Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

Laughter 7, cammy gets up 1 frame slower, like sagat. However her hitbox makes it a little iffy. Xup tatsu in this setup is never safe in my experience, the cannon strike will auto correct in her favour.

hello all i am a bison mainer as you can probably tell from my av but lately it has gotten boring. I have always wanted to try a command character since i am like a fish out of water with them. I chose akuma because i’ve heard he has a good rushdown gam like bison( i love to rush down almost to a fault) ut he also has a good keepaway which is something that i am not used to doing so i thought it was a chance to learn something new. my question is where do i begin with akuma training? I hear about the vortex but i am assuming as a an intermediate street fighter player and a beginning akuma that is out of my league for now. I have read some threads but i would like a focal point to begin with if that is possible.

I just started learning him too, and I’ve found this to be the bees knees.

It’s never too early to learn the vortex, and its your main tool for good damage. The basic aim of Akumas gameplay IMO is to be somewhat cautious and defensive until you can score a knockdown, then go bat shit insane.

There’s an entire thread dedicated to it, and I also suggest you watch the Vortex 101 video, which should be somewhere in the link the last poster posted.

ok im havin trouble bloking sims crossup fb wen he teleports wtf

You aren’t blocking the fireball, you’re blocking sim no matter what. So when he teleports behind you, block by holding the opposite direction of where he is.

I recently found this I actually found it to be pretty helpful, so I thought I’d post it here for some of the newer users to see too. Obviously doesn’t deserve its own thread.

It’s not specific to Akuma, but I figured if it helps… It can’t hurt to share.

I feel like I should have asked this 2 years ago.

Does frame advantage stack up? Lets say c.LP is +3 on hit, will I have 9+ frame advantage if I hit it 3 times?

No you won’t.

How do u get df kick to crossup in the corner. I find it really hard to do. 9/10 times it will just whiff if i try to cross up.

The easiest setup is after a df throw in the corner, immediate dash forward, then do any demon flip and do the dive kick as early as possible (i.e. mash kicks).

It is character specific though. Try it on like “big” characters. Yeah, sorry I never really tested it out on everyone, but I know for sure it works on Sagat, Guile, Bison, and Viper. And against each of the characters, they have to block it differently. For example, I think Guile can only block it while holding down-back; he gets hit if he tries to block standing either way, if I recall correctly. But for the most part, the opponent has to block it regular (i.e. towards the corner still, even though it looks like a cross up).

Once your opponent notices that he has to block it this way though, just do a demon flip palm and then do whatever combo.

Helpful, thanks.

oh ok lol. I was trying it with sweep and shit. No wonder.

ok thank you will do

To add to this: AFAIK crossup demon flip kick only works in the right corner. You can’t do a cross up demon flip kick in the left corner for love nor money.

I’ve heard about it, but never bothered investigating… Is there a reason for this to only work in the right corner?

Are you sure? I think it works in both corners. Most of the right/left corner-specific situations are gone in Super.

Makes sense. I still have a terrible time doing ANYTHING to her on wake up. I find the best thing to do is a try to bait out a cannon spike, but even if you get lucky it’s hard to punish because of how far back she flies after the spike!

Do you guys have any advice for vortexing Cammy? E.g. what’s the best thing to do after a sweep? What about after a throw?

No. You should start vortexing right away. That is what Akuma is all about. However, you can keep your vortex simple at first. Learn to cross up tatsu. Then when you are able to condition your opponent to block the the cross-up hit him with flip throws and fake cross-ups (command dive kicks, e.g.).

I tested this a while ago, it all comes down to how close you are when you land (assuming you are just blocking and not OS’ing anything, like EX SRK) in front of her with your DF palm.

Assuming you land point blank, after you block her CSpike you can go huge on her, just walk forward a bit, then st.HK, cr.MP xx LK Tatsu into Sweep, you can even st.HK, cr.MP xx fireball fadc cr.MP LK Tatsu into Sweep. On the other hand, if you land a bit far from her, a sweep might be your only option, since every st.HK followup won’t reach. Something in between these should be st.HK, cr.MK into EX fireball, but haven’t really tested it.
