Very long time SF player here. I actually started playing when the original SF came out with the huge punch pads and Ruy only had red hair Got even more into it when SF II got into the arcades and eventually, when it came out on SNES…haha If I can only count the hours that we played the SNES version…it would be mind boggling.
I won the first SF II tournament in Little Tokyo for SNES in Los Angeles back in I think 1992. My brother placed second that day.
So anyways, fast forward and I’m a concept designer now working in the entertainment industry here in L.A. working on a ton of video games, movies, etc. I’ve always loved SF and it reminds me of the good 'ol days. I did a quick painting of my version of Akuma the other day and I hope to paint a few more characters when I get some time.
Okay yeah, I’ve seen your site at some point on the internets. Great stuff. I just graduated design school and you’re doing what I hope to be in a few years-- concept design. Any tips for breaking in?
I’ve been putting together a graphic novel (slowly) where I’m writing, designing characters, drawing, inking-- everything basically, with the intention of using it as a one big portfolio piece. Am I shooting myself in the foot?
Can’t say i like the Akuma pic very much, but the work on your site is rather damn good. Excellent in fact. I particularly like the Forbidden City-esque pic in the conceptual design section. Very evocative, which i like. In general too much good stuff to mention.
As far as the graphic novel goes, most people wouldn’t want to see that say in the video game industry. They’d rather see your concept artwork and 3d work.
It really depends on where you want to go. If you were to try to get into comics, then that would be good to show.
Also, if you are strong at one particular thing…say characters, go for a job that involves that. Don’t try to go and get a job designing environments. Play to your strengths.
-jz_chu237, I can’t please everybody But, thanks for the compliments.
Ooooh cool a professional work. Really liking the solid tones… and his face structure kinda reminds me of Kent Mansley!!! I’d really like to see you tackle some female characters.:wgrin:
Welcome to srk, and I hope you post more!
Ohyeah I suck at Street Fighter. That’s why I draw.
