I’d say no, since I’m still hearing drama stemming from the original “ladies night” tourney at AI.

I also find it fairly demeaning towards women. Video games aren’t a physical activity where men automatically have perceived advantages. They’re a challenge of mental strength and should be an equal playing field. There’s no reason why women can’t and shouldn’t compete with men in video games. Regulating them to a side-show isn’t a good alternative to a lack of motivation.

Honestly it sucks but it’s just true: girls aren’t as good as guys at video games but it’s because there aren’t as many who play, or just play seriously. Maybe if guys in the US stopped making such a big deal out of it or babying girls by running bullshit ladies-only tournies, or if hoes stopped playing games for attention, the skill gap between girls and guys would be smaller, like it is in Japan.

I feel “most” women are or get intimidated to play against men. Which is why I believe we don’t see many take fighting games serious or feel like they would want to compete professionally. I think if we did give them a league of their own, we would start to see all a lot more women that are interested in fighting games. Eventually leading them to compete on a professional level without feeling so intimidated and potentially entering co-ed events as well.

This is an excellent idea for expanding our community, in this case more female competition. I back it 100%.

I love you Joe, but come on. Less girls are interested in games. That’s why there are less girls who enter tournaments. Also, I’d guess that out of the few girls who play fighting games, probably around 60% of them play because they like the game and have fun competing with people on their level (I fall into this category), about 10% play to compete, they practice and try their hardest to win tournaments and they can take a lot of people down (I don’t know her but I know Lexi is godlike at CvS2, maybe she falls into this category); and probably 30% just play for attention (I can give a ton of examples but I don’t want to get in trouble ;[ ).

All-girl tournaments are MADE for that 30%… so consider this: when you hold these tournaments, babying the female gaming community, you’re just promoting that shit… and you need to realize that when you do that, you’re not helping female gamers at all. Japan probably has godlike girls over there because they don’t do that. Guys here make a big deal out of girls playing games and feel, for some unknown reason, gaming should be gender segregated.

it may be sexist to seperate a non-gender dependant event, but you have to understand. men and women are NOT equal.

if you seriously think so, it just means you are ignorant and do not understand human physiology and psychology.

there are certain things men are structured to do better, and there are certain things women are structured to do better. that’s why every single (i may be wrong) competition sports is segregated. bowling, trampolines, swimming, field hockey, pole vault, i don’t give a shit name one that isn’t.

i’m not saying girls can’t be pro at something. hey look at danica patrick and michelle wei who are trying to break into a male-dominated sports… and maybe it is true that they get more sportlight because that is exactly what they are doing. a breakthrough.

if that’s what girls want to do, that’s cool. but, i don’t know about everyone but for me at least, i get a lot of encouragement to play and to get better by going into tournaments AND WINNING.

losing sucks, and although losing can be a motivator for some, it isn’t for most. girls don’t like losing, and on top of that majority of them are not as devoted as guys as many people have already pointed out.

so what is wrong with creating a female-only competition to get a better sense of how good of a player you are as a girl, or to get some wins under your belt and feel better?

having an all girl event DOES NOT mean that you are now banned from “male-only” tournaments. there are no such thing. i seriously do not see anything negative coming out of this whatsoever.

1. you might actually get a bigger influx of female gamers coming out of the woodwork, and/or being motivated to learn and play better

2. that means more creepy guys who’ll come to these events

3. many of these guys will be doing sidebets, and purchasing 40’s cause that’s just how we roll motherfuckers.

4. more money spent, better the economy.

we are saving the world guys.
