I expected my opinion to not be a popular one since it was a minority contrary to the status quo.
Ultimately, what I stated wasn’t about me or my values at all. I basically just said “Hey guys, having a thread like this might have some negative consequences…” And instead of discussing that, people took it as a personal attack.
I’m not a prude. I like sex. I study sex a lot and I know more about it socially, psychologically, and physiologically than most people ever will. But it’s an extremely emotional topic for a lot of people. And porn is clearly directed at sex from the male perspective. In essence, it’s extremely divisive in terms of its targeted demographics.
Perhaps I’m just a bit disillusioned. I’ve always loved fighting games and have followed the community without becoming directly involved for a long time now. I decided to change that and become more involved, and the more involved I become the more I feel like I’ve stepped back in time to the days when men ruled the workplace and all workplace norms were defined solely upon what men wanted. That’s why I compared it to a ‘boy’s club’ or ‘men’s locker room’.
But if you guys want the community to grow you’ve got to be a bit flexible and realize how other people who are outside of your typical demographic are going to view you. That’s all I was trying to express. I’m not trying to change, control, or limit you in any way, but just hopefully make you a bit more aware of how others might perceive you.
Yeah, of course you’re new. As a person who’s been on SRK for over a decade, I can tell you that, yes, GD is damn-near a separate entity from the rest of the site. In fact they almost tried to remove it completely because it hogged attention away from everywhere else.
You would be better received if you weren’t so judgmental and full of yourself.
This thread was started in 2005, yet the community holds a steady grow every year.

You should know that the “General Discussion” section in forums is usually a place to talk freely.
This section is never meant to represent the views of the site or the whole community.
If you were to base your opinion of the community based on what’s talked about on GD, you will certainly get a wrong impression.
If you want to learn fighting games you are in the right place, but in the wrong section.
I hope you don’t get discouraged and leave the site. There’s plenty of wonderful people to be met in this community, just give it more time.

Just so you know, there is also a hentai thread where one of the most active posters was a female. If you are new here, the community has grown tons in the past decade or so. This is GD, we talk about non-FG related topics, this is the area of the forums designated for us to do so. We have come together due to similar interests, originally fighting games, then we continued to bond as a group by sharing other interests. In this case, we are interested in porn.
The presence of this thread and others in GD span a wide range of topics. This is a good sign of a thriving community, that we are able to openly share interests with each other. I don’t really see why you are shocked this is here.
I don’t really see the point of you coming in here and complaining about it. The guys who post in here do so because we are interested in porn. We follow all the rules - no obscene pictures, no linking to websites that have porn - and we stick to those rules much more than many other threads. Compare this thread to the average hot girl thread in IMM.
