I really dislike the X-men
It’s not ABOUT the X-Men, though. It’s about Brubaker. The creator, not the characters - that’s what great comics are all made of.
so what issues are brubaker ones?
Read the Books of Doom tpb. Bru + Doom= unstoppable Clockwork.
I already have that. But I pretty much prefer, Doom’s history in Triumph and Torment.
Overrated. His stories take too bloody long. Especially X-Men. A year long storyline about the Shi’ar Empire with second-rate characters? That’s a year wasted. After that a five-part storyline about Morlocks which were defeated in like 3 pages. Morlocks are you kidding me? This guys almost as long-winded as Bendis.
yeah, like I mentioned before, Uncanny X-Men and Deadly Genesis were pretty boring. The rest of Bru stuff is awesome though. Messiah Complex looks very promising thus far though
His first X-Men work is the Deadly Genesis miniseries. Then his first issue of Uncanny is #475. Deadly Genesis is in TPB form and his first 12 issues of Uncanny are in the Rise and Fall of the Shi’ar Empire HC.
The Bru’s X-Men stuff is probably the lowest tier stuff he’s written, other than the random Batbooks here and there that were tie-ins to random Batcrossovers (Officer Down, Murderer/Fugitive). But even so, low tier Bru is still high tier comics. His X-Men is still better than just about any X-Men run not written by Morrison, Vaughan, Casey, Whedon, and Carey.
My brothers, today I finally obtained a full run of Deadenders. Praise to the Bru!
Oh yeah, and CRIMINAAAAAL!!!111 #10 from a couple weeks ago… How hardcore was that?! The series is going on a couple month break but in February it is gonna come back bigger, better, and sexier than ever. GROUP HUG!!

I plan on inducting myself into this most divine of affiliations by picking up cap:omnibus, gotham central, scene of the crime, criminal, and immortal ironfist…hope i can find them in hardcover or tpb’s.
I just found out that my favorite Dark Horse Presents story of all time is like one of Brubaker’s first works. It was a story about two friends and they spy through the window of this house of a family with a midget mom and a normal dad and a hot normal daughter. Later on one of the friends tries to make out with the daughter on a tree limb or something (memory is shaky) and she accidentally falls and dies because he was rough with her or something. I think it was called “an accidental death” or something
I’ve been looking for An Accidental Death for years. That and The Fall are like the only Brubaker comics I haven’t read and don’t have in my collection.
there was some good Concrete and Dr. Giggles goodness in those DHP’s as well
