goutetsu. I really did not like the animation either, why couldn’t it be like the original SF2 animation wise?

Also… 45 minutes, was another lame issue to mention. Overall I was greatly dissapointed, the only worthwhile Capcom/SF2 related thing to come out these days are the Udon comics. Everything else [CFJ, this movie etc] is a waste of time and money.

Thanks Capcom.

Alpha’s introduction to Wallace was actually alright. I didn’t mind him. Just added that sense of normal people as well. Everyone else can fight really well, he’s just your bog standard polic officer. Albeit, a little weird (bet he doesn’t even like doughnuts, that’s how weird he is).

My brother got AG from HMV. On their website it was like £10, but the shop had it for £15. I’m pretty sure he got 10% off, but still, it’s not exactly a friendly price for bland movie that feels like an extended trailer (think Venice Film Festival version of Advent Children only nowhere near as good. And I mean light years behind).

It just didn’t feel like a movie. It was also like some quick recap video (this time think FFVII recap on Advent Children DVD).

It’s not the worst thing I’ve seen, but it’s far from the best and quite far from average. I just felt this was an unecessary approach by Manga. The best bit about this movie by far was Alvin Lee’s Ryu on the promo poster and cover. Seriously, that’s what I felt was the best thing about this movie’s production.

Manga need to learn that approaching a licensed product by paying close attention to official story lines is what usually works. Sure, go off here and there lie Udon do with the comics, but with them it still sounds cool and not so uncomfortable.

It’s no use for the producer and others to be able to pronounce Japanese names correctly (the producer had very good pronounciation of Japanese names I felt) when the movie can’t be done decently. SF requires solid animation. Something like what KOF is looking like is what I originally expected. Or at least something very close to the original Alpha anime.

Oh well, mistakes happen, lets hope they sort it out and bring us quality stuff like SFIIAM now. God, I love that movie. Ryu vs Fei Long is one of my most favourable fights. So, from a quote from that fight, let’s hope Manga can say:

“No! It’s not over yet! You haven’t seen anything! Get Ready!”

and provide us with some super cool SF action next time!

I think the biggest hump a studio needs to get over when tackling an SF anime is that anything they attempt at this point in SF’s lifecycle(over 15 years now)should be primarily a FAN SERVICE, and not the artsy drivel that usually gets produced. SF hasn’t really picked up many new fans over the last several years, and they’re not going to bring in more with the lack of new games.

The original animated movie admittedly had its flaws(many seemed to downright hate it)but it still ranks first among fans…because it was more or less a fan service. Every character from the game was in it(sans Gouki’s little cameo), and even if they didn’t have a prominent role they at least had an onscreen fight. The Alpha animes stink to me because there might as well not be anybody in them except Ryu, Ken and Sakura.

If they insist on continuing to make animes for the franchise they better make at least one based on SF3. Waiting 4 years to see barely more than a standard episode’s worth of a Ryu and Gouki fight just doesn’t cut it.

Here’s how I’d rank it. (note: this is for the dubbed American versions).

  1. sf2 V (Good voice acting and story. Animation is not as good as others, but that’s to be expected since this is a television series and not a movie. Some scenes were ridiculously long (Ryu firing off hadoken) and suffered from Dragon ball syndrome. Music was the best in this one and really fit the mood. Favorite match: Ryu vs Guile)

  2. sf2 animated movie (excellent fight scenes. Good animation. Story could use a little work. Didn’t really like the voicework done by Ryu. Favorite Match: Ryu vs Fei Long)

  3. sf alpha (Story needs more work. Convoluted. Characters in fight scenes seem… floaty. Film was way too long. Appearances by Vega, Dan, Sodom, Guy, Rolento, Birdie were a nice touch. Favorite Match: None. Too floaty.)

  4. sf alpha generations (Pure Garbage. Favorite Match: None.)

I quite enjoyed Ryu’s voice in SFIIAM. Come on, it’s funny when Fei Long mentions the Shadowlaw and Ryu’s like:

“What’s…The Shadowlaw?”

“You don’t know?”

“Nope”

Always makes me smile.

Ken’s was perfect! I was just so shocked when I heard his voice in AG. I was like…he sounds so…shit…what’s going on!?

The Alpha anime does seem like it’s just a Ryu, Ken, Sakura outing, but I still enjoyed it style. It was presented superbly with it’s slick style. It just felt Alpha all over. Of course, if they fleshed it out more like SFII to add some more characters with more on screen time, it would’ve easily surpassed SFII. Think about Rolento could’ve been portrayed? It would’ve been seriously good.

THE DUB LITERALLY SUCKS…What the hell, why didn’t the bring back the cast list from the previous movie. They could’ve easily done that. And is this a movie or a sequel, 'cause making it a prequel doesn’t work but making it a sequel works fine (they already met sakura) if sakura wasn’t there then, YES it will be a prequel…

The movie, I didn’t even know that was Ryu, I was like “oh, another new character” “omg, ryu…”

And GOUKI and GOUKEN? CAPCOM, WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU…you change it one way and you do it the other way…Akuma and Akuen would’ve been fine or just Akuma/Gouken.

Oh, and I kinda don’t understand the who’s Ryu’s father…It can’t be gouki…yet I’m thinking it is, or rather his ‘brother’ gouken. (Since they ‘are’ brothers right?)

Another thing to add…AKUMA’S VOICE SUCKEDDDD, he was like really just bad…everyone else was bearable, but akuma’s was just plain downright bad. Whoever voiced him should be shot.

So I’ll rewatch the movie in japanese soon, just because I know the japanaese care about their voice acting work, whereas the americans just dub it for the money.

You know what, I’m going to say that Gouken and Ryu are brothers. Why? Because the interview said it…of course, the word “sibling” in the intverview might have been wrong and actually meant “father” (though I don’t remember hearing (O)ta-san). After all, they did royally screw up Hadouken and Shoryu Reppa. I’m never gonna forget that Shoryu Repetoire in place for Shoryu Reppa. That is just too funny and to damn stupid on their behalf. Lets all call Ryu Ryuno from now on as well…

When was Shoryu-Reppa ever used? I saw Ryu doing the Shoryuken but Ken got sod all fight, in fact we didn’t see a bit of the fight with the old geezer did we? Atleast unlike SFIIV they could decide whether to use English or Japanese names with the moves.

I agree the intro was the best scene. I liked the history, but the fight between Ryu and Gouki were too short. Gouken and Goutetsu were very wrongly portrayed in appearence according to official and Udon artwork. The animation wasn’t all that great. The dubs were horrendous compared to the previous anime’s. The whole anime needed to be expanded upon and pretty greatly revised really.

By the way, did anybody else mistake Gouki (Akuma) for Evil Ryu on the DVD case at first?

In the seiyu interviews. The voice actor for Ken says something about how he likes Ken and doing the Shoryu Reppa in the game or something. I really don’t know whats worse, Ryuno, Hanouken or Shoryu Repetoire.

Something tells me even Udon are sitting back and laughing how badly done this was.
