well something to think about is that a lot of the things you learn while playing ken (offensive pressure/mix-up/srk AA) translates very well as a starting point for akuma… and then the early learning isn’t nearly as bad because you have a good deal of understanding of the RTSD game.
To ask Akuma users which character to use between Ken and Akuma is kinda crazy. Akuma is not a runaway character, as earlier stated. He actually has the nastiest rushdown game there is. He just has the abaility to get outta there when in dangerous situations. Ken is good, just not very strong. You just gotta learn the ins and outs of whoever you decide to use. If you really want to sicken your opponent, chose Akuma and learn to time his Super/Ultra along with being consistent with his Bread & Butter combos. You’ll be ok.
i HAVE TO ask. why do you have balrog in your name and as avatar while asking this?
Did you really ask this in the Akuma thread?
Ken is garbage. Yes, I am biased. He is garbage.
Akuma doesn’t have any bad match-ups, it’s all mind games at a certain level. If you are getting beat by a certain character, you are not really getting beat by the character, it’s about playing and getting beat by a better player.
I know someone already picked up on this, but what the hell are you talking about. Akuma has literally the fastest walk-speed in the game, a teleport, demon-flips, 3-frame jabs like all the other shotos, and a brutal step-kick. Ken, in contrast, is slower than ryu. In terms of the ability to move around the screen freely, Akuma is one of the fastest characters in the game.
Akuma is pretty much one of the best characters in the game, both offensively and defensively. He’s one of a few characters that actually force Sagat to dodge fireballs in a fireball war. He can do some of the best run-away in the game, he walks faster than most of the cast, he can step-kick and then combo off his step-kick, he has a command jump, he can provide cover for his attacks with air fireballs, his combos do a ton of damage, and he has no really bad match-ups.
Ken has a kara-throw, and can be played a bit more recklessly.
A bad ken is probably a lot better than a bad akuma, but that’s not really saying much, and if you’re trying to learn a new character, it’s probably better to learn one with legs. Besides, playing a good Ken requires absurdly good intuition and a lot of precision itself.
Yall gotta hook me up with some high level videos of Akuma players rushing down a good Ryu, Balrog, Rufus, Sagat,Chun Li, etc. I’d love to see that. In my opinion his offensive tools are varied and deep but he is best played with a defensive mind set more times than not.
I don’t think Ken is a good character, and Akuma is at worst top 5. Use him. Ken ain’t getting it in with the big boys.
I feel the same way playing as Bison. Im over agressive and want to rush down like crazy. When I meet a turtle I have a really hard time slowing down my game to patiently break through his defense.
This was a also a problem for me when I used to main Akuma but more so because my execution was not good at all and I had a hard time setting up BnB combos because of it.
I’ll eventually go back to Akuma but I need to work out my execution mishaps first.
i wouldn’t dare step into the ken forum for fear of my head exploding. :bottle:
once you can live w/ akuma’s health problem he’ll be better than ken in the end.
Akuma has bad match ups? Thats news to me. But anyways, Akuma is the man. Hes offensive is sick. His footies are ridiculus and hes got so many mix ups and set ups its not even funny. On the flip side, his defensive is just as good. Only thing about Akuma is that you cannot fuck up his offensive or defensive, or its basically over. If you watch match videos of Akuma vs characters like Rufus or Gief, you would initially think that this is like a 7-3, maybe even 8-2 match up in Akuma favor. But give it some time, and bam, Akuma eats one BnB from Rufus or one SPD from gief and the match is over. His stamina makes most of his matches even or 6-4 at best. Overall though, hes a fun and rewarding character to play if you have the patients to learn his fight style and match ups.
I pick akuma learn how to play with him
and knock everyone who cross your path
a lot of ppl only give up on akuma because his stamina
dont be the one of these because akuma is really really strong like i said
in the first it doesnt matter if you lose or win
every lost match is more experience to you
you will learn by loses what you should avoid against these char and what is really good against them
:wtf:
someone should write a poem. it’s only fitting…
Apollo Balrog,
Most impressive thread ever.
Go back to GameFAQS.
Haiku motherfucker!
How did this help you, Apollo Balrog, me, anyone who reads it, the Akuma sub-forum, shoryuken.com and/or the SF4 scene as a whole, in any single conceivable way, shape, or form?
Baited son. YJDK
Shit post, in a shit thread. No one cares. Get over yourself. How did this thread help anyone on SRK?
It didn’t. :lame:
guys i made a mistake saying that akuma has bad match-ups i was meant to say ken has bad match-ups compared to akuma, well akuma has better basically, also you just have to play a certain way with akuma against top tier characters, possibly quite cautious.
Uh… I think I covered this in my 2nd reply:
This is more in line to what I wanted to say.
Ken, he’s way better than Akuma in every aspect of the game. Do it.
This might possibly be the most important thread on SRK.
