Sigh I tried ot watch the 3D last night, but being a family man made it difficult, only got to the exploding head part. TBH they did a much better job of 3D than Avengers.
So far though I’m watching the typical scary movie tropes and just like ‘really’…how the hell did the white chick ‘fall’ or get ‘blown away’ ALREADY. All over an exploding head. don’t spoil anything but so far…
Weyland’s projector used special effects make-up to make him n old head…so he’s going to re-appear later in a younger form…thats prolly why he funded the exploration…and with Facebender talking to someone, I’m thinking Weyland is with them.
I’m irritated that they setup stuff so quickly too…

Browsing around stuff on the BR and deleted scenes…
The description for the “Arrival of the Engineers” states that the Engineer is performing a sacred ritual on prehistoric Earth that will eventually generate intelligent life.
Strange Bedfellows was re shot because they felt Holloway’s attitude was too aggressive and unsympathetic, but hearing Holloway vent about finding nothing but another tomb and being disappointed that Earth is just petri dish better explains his petulant attitude and frustration. Janek fills Vickers should have been left in too, because the dialogue spoken in these scenes indicates the crew are less ambiguous about their theories of what LV-223 is, especially when Janek lays out his theory to Shaw nearing the climax.
A King has his Reign…when Vickers is warning Weyland that he will die if he goes down to the surface, she alludes to the “Screaming thing locked in the med bay”…so it seems they’re aware of Shaw’s baby, but either don’t know what to do with it or how to dispose of it…or more interestingly, figure they have it trapped and they’ll deliver to the bio weapons division on the return home…at least there was some acknowledgement of it.
Fifield’s alternate attack…anybody notice how similar Fifield looks to a xenomorph in this version? His head is about 3/4 of the way into turning into the xenomorph carapace, his arms and legs are skinny and have the style of articulation you saw in the later Alien CG stuff…and when they first open the hatch, instead of Fifield looking something out of The Thing, he looked a hell of alot like the coiled up xenomorph…to me anyway.
The Engineer speaks should have been left untouched
The Final Battle could have done without the proactive axe-fighting, but the Engineer marveling at the human technology while Shaw was hiding was too good to be cut down to “Airlock breach” then the Engineer ripping open the door. The tension in this scene mirrors the escape shuttle finale in Alien for me.
In the Peter Weyland files text bits…Weyland says that his research teams had discovered the signal from the derelict on LV-426 and where planning to go there when Holloway/Shaw deliver their thesis, with then brings LV-223 into the mix because both are in the Zeta Reticuli 2 star system. Weyland intends to let Holloway/Shaw take the public credit for whatever they discover while Weyland and his teams pilfer whatever technology they find there. He states that no one aboard the Prometheus is aware of the LV-426 signal…except for David.
I missed Vickers referring to the squid, good catch.

Finally watched it. So frustrated with how good it could have been. There was absolutely no suspense, no thrill or anything…I never really wanted to turn my head away. The concept and idea of the movie was awesome, but trimming, the pace, and lack of terror really took this out the realms of Aliens and into the realms of ‘sci-fi drama’.
The thing I got from watching the BR extras…to shorten the movie they knowingly cut out character building. They did so much of it that I had absolutely no empathy for anyone but Idris…cause he was a black dude shrug.
And why the fuck can’t bitches learn to run left or right? Oh this large straighht object is falling on us…plenty of room to run left or right.
BOTH white chicks trip how many times is this trope going to show its head one rolls about two feet left and dodges the WHOLE thing. The other bitch gets rolled over. Why the hell during all that running did neither…one who graduated from Oxford top of her class at the age of 17…not run left or right? Dumb Bitch Syndrome should be an officall movie trope.
Prometheus II has potential though…

Yeah, there’s all kinds of interesting stuff outside of the movie in the set. Did Ridley’s commentary last night and gonna do Spaihts/Lindelof commentary then watch the 3 1/2 hour documentary. It’s like Christmas for me:rofl: Plus the movie looks absolutely amazing on BR. I’m gonna be studying this shit for days lol.
They do make a left turn at one point, but I think the problem is that the scope of the ship seems to change when Shaw does the sideroll and it suddenly feels smaller than it did just seconds before.
How’d you feel about the other “bonehead” plays that people had problems with? I was kind of dreading seeing the Helmet removal but they explain that air is cleaner than earth’s air and David confirms it’s safe…didn’t feel quite as contrived as I remember.
Milburn’s snake bit could have used the help of finding the alien worm and the skin to show his excitement, but they really should have had him and Fifield sharing the suit bong hits and played up the “do drugs in scary movie you die” angle for laughs.
Otherwise I felt the movie did flow better on the second viewing, just because I wasn’t trying to process as much info as the first time.

