Akuma's Frame Traps

One thing you need to realize is that loose frame traps are intended to beat those who react rather than those who mash. If people are mashing you need to employ different tactics to punish them for their habit. This is where you use traps such as EX Tatsus or SRKs. Tighter frame traps are also decent, but I find most people are smart enough not to mash jab through them. Tatsus and SRKs catch even the more seasoned players (and trust me I eat them regularly lol!).

to avoid ex tatsu simply do os crouch tech with c.mp…you’ll stuff it 90% of the times. Hell, even 100% probably.
Srk is a bitch tho, i sometimes get caught by it, too

You can beat that type of OS tech by using the ex tatsu when you have heavy frame advantage.

I seem to stuff it all the time vs ryu and akuma and i used to get hit by it when i did the normal c.lk+c.lp os crouch tech.

Off of a jump?

Blocked air fireball setup?

Immediately after a jab?

Anyplace where the frame advantage is heavily in your favor.

Granted most of these setups you can still beat ex tatsu with a normal, but that normal would need to be spammed to come out early enough, and that type of spam would leave one open to other frame traps.

It depends on what timing you are using to break throws. If you are breaking early you will interrupt the ex tatsu, but get hit by stuff like c.lp, c.mp (throw break done right after the c.lp) and if you break as late as possible (which imo is the best way to go if you wanna be as safe as possible) you will rarelly get hit by frame traps like c.lp, c.mp/walk c.mp etc but will get hit by ex tatsu often.

Jump in rh, slight walk ex tatsu works very well for some reason!

I did test it. In heavy frame advantage situations you would need to spam the cr mp to hit the ex tatsu. If you do a late tech you still get hit. It all depends on how you set up the ex tatsu and the timing you use to break/punish.

Late os mp tech will beat late ex tatsu. Late os mp tech will lose to early tatsu. Early os mp tech will beat any ex tatsu but leave you open to other frame traps.

How reliable do you guys think would be to use cr. lk, st. lk, far HK as a frame trap vs characters that are forced to block both hits while crouching?

It’s aimed for beating late option select techs, Bison’s cr. lk into close standing fierce is a very famous frame trap to catch people who tech late, it has a gap of around 7 frames. Akuma’s cr. lk, st. lk pushes the opponent enough to be in kara throw range and far rounhouse would come out at this range instead of close. St. lk is +2 on block, so there’s a gap of 6 frames between it and the far roundhouse, if it connects = huge combo and even an untechable knockdown vs tatsu sweepable characters.

i’m really liking this one. if the far HK hits, then you’re at a close enough range to link a close HP, and that can lead to terrible, terrible damage with FADC combos. gonna try this next time i play…

The red fireball ender is only for huge stun factor. You can use an ex fireball in it’s place for large stun and very good damage which is also a true blockstring after the HP is blocked. In the corner both allow you to DP after hit.

Ok, so I’ve been using this frame trap for a couple of weeks now and I got to say this thing is money. The damage and stun is amazing for so little investment and it hits in so many situations, more than I anticipated.

Be confident of another thing though: you can throw the opponent out of their crouch tech. If you do jab, jab and leave just a little gap for something to come out before the throw, then their crouch tech won’t work and they’ll get thrown. The crouch tech offers protection when it isn’t starting up or coming out, like when it’s registered within block stun or during a grab animation (which prevents the normal coming out). If they delayed a little more, then your throw would start and then the tech would save them; but that delay leaves them open to a trap. Basicly, don’t feel that just because you’ve seen them using a crouch tech, you have to normal trap them until they stop in order to use a throw again… the throw is still part of the offense.

(if they stand tech, then they get a full window; but this becomes vulnerable to lows like cr.MK EX fireball)

There’s no go-to tech buster setups. A lot of this stuff depends entirely upon the whims, patterns and tendency of your opponent. Its up to you to figure out exactly what he’s attempting to do in situations where you (or him) are ripe for grabs.

Also note that a skilled opponent may catch on to what you are doing and reversal some of your setups. This is typically done when they have stocks to cancel a potentially bad guess, or if your trickery starts getting predictable.
