I never checked his counter’s properties vs fireballs, but I assume double fireballs should beat it clean, when I play against Gouken, I pretty much win only with DF palms and grabs lol, they totally destroy Gouken’s day and never thought of figuring out other stuff vs his wakeup :P.
i know for sure that he will beat a single air fireball with his counter
Why not go for the ‘sure win’ 9/10 times flip palm? Gauranteed knockdown, armor breaks, for continued vortex. I rarely if ever tk fireball even as crossup on Gouken after a sweep.
And I’ll have to try piano HK~MK~LK to see if it improves my lk tatsu sweep link. It pains me that even plinking only lands it for me 3/10. Ugh!
I was watching a tokido match and I saw him doing lp. fp. lk. together a lot, what is the point of this?
That’s Akuma’s kara throw, inputs should show it as LK+LP+HP and HP on another line.
I have a couple questions that some experienced players may be able to answer.
- What is a rekka and how do you deal with a character that has a rekka?
- The chun matchup has me extremely frustrated tokido says that it is a 7-3 but I always get reversaled by chuns ex bird kick when I get a knockdown.
- How do I handle deejays wakeup options, mainly the ex upper kick i dont know what it is called, the match up thread says that it can be beat “When done at the right angle” does anyone know the correct angle for that?
- And finally how what is the possible input for the raging demon option select that is commonly used by tokido. Its shown here in this match tokido does it twice to rico suave in this match at 4:23 and at 6:17.

Rekka is Fei’s dash punch. Block them. If Fei does all 3 and are blocked, it is free/easy damage or super/ultra if you have meter.

Demon dive kicks will stuff spinning birdkicks all day including ex version. Spacing is key. Close, use lk dive kick. Further away use mk dive kick. HK dive kicks will work at further distance but I have rarely used or done them in my matches as after a knock down I am close for lk and mk dive kicks. Demon palm stuffs it too but spacing is tighter so I opt for dive kicks .

Dive kicks also but spacing is tighter than versus Chun’s spinning birdkicks. More than not, if in doubt use the HK dive kick. That’s my take and norm. If it hits. Countered. If it misses you over dived untouched on the other side for free/easy punish. It’s not a gauranteed option. Just my battle experiences. More than not, I don’t jump in versus DJ much like versus Adon, Sagat, Ryu, or Ken. The window of a reversal for them is greater than the risk.

Buffer the inputs of demon along with the sweep. It’s called option select. I call it buffering cause the inputs are done with the initial attack.
Are there any setups that can lead to a focus crumple? like hado > fa. Ive been trying it a lot but it doesn’t work at all for some reason. Any tips?
Hey guys, new akuma here.
I’ve have a few questions regarding a ryu matchup and some general stuff. I play a decent ryu on a regular basis. He’ll tech 90% of my tech throws. And he likes to walk up and c. Strong. I generally don’t play footsies cuz I find he stuffs alot with that punch. Also I was wondering what’s the best thing to do after a blocked demon dive kick. I usually block cuz of the counter shoryuken. He usually won’t fall for baits.
All players beyond the basic level integrate reversal baits into their general offense so that they don’t even think about it and it becomes harder to find spots to reverse them outta their flow. Next time, whenever you leave them a gap for their reversal you should do a slightly late backthrow so that if they don’t take the bait you still get a throw attempt. Against a 3 frame SRK, if you leave a 3 frame gap and start your throw on the fourth frame; the backthrow will get eaten by the blockstun if they SRK so you will stay completely safe from it and get to combo punish, and if they don’t SRK then your backthrow comes out.
There’s no reason it even has to be timed strictly either; you can leave a 5 frame gap before the backthrow if you’re more comfortable with that. Tighter is better to stop them pressing buttons though. You can also do this with any normals in your block strings. Leave a reversal gap then do your next hit while on b or d/b.
If you watch inputs in their replays; players like ShadyK, Air… everyone really. They do these kinds of things constantly.
Look in the Akuma frame trap thread on this forum for information about how to catch the guy out for trying to tech throws. Frame traps often use delays, so this is a good point for the SRK baits. You’re able to cover attack and defence at the same time.
Still when I buffer them sometimes it just wont come out what is the timing of the option select and if I buffer them remember I still have to hit the palm after the demon flip right on the opponents wake up I dunno its just confusing to a semi newer player like me
If you want to option select your DF palm with a demon, the palm input would be a part of the demon’s command, so after forward throw dash twice, use medium kick demon flip, then when you want to hit your opponent with your palm enter the entire demon command quickly (LP (the palm will comeout), LP, back+LK+HP), if you inputted it fast enough, the demon will never comeout on hit or block, it’ll only comeout when the palm whiffs, this OS isn’t as useful vs most of the cast like it is vs Abel (most invincible reversals for example will beat the demon).
As for the sweep demon buffer, that’s used vs focus attacks usually, after you get U1, buffer the 2 jabs in your sweep, if someone tried to focus punish your sweep, complete the U1 motion to punish their focus with U1, this isn’t an option select though, it’s based on your reaction.
Thanx devilknight I’ll definitely look into that.
Ok this setup is driving me insane, I’m trying to do the forward throw dash twice then demon flip kick and stuff the god damn reversal. But I can’t get it, I ALWAYS get hit if it’s ex even if it stuffs the lp one. It’s beyond frustrating, I know how to practice the setup I just can’t get it.
Also off a backthrow what are the best setups? If I think they are going to lp srk I cross up with lk since it seems to stuff it. I’ve also just mk.df palm over them. Anything else good?
Almost forgot, when tokido does a df dive kick in the corner it almost always hits, Why? It’s an obvious cross up right?
It’s a special setup. After demon flip throw (in the corner), dash and then immediately medium demon flip dive kick. As you say, it’s an obvious crossup, but in reality you have to block it regularly. Thats why people get hit by it (unless they know the trick).
Cool, only one dash not two?
Watch Tokido. Off a DF throw in the corner, whiff a crouching medium then immediately go into demon flip. Off of forward throw whiff a s.fierce.
Trouble with baiting out reversals
So when I jump in to bait a reversal I will successfully bait it a couple times with a DF palm landing in front of them right as they are able to do their move. This could be something that is very hard to stuff like Guys EX whatever the hell that is called or a cammy cannon spike. Ive noticed that after a couple times I will land and they will grab me, so how would I go about implementing a grab after I land in between the time where they could possibly reversal and where I wouldnt get hit if they did and if they grabbed i would tech the throw. Im still kind of new to the game and all this frame data still kinda gets me confused so my theory would be that I wait about 3 frames…however long that is, and then just grab? But then what if they are late on the reversal? Its just confusing to me can someone help?
Whenever I do this I just fall in the space between the wall and the enemy and get grabbed EVERY time its really annoying I dont know what Im doing wrong…
If they block your DF kick, input your crouch tech so when they grab you it’ll be teched, if they block instead follow up your pressure after the cr. lk
