Alpha 3: Q & A

dhalsim’s air throw connects on dive kicks and hop kicks, so it’s the best one i’ve ever seen in A3

well as far as i know most of em do :S

i think v-karin her air throw is cool, because if you tech it nothing will change except the damage, you just get dropped to the floor just like you would have normally, leaving you right next to v-karin for a v-ism OTG.

Fastest whiff throw would be Charlie’s IIRC. One that builds the most meter is probably juni whiff 360, since you can whiff and/or cancel normals in between them.

Yeah, Karin deserves a mention too…

I think the “hitbox” for rose’s air throw actually extends above and/or below her as well, but I’m not sure. Definitely not as crappy as it looked at first. Still not good…

I think Ryu should at least get some sort of nod for the crossup section. His crossup is nothing really special, but he gets really stupid combos from it, that do a lot of dizzy.

Best super probably goes to Rog or A-Bison (can’t be crossed up or VCd through, somewhat hard to punish, good damage) or X-Rose.

Does anybody have any idea why R. Mika’s air throw sometimes doesn’t do damage?

Can you also mention about Gen regular and super airthrow? I don’t know much about it.

I just love Sagats SK crossup, it looks so ridiculously funny  having this 300 pound guy just tapping you with the back of his ankle as he sails gracefully over your head, also a cool looking way to combo into the crouching SP into the Tiger Kick super.

i know this is a weird/awkward question. i was playing sfa3 and i wanted to do ryu’s crouch cancel infinite thingy. does any1 know the notation for it? notation for any other characters as well? sorry im new to sf =. been playing about a year now…

mondu: i have no idea, but i will say i’ve noticed it. usually the PP airthrow on Charlie.

anyone know if Xerocrew is still working on that AAA3 translation…?

whatup: if you are really new to the game, crouch cancels should be like one of the last things to learn(ryu infinite is a crouch cancel combo) as it is an advanced tactic. you have to know the engine pretty well to know how, when, and where you can do it. its not easy at all if you dont know what youre looking for

And crouch cancels arent exactly necessary to do well…yes they can help you a lot, but they arent necessary. Better to work on the comboing/footsie wars at first.

hmmmm im quite a fan of Ken’s x-ism super…its is really quite pleasing.

Hey Sabre not that long ago I asked some questions about Akuma’s unblockable and I have another question…

When I knock the opponent down and then activate VC1, I do the fierce red fireball into fierce demon flip kick and I find that when I do this on certain characters the properties are different. For example, on characters like sagat, cody, charlie and gen the shadow from the demon flip kick is SLIGHTLY delayed… where’s on characters like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, cammy and blanka the shadow from the demon flip kick hits straight after the actual hit; there isn’t a slight delay in the shadow.
I was wondering if this effects the unblockable in any way or doesn’t this matter?

I hope you understand what I mean

well you gotta realize those are larger character sprites you are mentioning that have a delay, while smaller characters have less delay. reason could be is since those characters are larger, you are hitting the button for the flip kick earlier than you would on a shorter character, so the kick has been executed higher in the air, so when the large character goes to crouch, takes a little longer than normal for the shadow to hit since it was executed so high in the air… thats my observation. im sure thats what it is

small question…

  • during a crouch cancel, is the character allowed to go all the way down into crouching position or must that particular frame never be reached?
  • if it is ever reached, how long (in frames or seconds maybe) can you stay in this position before a neutral state comes around?

(i don’t have trouble crouch cancelling in normal play, but i make a point never to go into that single crouching frame (land, “about to crouch” frame, jump again)…)

Once you reach full crouching state your basically neutral again, dunno about frame data, I just make sure im not fully crouching and it works, basically you dont watch what frame the character is in, you just learn the timing, and eventually you get it.

mm… that’s what i thought, but in Nibor’s Cody notes (the kawaks replays) Cody goes into the crouching frame a lot. probably just has to be a really small timeframe…

there are a few frames between standing and crouching that look almost like a character is crouching but isn’t fully crouching. If a character is fully crouching then they are in a neutral state and the opponent can flip. You can play with crouch cancels with stuff like quickly going from joystick position neutral to down over and over without hitting neutral state and the opponent wont be able to flip, or else you can do a quick ‘crouch’ and then start walking one way or another and it doesn’t count as neutral so the opponent can’t flip. This can be useful for timing issues and can create some cool/useful combos (there are some useful CC VC2 2p side combos using this). I found cc -> walk pretty tricky at first but i have it ok now even though there aren’t too many uses for it (outside of training mode heh)

I think with Guy you can use crouch-cancel->walk well… I don’t know of any jumping CC combos.

Air-to-air elbow drop, walk, 1234 or normal into special or something.

Hey I’m interested in what people think of R.Mika, I think shes been given a bad rap just because people expected her to be a female Dan, but I think shes got more potential than that, does anyone use her?? I’ve never seen anyone use her. But I know that V is her best.

I think the strange properties of her normal moves turned people off her, I was trying to use her the other day and found her standing SP,FK & crouching SK, FK to be really good pokes, you can even use her FK like Charlies Sobat kick since it moves forward at the same time. But since I don’t usually use grappler type characters I’m not sure how shes played.

r. mika is extremely underrated man. she is pretty damn good. characters mostly get bad raps (especially in a3) mainly becuase lack of character exploration. ive seen very mean mika’s and birdies that are killer and no reason they couldnt compete with most of the cast without problems, its like cody, he used to be deemed a pretty weak character. now, even tho the game is dead for the most part, he is bandwagon and used a lot more cuz people realize how good he really is.

r.mika’s pokes are really good. shes got strong poke strings too. i cant go into specifics tho cuz i dont use her. but i have been tempted to use her. she doesnt really classify as a grappler in my book. she doesnt move like a typical grappler(slow as hell usually)… and she dont really play at all like one. she is pretty damn good tho IMO, regardless of what others think
