I actually think the demo is a poor representation of the final game. Free for all deathmatch is most likley going to get the least playtime, with most players doing co-op survival and team or species team deathmatch. Plus many folks were turned off by the pre-patch demo’s horrible match making and lack of dedicated servers resulting in lag. And finally the inclusion of a single-player or even tutorial meant alot of players were running around mashing and not getting a complete understanding of the gameplay mechanics.
Unless an alien player really knows his shit, I’ve seen marines really wrecking shop, the Free for all nature, allows any melee fights to get interrupted by a pulse rifle from a third party as the marine player picks up two more kills.
I was in a corridor trying to deal with 2 other alien players, they obviously weren’t down with working for the betterment of the hive with their fellow xenomorphs, so we were hopping from wall to wall, pouncing and generally haveing a good ol’ time, until a grenade ended our fun real quick.

I don’t feel that marines don’t get owned at all except if the game has a ton of aliens (natural counter). I think they’re the best in FFA because of their ability to kill steal and kill multiple targets.

-This is geniunely scary when you’re a marine for the 1st time and your motion tracker slowly starts beeping more.
-Predators have less health than Xenomorphs, WTF.
-Instant kills leave you so wide open you’ll almost always get instant killed by someone else.
-Xenomorphs are my favorite class so far, just sprinting non-stop then stopping to instant kill is pretty fun.
-The map on the demo was so fucking dark, I know it’s to convey a message of being all alone and to scare you shitless. But when Marines look like the fucking walls, it’s pretty hard to see them when your a marine, and the flashlight fucking sucks. I had to turn brightness all the way on the game menu to finally see wtf was going on.
-I think I’ll have more fun with the singleplayer. This game will be a great deal only in a bargin bin, which makes me sad. :sad:
What kind of TV is everyone playing on? I initially played on my old SDTV because I was too lazy to change out the VGA cables on my Evo monitor, but then I switched to that and I could see quite a bit better. Then again, one of my friends has a 30-inch HDTV and he complained about not being able to see very well also, so perhaps it’s just a brightness adjustment thing.
I will say that the jump in actual graphics quality was very large after switching to HD, I don’t usually notice that much difference with most games, but for this one I don’t think I would ever want to play it on an SDTV again.
The demo had me cracking up the other night… everyone was trying to go for the instant kills, and as soon as one person went for it, no lie, a line would form of people IKing each other. It looked like everyone was running a train on each other, lol.
So far the game doesnt seem too impressive. I like the ideas with the species though. Maybe if the demo had 2 more stages or so i could get a better feel for it.
I said the Aliens were beast before, but now I’m not so sure. I had a game where the Predator player handed every species their ass. It was like fighting a ghost.
At this point I’d say the species are fairly balanced. I’ve cleaned up with all 3 races, and been dominated by all 3. When I’m a marine, I’m definitely less afraid of aliens than preds right now, though.
this game is fun, but it needs polish. the lobby menus and hud are very absent of very needed text to describe things. a little box at the bottom of the lobby screen isn’t sufficient. everything should have a label.

i take issue with this. once i easily get a plasma weapon or my razor, humans are easy pickings. one little knick slices them up quite nice, and the lockon feature of the plasma is nice. ++jumping as well
I think this is meant to add some sort of risk/reward thing. As it is now, though, I dont ever use it unless I am certain nobody else is around. There are less time consuming ways to kill dudes. If you’re an alien just sit on the cieling. Nobody looks up, so you just stab them in the head with your tail.
But yeah why the fuck did they give us free for all?
