I agree, rope hand wraps would’ve been better. However, they only started giving Akuma the rope hand wraps starting from SFIV onwards. Since Akuma’s Nostalgia costume has the padded gloves like Ryu and Ken’s Story costumes, you could say that this is the classic or Alpha Akuma.
I like the EX Hyakkishu launching on the way up. But that may be because I like Vega’s EX FBA. That was a great addition to him.
True. Akuma’s CA, Sekia Kuretsuha, is the move you see him use in his SSFIV ending. There, it obliterates a forest, whereas Oni’s Ultra Combo II, Tenchi Sokaigen, is a weaker blast and needs that follow-up Goshoryuken. See, Oni is actually weaker than Akuma because in his mind, Akuma is struggling against the Satsui no Hado trying not to get taken over completely. So Sekia Kuretsuha is stronger but not as strong as the Kongou Kokuretsuzan from SFIII.
I’m really happy to see that I’m not the only one who absolutely loves the new look for Akuma. It seems like all I’ve heard is whining about it on reddit… Lion Akuma looks fierce!
Yeah, I don’t think Akuma would have bother going to a city just to buy new pair of gloves in a sports/gym shop, while that’s a different case with Ryu because he travels in the city and interacts more with different people or have the possibility to receive gifts from the likes of Ken, Sakura or other Street Fighters he befriends with. Ken should always have more tidy karate gi than the two. Gouken looks proper and realistic to his SF4 design. I like the art direction and innovation of Classic Akuma in SF4 and Tekken 7 than his SF3, SFZ and SF2.
As for the regular costume of SFV Akuma about his facial hair, the growth of it seems bizarre in proportion and unnatural, Is it possible that it lacks a “Moustache” on natural and unshaved manner? or he really does shave only the upper lip portion of facial hair and preferred the lower chin facial hair/goatee grow that way? The more I like the art direction of SFV’s Ryu that seems realistic and proper. While SFV Akuma and even his classic costume should have been more rugged. It’s like they just want to justify difference but lack of creative or it’s simply intentional? I don’t even think that Akuma needed a dramatic overhaul to his facial representation that is already memorable and iconic than the likes of SF 90s/previous version of Ryu and Ken before SF4 that is so generic in the video games industry.
Akuma should have been a resourceful character in terms of visual representation as a definition of his persona that supposed to used improvise stuff for those kind of accessories since he went to seclusion to wilderness from the time he focus to improvements of his combat practices. He looks tidy than his SF4 counterpart and SFV Ryu in the classic version that shouldn’t be even in SFA era. In SFA3-SF4 era he only have a very few encounters and mostly spend time into stalking and fighting Ryu in the wilderness like Caves and Volcanoes. IMHO.
While for his new take on Special Moves, I do like it, but i do believe they could do better for his EX Tatsu and EX Shoryu than just having Ken and Ryu version.
Is there a video showcasing all of his colors? I’m wondering if they changed his hair color in some of the ALTs similar to Oni since SFV’s Akuma appears to be a hybrid.

I think rope hand wraps might be a traditional kind of thing, not a solitude kind of thing. I’ve heard that before there where padded gloves, people used to box with rope hand wraps. They then switched to padded gloves because people were getting fucked up with rope hand wraps. Akuma doesn’t give a fuck.

SFV’s classic Akuma is more akin to his head swap days, unlike his SF4, MVC3, SFxT and Tekken7 counterpart that uses gloves and belt made of ropes, which is a more simplistic, realistic and a bad ass of nostalgic interpretation.

I was wondering if anyone would notice. 
Ah, I forgot about the rope belt. Yeah, the rope belt was added even before the rope hand wraps. The artworks vary at times throughout the years. But as far as sprites, Akuma had sandals on most of the time, even in his debut in ST. The only times he didn’t have sandals on his sprite was SvC and whenever his Alpha sprite was used. At least the Nostalgia costume has the sandals. So I guess you could say Akuma’s Nostalgia costume is ST Akuma.
