Akuma FAQs: Quick questions & answers!

Don’t ever, ever, ever do just a plain srk after a st. hk. St. hk forces stand so you can be doing way more damaging combos from such distance.

If I connect the st. hk from such a far distance. I usually just do the cr. mk and it basically resets the situation. If you have good judgement on the distance and character size, you can do cr. mk xx hk tatsu.

But if you like absolutely knowww your opponent is mashing out a reversal, then just do nothing. The distance is so far that they will not be able to FADC or anything, so you can just let them whiff and you get a full combo.

Why just a bare cr.mk? Wouldn’t it be better to atleast cancel it into an hadouken if it’s out of tatsu range?

It usually won’t combo (if we are assuming that it’s done at the distance where hk tatsu misses). So, good players will be able to FA absorb the fireball and dash forward, which leads to Akuma to getting butt raped.

I was trying to do the corner unblockable (forward throw, dash, dash, jump mk) but it just kept whiffing for me. Is it character specific, or is there some special timing or something?

Character specific. It’s unblockable for Ryu, Ken, and Makoto. Then there are some characters where it works in weird ways like against Chun and Akuma, who have to block it NOT crossup even though it’s an obvious looking crossup.

I don’t know if this is unblockable, but it seems to work often, is tatsu in the corner, to cr. lk for the reset, and j.lk. I don’t know if people don’t know how to block it, or what, but ive been having some success with it

Whenever I attempt to cancel out of an hadouken with an facd to continue the combo, it always gets blocked. Am I doing something wrong, or is the timing just really strict?

I’ve tried a variety of moves after the facd but all are blocked, even jabs; so surely I must be making some kind of mistake right?

The second I use the hadouken, I focus attack to cancel it, then cancel the focus attack with a dash and attempt to continue the combo but it fails; am I doing something wrong?

I know this sounds like pretty basic stuff but I always avoided cancelling special attacks until recently.

If they block you are doing the follow up too late. A small tip would be to use jab fireball instead of fierce fireball as that one travels a bit slower, giving you a little more leeway for the follow up.

Thanks, this makes sense but it never crossed my mind. I always had a feeling that it was to do with me not facding quickly enough.

You are not doing it fast enough. Plink to help get the timing better.

For example, do cr. mk xx hp fireball FADC and then crouch and piano the kicks to get a plinked sweep. Hk~mk~lk.

The lk doesn’t actually directly help plink the cr. hk, but it helps you successfully get the plink as well as having a natural flow and feeling to it.

^ Once you get this FADC combo down, I recommend putting the CPU to random block and in crouching position. Just do cr. mk xx fierball. If the cr. mk hits, FADC into sweep. If the cr. mk is blocked, then just don’t do anything.
(if the cr. mk is blocked but the fireball hits, you should not be FADC’ing. You are just hit confirming the cr. mk. You can however FADC in this situation but it’s rather difficult to react to.)

The jab fireball can help, but not by much; it actually can decrease your chances because it might not properly combo due to its slowness.

What’s most important is how soon in the FADC window you are cancelling and how smooth your FADC is. Since you haven’t practiced them until now, you will have trouble doing the links. I would say the way your are doing the FADC is the real problem. Practice it and eventually you will find a rythem that will get you smooth FADCs that you can link from.

Guys, (excuse the pun, you’ll see why in a second) this may be slightly off topic but I figure it’s better to ask here than create some random thread. Does Guy wakeup faster than most of the cast or something? Until now I assumed only Adon had faster wakeup, but after playing a B+ Guy player today, I felt really pressured as if I had hardly any time to set up my mixup game, whereas I feel I have all the time in the world against other characters.

It kinda threw out my timings because I wasn’t expecting it, then again it might just be my imagination.

Guy and Ibuku both wakeup a frame faster

Stupid question. How do I input the escape tatsu? I been trying for 30 minutes on practice mode and I can’t seem to get it at all. Can somebody please show me how it’s done.

U mean what is referred to as ‘cowardcopter’. Basically input ‘tatsu’, down back, as soon as you jump upwards. Practice by jumping upwards then tatsu just to get the feel of jumping into tatsu. (This isn’t ‘cowardcopter’ but so you know its timing and difference.) Now speed this up so that on jumping upwards/forwards you input ‘tatsu’ immediately and voila the ‘cowardcopter’ - escape tatsu - mostly used when corner trapped.

As for safe jumps against knockdowns, my rule of thumb, is to first go for a walk up throw. If your opponent techs then you are safe. Next time ‘dp’ his azz. However, if he mashes a ‘dp’ then do nothing next time and punish the mashed ‘dp’. From here on out it’s anyone’s guess but walk up throw is still a safer bet though opponent dependent. Good opponents will unlikely mash ‘dp’ so keep that in mind about safe jumping.

It’s also stupid to even try incorporating the cowardcopter into you gameplay at this point as its being removed from AE

Thanks for helping me out gyrosphere. I was playing a Gief player the other day and he had me trapped in the corner. He was waiting for me to teleport, so he punish with a cr. roundhouse. I was so frustrated that he destroyed in the match.

ClxJames Arcade Edition is still not here so I have to learn everything I can to win NOW.

Not really. AE isn’t out yet, so coward copter remains relevant to the game the bulk of us are still playing and likely will keep playing for a long time yet.

Glad to help. Hopefully you’ll get it, “cowardcopter”, down soon. As for Gief, once you get better and know this matchup, you’ll destroy him easily. One of the easier/easiest Gouki matchup imho.

Is it true that a reversal duck from Dudley, on his wake-up, beats Akuma’s demon-flip wake-up game?
