Not trying to be contrarian but I think his biggest flaw in 3S was his bad Oki. You land an EX Flash, a sweep, Powerbomb, or just regular throw and you STILL have to dash in. The good Oki is partially what makes Makoto, Dudley, and Yang so good.
Because itâs a revamped look on his old style that fits in with the new redesigns associated with characters like Ken and Vega. Like how Vegaâs redesign just gives him a grandma shirt I suspect the checkered top to be a part of Alexâs new design.
Alex is built for 3S so he will need a lot changed.
His lack of a low cancel and high/low throws and blockable throw are all things which are only relevant in 3S.
So itâs kind of dumb to try to compare him to that.
Heâs really cool in that he has an answer for every kind of thing an opponent can do, the problem is theyâre mostly 1:1. So when you make the wrong choice you get nothing and even possibly fucked up for it.
This is SF5. Itâs entirely different. I think he will have flash chop, powerbomb, his flying knee and his elbow slash. The rest, who knows.
alex has a great wakeup game. i smell theoryfighter. alex can push people to the corner very quickly so his lack of ability to just sit on top of them forever isnât a tragedy.
alex overall is lacking ultimately so comparing him to makoto who is the best grappler with the best wakeup game in the game and dudley who has possibly the strongest corner-game is not exactly fair.
I wasnt comparing, theres nothing really to compare him to. I just felt he has too many special moves. He was just all over the place design wise even in 3s.
He has a lot of special moves in 3S, yes. That being said, they did all have their uses, with some of them being niche as fuck (DDT, for example, only works against opponents that donât know how to jab out of it or have been trained to block high and react with absolutely nothing).
At the core, you really only need Flash Chop, Slash Elbow, Power Bomb, and Stomp. Air Knee Smash, eh, you can do without but itâs cool to be able to combo that out of anti-air s.strong. DDT wouldnât be bad to stop guys who mash lows.
ReNiC said it best when describing 3S Alex: incomplete. This is a chance to really flesh out the character, though, and see whatâs necessary. If it were me, Iâd just port the damn character over, but this is also SF5, and we canât all have our way.
Bull Head, the motion attack, was back charge in Alpha. Bull Horn was a TAP input, but in SFV you only need 1 button instead of PPP (idk if he had a KKK version)
Capcom admits that charge lends itself to defensive play; I doubt an offensive stun monster would have charge moves in SFV.
Air Knee Smash will probably be gone unless they want to make him more combo-centric.
I could see his go-to anti air being crouch HP. Slow but solid if done at the right time like Bisonâs crouch HP in V.
If you had a choice between Slash Elbow or Flash Chop, which could you do without? EX Slash Elbow could punish shit but I donât think it would be safe on block again in V. I donât think any of his Elbowâs would be safe on block considering the other tools he has.
Iâd prefer Flash Chop being his go-to so long as you could use it to reflect fireballs. It would be nice if EX Flash Chop reflected fireballs back at an even faster speed and gets an extra hit or puts them in some serious blockstun.
Yup bg model, still nice to see what it looks like when it doesnât suffer from being in the bg. Ignoring what heâs wearing and body; his face and hair did translate over pretty good
