Alpha 3: Q & A

V-Ryu Jimmy did an AC into Gen’s super in one of his SFA3 Exhibition videos, but it was on a jumping Sim in the corner who had reached the peak of his jump when the AC hit, and when the super hit, Sim was just barely above the ground. So it is possible, but in terms of practicality, I’m not so sure how useful it is.

Thanks TS, I don’t get how anti-air throws work but I keep doing them accidentally already. Its always a bit of a WTF? moment.

Does any shoto dragon punch in this game have invincibility frames under any conditions? I seem to trade a lot less with a late fierce DP by any shoto than with a late strong DP and I would like little things like this explained.

It grabs almost in any case except if:

  • your opponent faints BEFORE you grab them.
  • your opponent was able to hit Gen as he is trying to grab you :frowning:

If you opponent faints after you grab them, the super will still go on, and your opponent will leave the super dizzy

id alos lke to add that usin the lvl one version of the grab is a waste of time, since it has really fucked up arc and almost no invinc frames.:frowning:
hellion: i tlaked about oga a bit in my other post… i try not to use it outside of fireball counter and a getout manuver.

Well, I need a lot of work with Gen, but he’s gotten remarkably… shall I say improved, since I started asking questions here. Thanks all.
I’m going crazy right now trying to connect that super after an AC. Just haven’t the skill yet…

most of the dps for ARK (Dan’s and Sakura’s act a little differently) have a certain degree of invincibility on startup, which they lose fairly quickly (however, you can still hit them with a command throw, if you do it during most of the ground frames of a DP). When in the air, they have a decent amount of priority, but it’s not rare to see them trade with things if the shoto’s feet are off of the ground.

Jab DP can trade or be stopped by things that hit low, like sweeps or regular crouching shorts. Strong and Fierce Dps will stop those attacks though. As far as DPing through projectile supers and fireballs, I never learned the timing for it, but it can be done with all 3 versions of the DP.

I know it’s kinda late to start learning the game but, i was looking through some of the threads and i saw something about crouch canceling. How exactly do you do this.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, i know I’m a scrub:( :frowning: :frowning:

I think I know this one. Someone correct me if I’m speaking crap.

Playing against a human, have you ever had a major counter hit against you in the air and the opponent follows this up with any dragon punch motion anti-air special which combos? It combos because you didn’t air recover.
The next time it happens, if you try to air recover you’ll find you can’t and the anti-air combos again.

You can only air recover when the opponent is in a “neutral state”, i.e. one in which the opponent can move around, attack, block etc. (If you want more on this go find James Chen’s Systems FAQ at gamefaqs or on this site)

Now for the explanation: When you crouch, there is an animation which goes from standing to crouching. This animation appears not to be a neutral state. In my example, the opponent is doing the dragon punch motion as he lands, part of which involves crouching. This crouching avoids neutral states and can go straight into the anti-air special.

Crouch cancelling is used to get extra hits when juggling or during a VC (is this true? I don’t see much V-ism) by avoiding neutral states and a chance for the guy getting hit to escape.
Theres a guy where I play whos entire offense is based around using Cammy/Rose aerial RK to get major counter-hits and follow up with her anti-air special. He has no idea what he is doing is crouch cancelling, but he knows it works and is very frustrating for his opponent because it can’t be escaped.

with V-sak, during her VC, what should i do once i get to the corner? i know i should end it all with (i don’t know the name) her three hop hit thing, but what before that?

any tips on beating a good blanka? what characters would do best against him? i use A-dhalsim and V-sak.

I would have thought that Blanka is an auto loss against Sim, and is probably one if the worst match ups in the game. Sim’s moves just plain beats everything Blanka can do (except for Sim’s standing FK and RK, which Blanka beats easily). Blanka can’t jump on sim. Blanka can’t ball. Blanka can’t poke. Can you give specifics n exactly what you’re having trouble with?

The “I’m a scrub” comment caught my eye, so here’s a few words of wisdom from Temujin and Sabre.

Two points are addressed here:

#1 of all the things to learn in Z3, the last is crouch cancelling. It woulnd’t be exagerrating to say that you’d have mastered several VCs for a couple of characters before you should even even consider learning cc’s.

#2 the need for experience against human comp. While it’s theoretically possible to learn how to do cc’s against the cpu, it’s pretty dang hard. cc’s are mostly “situational” – you bust them out when your opponent does something (eg counter hits). And considering that the CPU hardly plays like a human, you’ll miss out on valuable experience (and maybe end up with a few bad habits). The only time CC’s aren’t situational is if the opponent is not doing anything, in which case you’d have to pop them in the air with a VC (See #1)

Inability to do cc’s doesn’t make one a scrub.

Hey fuck it… if people want to play a3 just to learn the combos that’s fine by me. Its a fun challenge to try to master them.

Besides, they wouldn’t be able to beat me in a combo exhibition anyway, hehe

haha, temujin just wants some more fools to play, regardless for more comp. eh… me too

anyways, cc’s is usually the last thing most fools learn to use in the game.

  • besides Sim, who gives Gief the hardest time? why?

  • could someone break down Nash vs Sagat in detail, and why this is hard for Nash?

  • X-Sagat’s tiger knee motion is qcf,uf+K, while Z and V-Gat’s is dp+K. does the difference in motioning create advantages for either?

  • i’m looking for general V-Sagat tricks, like crossing up with a tiger knee at the last second, that sort of thing. i don’t play CvS2 i’m afraid so feel free to shed some light…

actually i’m not that bad. I have human comp but there’s not a lot here in md. Probably have to go to philly to try to get some extreme comp. My friend Jeff is teaching me and he’s pretty good at it. I’m trying to learn cody and i know how to utalize his cross ups and vc and thanks for the advice.

Hey, I have a question that I really hope hasn’t been answered already.

I play A3 for shits and giggles. A-Gief for boffo splash and super threat (I LUB U GUNTER), and I know the basic plan and shit.

What’s good to do on V-Sak? Her low fierce combined with back+fierce make my life very much not fun.

kthx.

Not much, really, and I was going to reply to glass with “Sak gives Gief trouble because of zoning.” Not even a VC drop through helps, since it’s quite likely that Sak would be too far away for Gief’s VC. I’ve tried Kattobi cancelling through her pokes and it works sometimes, but Z-Gief can’t do it.

what are the characters that give A-dhalsim trouble? i haven’t really tried dhalsim against blanka yet, but i was just wondering. because this guy owned my A-ryu for free and we had a really close match against my A-gief.

is A-dhalsim any good against V-sakura?

thanks.

id say vega gives sim trouble too, sak
i find the nash sagat fight hard beacuse u cant just use normals anymore as much as u can in other fights against sagat with nash, most of the time the range of his pokes and sometimes (c.hp anyone?) beats u out cold. and if u try keep away, its a bad road to go down with sagat as your opponent.

You can empty jump SPD against her c.fierce anti-air. It annoys the shit out of Sak players.
