Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

her cs is dumb, just getting that out of the way, lol, but basically after sweep, you can immediately jump and d+mk dive kick which will safe jump her cs, or early palm and hopefully bait the cs so you can punish however you wish. If you do early palm, sometimes they will grab, in that case i think you can do a late crouch tech after landing to A) block if she does a cs, or B) tech the throw if she tries to throw, but i don’t know if this works, i’ve never tried it, lol

ok guys i have watched the vortex videos and i found it interesting. It is a lot of things to keep track of coming from a character as straight forward as bison. I also have a question on doing an FADC. I read some guides and i hear the tern easy when FADC’ing a DP into red fireball is involved. In my opinion it feels very awkward to do. Do you all have any tips for me to incorporate into my repetitions while i practice this?

Oh hey Laughter, I played you twice today; didn’t know you used shoryuken. Good games.

This is actually one of the things I don’t do that often, mainly because I find it awkward too+I am terrible at maintaining metre lol. Well that and when I have the metre, I don’t even realise.
However one bit of advice I do have is to keep MP+MK held down until after you’ve finished the combo, I find this boosts my consistency because you don’t have to worry about accidentally whiffing the the focus attack instead and all in all I personally find it to be a much smoother motion.

Also I recommend you practice simply dashing and then shooting a red fireball on its own first, before you piece everything together. Try to continue the motion from the dash into the red fireball motion, so something like this… :f: :f: :df: :d: :db: :b: :hp:

All that being said though, i’m still not 100% consistant at pulling it off, maybe more like 70% and as a result of my lack of consistency plus my bad metre management; I don’t really use it in matches.

Although I know I really should.

BulimicCannibal gave pretty good input advice regarding how to pull off the SRK>FADC>Red Fireball combo - basically you want to use the second ‘forward’ as the beginning of the shaku input. That said, BnB>FADC>Red Fireball isn’t a good use of meter in SSF4 - you’ll actually do more damage just doing an EX SRK at the end of the combo, plus you’ll only burn one bar of meter. Ending with the red fireball does give you decent spacing for a mixup, but that’s arguably not worth the extra bar of meter in some circumstances.

so would you all say it would be wise to focus my attention else where and practice this less and word on my BnB’s more?

I found video from that series to be of great help - he basically outlines a typical practice run for Akuma, at least how he does it, and it’s definitely helped me get better with the FADCing. And all the other stuff like crossup tatsus and links.

Oh really! Who won? I take it you were playing Akuma? I can remember the tag, but I played so many games last night I can’t remember what happened. I lost like 500 PP in about half an hour and then spent the rest of the night getting them back :frowning:

I was working on this last night. Seems like a very good option. However, I found that the timing can be quite tricky. Am I right in saying you have to do the command DK as early as possible for it to work?

Also, I’ve gotta say, if there’s anyone in this game who is “broken”, it’s Cammy. That CS is ridiculous. It autocorrects almost all the time and has ridiculous priority. Plus she has instant DK, great damage output, damaging combos, easy hit confirms, FADC into ultra!

I can’t wait for AE to come out

If Cammy’s broken, it’s not because of her DP.

I’m starting to use this:

i command dive kick at the top of the jump, and it usually works, for mid range sweep, you can immediately jump and cross up forward, and it should safe jump

You won the 1st, I won the second. And yep, I was Akuma lol.

It seems to me that the B rank level players i’m usually playing these days, have pretty solid defence and the only way I manage to break through besides in footsies is by using tick throws and “frame traps” which I find rarely provide me with an oppurtunity to pull off good combos. I say “frame traps” because I only use the ones I can mash out at the moment (ones that wouldn’t link or be blocked if I messed up).

Maybe it’s the fact that when I score a knockdown i’m not very ambigious with my attack plan, so it’s easy for them to either block or DP my attacks. Plus I’m usually mentally prepared to go into a block string instead of Akumas b&b because i’m used to them blocking or DPing so many of my attempts lol.

I’m basically wondering how exactly you’re meant to space yourself without being competely obvious as to what your intentions are. I’ve heard that good players often can’t tell themselves if they’re going to crossup or hit with a normal aerial, for certain parts of the vortex.

I just can’t seem to grasp the true pottential of the vortex, and i’m only really hitting with a rare air tatsu into sweep, or more lately air tatsu into shoryuken because I know how predictable my vortex game is so i’m trying to get the most damage out of the situation that I can.

if use a hp df palm to jump over my opponent on wakeup and bait out the dp can i use a mp throw tech to prevent the wake up throw? will the mp stuff the srk? when I use the df palm whiff what should I do on their wakeup?

Bold = my reply to what you said<3

Either start a combo with a regular delayed throw tech cr.lp+lk or delayed cr.lp.lk.mp. This way you can tech them if they try to throw and if they DP, because of your delay your crouching attack won’t come out. And a small tip: If you keep getting tech’d on your opponents wakeup, SRK them when you have 2 bars.

thanks i had guessed so but everytime i tech throw they srk me cause the c.lk doesnt stop the invicibility frames.

True, that’s why you need to delay it a bit. That way, if they do nothing you perform a cr.lk or cr.mp (depending on what you inputted), if they throw you tech and if they reversal you just block. Here’s a video showing what i mean