If Dumb Bitch one can roll 2 feet left and get away from it…I’m pretty sure DB2 could have done something similar. My natural reaction would be to run perpendicular…period. I call it like I saw…dumb bitches.
The helmet thing was just ‘dumb white people in a horror movie’ trope to me. Excited guy dos something that to a typical black guy seems STUPID. Then I realized as the typical black guy I would have stayed on the ship…which is EXACTLY how it played out…so I had absolutely NO heartburn over that part haha. That was more realistic than most. True story the minorities were almost the last to die next to DB2. No I odn’t remember Aeon flux’s name…she’s simply refered to as DB2 for me…
The dudes who got seperated were in a weird place…you don’t leave a group, but they did sort of group up, so it wasn’t complete dumbness. However I would have high tailed it to the entrance of the cave and just chilled there until the storm finished. Fuck exploring the cave when no one can come save you…ESPECIALLY after seeing a decapitated 9 foot alien and later finding MORE. Then the dumbass has the NERVE to play with some shit. Now it makes more sense why he played with it after watching the extras…that wasn’t the first one they found. But I’m on the line about them…from a bone headed stand point…they made mistakes, but not ‘boneheaded’ I guess.
I still don’t understand why David ‘poisoned’ ‘the boyfriend’. At first it seemed like an experiment…but he didn’t seem to …ugh try and experiment with it. It was a very ‘weird’ part that feels like stuff was left out.
The one thing I REALLY liked plot wise though (not how it was ‘explained’ by the black guy (see the character depth was so deep I only remember Shaw’s name…and thats because of the extras and her stomach…I like DBs with muscular stomachs)) was that the ‘Aliens’ were being used as a biological weapon…EXACTLY like Weyland plans to ‘later’. I still don’t understand “Paradise” from the extras - and wish they didn’t leave ‘why’ The Engineers were anti-human off the table.

Edit: After reading the interview with the first script writer it seems like Fox asked him to write an Alien movie so he did, then they changed their minds and said “Wait we want it to be something new” so they shoe horned in new monsters that are basically Alien monsters because that was the initial premise to begin with. Now that it was no longer really an Alien movie Fox turned around and tried to sell it as an Alien movie.

I never thought I’d defend Fox, but it’s all Ridley. Fox seemed to be happy, it wasn’t till Ridley and Lidelof got the script did things go to pot as David says.
David poisons Charlie Holloway because Weyland told him to do whatever it took to get results. David can’t murder a human so he cleverly asks Holloway what he would be willing to do to get answers, to which Holloway answers “anything and everything”, this basically gives David permission to poison him. Unfortunately he death is in vein because the goo won’t help Weyland live longer.

Listened to Spaihts and Lindelof’s commentary…in the making of doc, they ask Spaihts why he thought Lindelof was brought on board, and Spaihts says "Because I had no credited work that had been made, and the studio want to bring in someone that had that"
I at least give Lindelof credit for saying “This was all Jon’s stuff, and it was great” when the credit was due. Aside from structural shifts, and the aliens changing from typical alien stuff, his major contribution to the plot was Weyland being on board the ship.
Wish they would have their commentaries separate, Spaihts definitely questions some of the choices Lindelof made in terms of just keeping the action going, and he alludes that some of the structural shifts made elements of the film harder to sell.
Some of Lindelof’s stuff is amusing…I’m not sure he really gives the audience credit for being smart enough sometimes…he mentions that Shaw’s baby was intended to be forgotten so it would be a surprise at the end of the film, when I felt that most people viewed it as a sub plot that is dropped without any closure.
Anyways, even with it’s lumps, it’s still an amazing movie to me. The sheer scope of it is so much fun to wrap your head around. The level of detail Ridley in the production design is pretty incredible to me, there’s so much visually interesting stuff going on. I was really surprised at how much stuff they did practically after watching the documentary, hardly any green screen for the physical sets, and all the alien stuff was done on set aside from the Trilobite that attacks the Engineer.
My brother watched it with his girlfriend, she couldn’t handle the medpod scene, went into the kitchen and was trying hard not to watch it but couldn’t look away. When the baby bursts out of it’s sac and spills fluid all over Shaw, she was just mumbling ‘Oh my God’ for a few minutes… She really had problems with it. :tup:
