if i knew u were gonna give me 2nd round i woulda saved my ex bars
I was there on Sunday playing nothing but viper. Had a good streak going until the real people showed up.:)Iām actualy enjoying losing sometimes and Iām already feeling a lot better playing more competition than laggy online scrubs. If you see a tall skinny dude playing viper thatās me. look forward to playing you all. I will destroy your guile someday Dustinā¦
good luck to all of you guys on your journey to being the best sf4 player in the world.
however, as someone who has played fighting games as a scrub, then as a tourney player, and now finally as a disinterested bystander, sometimes sandbagging CAN create a better player. and also sometimes playing just for fun is still fun.
by all means please slit each others throats while you enjoy your sf4. but what iām regarding towards āgoing easyā on is directed towards ou guys
god this is gonna be a long post. =/
but since you all called me out, iām going to explain myself.
anyways first things first. you guys are playing at camerons. since youāre all new here most of you dont know what that means. what it means is youāre now in the company of (well you guys actually outnumber the old regulars now i believe, but not the passersby thatāll play like 1 game.) let me try to cut this as short as possible. many of the people in the area either are computer illiterate or dont have internet access.
take for example the t5 machine. we all know t6 UPGRADE is out. as a competitive player why the fuck would anyone bother with t5? answer: because the player base of camerons has no idea of ācompetitive fighting gamesā. or shoryuken.com. or evo. or any of the many dozens other things you all take as common knowledge. or at least none of them did since a few years ago (2008? 2007?) when word spread to the marvel players there.
for example the marvel heads. those guys have been playing there since like 2003 or 2004? i have no idea (it was probably before i started playing there). at the time absolutely only 1 person knew of srk and all the same stuff you guys know about. he goes by deathwish. for basically 3-4 years (and i might add like 7ish years after marvel came out), he was the ONLY source of new tactics to the camerons players. maybe only 1 other guy even knew where to begin looking for new tactics.
anyways truthfully most of the regular camerons players are probably illegal immigrants. (no hate, its just how it is). so thats WHO youāre dealing with. iām not talking about srk guys. im talking about camerons players. some of whom have been pretty much been playing the same old camerons video games for 15+ years. (yes those games are that old, and yes THE SAME PEOPLE COME TO PLAY THE SAME OLD GAMES).
ok back to sandbagging.
me. im a retired player. however during the time i played ācompetitivelyā, i was slitting everyones throats at camerons at cvs2.
and after awhile it dawned on me. these guys ARE NOT GOING TO GET BETTER. ESPECIALLY WITH ME KILLING THEM OFF SO MERCIFULESSLY.
I KILLED CVS2 AT CAMERONS. NO ONE WILL PLAY ME AT CVS2 IN THIS ARCADE FOR MORE THAN A FEW GAMES. THEY WILL JUST LEAVE RATHER THAN PLAY ME.
ok cvs2 is an old game and thats probably partly the reason why no one plays it, but thats not the point.
anyways part way through my rampage of the local players, i decided, fuck it. theyāre not gonna get better and theyāre not gonna play me. so what the hell do i do?
iāll tell you what i did. i sandbagged. i started beating the really bad players with nothing but jabs. you know the kind of players that think SF is super mario bros? and they just jump around and throw fireballs? yeah i killed those guys with just jabs.
why? what is the fucking point? well guess what something happened!!! these guys started jabbing back at me!!! omfg!! they learned how to jab!!! and furthermore they were actually willing to play me more as i didnt kill them off in a minute without giving them any chance to hit me.
so from the point of a lowly jab i tried to educate some of them, through game play the larger points of cvs2. once they could deal with my jab, they now had to deal with my low forward and my low strong. then after that my roundhouses and fierces. and then after that jumps. and so at a certain point they were not abysmal scrubs anymore. i fucking taught them how to think. (however the few guys that im referring to i havent seen them there in probably over a year).
so yeah you guys have your point. AND I UNDERSTAND THAT POINT. i used to LIVE THAT POINT. but all im just saying is this:
PLEASE DONT KILL THE FUN OF THE GAME FOR GUY THAT IS PLAYING SUPER MARIO ON THE STREET FIGHTER CABINET BEFORE HE HAS A CHANCE TO LEARN WHAT THE HELL HE IS DOING.
we all have to start somewhere. and if you make him quit, heāll never start.
but when it comes to srk heads, ahead and be blood thirsty.
p.s. deathwish sandbagged on the camerons marvel cabs FOR YEARS before any of the regulars could catch up to him. hell i dont think half the guys even know WHEN hes doing the sandbagging. he basically BUILT MARVEL AT CAMERONS FROM MOTHER FUCKING SANDBAGGING.
p.p.s. if you throw back the small fish, it will grow into a larger fish. get it? it may not be a shark like all of you, but it will be a better meal in the long run.
iāve been popping in and out of camerons for a few years during my off days. i used to play marvel back in the day probably before you even decided to pick it up. donāt tell me iām a new guy to a place like that.
edit: i took out a lot of stuff because i donāt care for drama.
lets hear it. what do you have to say? iāve had my say, you can have yours too
hmmmm I think I would rather get destroyed and just have someone communicate to my why I got destroyed by him/her when they step off the cab.
btw for some reason I cannot execute for sh*t on the cabs (vs my fight stick at home) and it throws me off big timeā¦itās so bad it got to the point where the guy playing me asked me if I knew how to do an effing Raging Demonā¦ granted Iām a Cammy mainā¦ but I couldnāt even do an air fireball or cr.mk -> fireball with any sort of consistency let alone a bnb cl.FP -> light tatsu -> srk
I firmly believe players can learn from repeated stompings. If you only use 75% of the moves from your characters arsenal then your opponent is just going to learn how to play against someone that is only utilizing 25% of their moves. Also, I have never been the type of player to withhold information. If I see that a player is unaware of how to counter a certain move/tactic, I will tell them what beats it.
Iāve only been to cameronās twice now. On Friday I noticed a balrog player was trying to combo overhead, c.LK, headbutt. I immediately let him know that against guile you have to switch c.LK with c.MP.
Getting beat down and asking questions is a great way to learn. Playing against better players is the quickest way to improve, for any fighting game.
Edit: I am still a scrub, but getting destroyed by Dekar in 3rd strike and HDR/ST improved my play 10 fold.
Quoted for truth. I always ask Warahk āhow do I make guile/vega not a 8-2 matchup?ā after he beats me. He simply responds with ābecome an tragic heroā.
Lol, be like tatsu and tech every throw. Add s.LK and c.LP strings to your footsies.
ā¦
Switch to ryu
āTatsu is the best Vega in Americaā
Another quote today that is TRUTH.
I canāt even compare myself to him yet (or possibly ever).
Yeah, Iām as surprised as you I didnāt nascar with Ryu.
the big reason why i beat some players really really fast with no remorse is the fact that theyre the ones that are destroying the sticks
u know what i mean, the guys that play the game and the whole cabinet begins to shake like an earthquake
im doing every1 a favor right there
but usually when i see people that actually want to play, i do try to give em a few pointers (even though i aint that good)
id rather not sandbag though
Communicating is the key to getting better anyhow
communicating is great if the other player speaks english, guys. =/ this is camerons
Dude, with your Guile, I donāt think you can call yourself a scrub. Maybe itās just my lack of experience against Guiles, but you beat my ass with little trouble back at shglās.
And for what itās worth, iām in the ābeatdowns can help you learnā camp. If any of the people really want to get better, theyāre gonna have to take their lumps.
pick sagat, no matchup experience required to regulate guile
But I donāt like Sagat.
me either but i play him when i get gayed by guiles
Iāll prolly try to hit this place up when I have some spare time in the next week. When do people plan on showing up?
Also, does the arcade sell SF4 cards and do the readers work? Just wondering.
personally, i have a very hard time learning anything if a pro beats me down and i canāt execute anything. so i believe sandbagging isnāt bad at all. at the very least it gives the opponent a chance to try something new instead of running into your fists.
i agree communication is a good way to learn. but half the stuff people say to me i donāt understand. i understand tricks more if i can see it in action.
That is the truth. I was that balrog player. Even though I did not take one round on you, I feel like I learned more than beating 110 flowchart kens on PSN. In fact, it showed me how useless that really is and how important it is that I work on my execution so I donāt miss important opportunities.
PS: The faster the Pros beat people. The faster that very nice cab gets paid off and the games only cost .25 cents each.
i want to swing by sometime after work this week, but that means i wonāt get there until around 10:30pm. is there any chance there will be comp around that time?
