Fellow noob Akuma here - is something that needs to be plinked to bring the timing accuracy up?
It’s beneficial to plink for sure - just need to ensure you can still follow it up (Close fierce is fiercely negative on block and even unsafe on hit, without a special cancel you’ll eat a whole world of hurt).
nah it’s not plinking the problem xD It’s doing the motion of cr. to st. then hadouken (aka cr again) I always fail the hadouken in the combo
You probably start hurrying up too much and press the last punch input too early.
Just curious on what you guys think of the Akuma-Sim matchup? It feels much more difficult than a 6:4 in favour of Akuma especially when the Sim is able to keep Akuma out relatively easily. Knockdown is good for Akuma as always but I’d have to guess right on Sim’s wakeup of slide, block, backdash, teleport and yoga blast and is rather hard to get a solid vortex on him. Watching some clips of Tokido vs Fchamp, Tokido has always lost to Fchamp. The recent SCR 2013, Infiltration chose to take Hakan against Fchamp Sim aswell.
The matchup feels hard imo, wondering if you guys have any input on the matchup.
not at my level, but I think on top level, Akuma really have an easy time on Dhal Wake up. As far as you meaty + Os, what can he do to avoid having to block and defend the following throw/frame trap game ?
Now if you’re not a beast in frame trap / reads, good luck…
So 60% of the matchup is saving your life as much as you can while trying to get that KD. The rest is doing the most damage of what openings you got.
The good point is (obviously) Dhalsim wont hit you for a lot if you miss an Okizeme, unlike the other chars.
The 6-4 is only true in FT5-10, a single match will style be a horrible 2-8 because all he have to do is react while you need to predict. In long sets, you have opponent knowledge to back up your predictions.
Yea I guess thats how the Sim/Akuma matchup goes, but it is so much harder said than done. Toughest part for me is getting in really. I can spend my whole life bar trying to get in by demon flipping and air fireballing which doesnt really work, probably not a good thing lol…
It’s very slightly in Akuma’s favour, though Sim is well tooled to keep him out. Option selects are a must in this match if you wish to keep him locked down defensively, after which you need to apply some creative frame traps to break him. Sweep all tatsus without fail. Note that c.mp beats his limbs (hp) at the right range and is actually easier to place than one might think. Demonstrating that you can do this cuts his poking game down enough so you can manoeuvre at a distance.
Jump dive kick (d+mk) also beats out his limbs and is very useful at gaining ground. Block all ex Yoga fires and also be on the lookout for bad regular yoga fires from him and chop through with an HK tatsu. This gains a little damage, but lands you right next to him. Tic supers are also very helpful. Do not demon flip carelessly - he can swat you away at every range unless its sufficiently meaty. Depending on how capable the Sim is, I strongly recommend avoiding the urge to anti air with a DP as it is a text-book air-tele bait.
I can probably field some direct questions for you as this is the matchup I’ve played the most of in the SFIV series by far as my training buddy drives a wicked Dhalsim (and I also dabble with him from time to time). It’s a matchup I really enjoy as it asks Akuma players to get very creative with how they space themselves and mount an offensive.
People can be very dismissive of how well Sim can stand up to Akuma so I personally feel its important right out of the gate to respect Sim as an opponent. It does not take much for him to gain a significant life lead due to Akuma’s poor health combined with how well he can keep us at bay.
Also, exercise patience. This is obvious, but etch it into your brain. Patience, always. When you forego patience, you play right into Sim’s hands. Deny him this.
Is L. Tatsu to Sweep a move that only works on some characters in the game?
I can L. Tatsu Sweep Hakan, but not Ryu.
yeah it only works on some. there’s a list on here somewhere
I found this.
[YES] Akuma, Boxer, Cammy, Chun-Li, Claw (Vega), Dan, Dhalsim, Fei Long, Gouken, Guile, Honda, Rose, Sagat, Seth, Viper, Zangief
[NO] Abel, Blanka, Dictator (Bison), Fuerte, Gen, Ken, Rufus, Ryu
Too bad it’s not up to date with all of the AE characters though, that list hasn’t been updated since '09. I guess someone (maybe I) will go ahead and test it on the new characters and make an updated list.

Abel I usually classify as no since it’s not a common situation. Elf you can get pretty consistently.
whats the condition for elf again?

whats the condition for elf again?
Start from c.MP instead of s.HP. You can almost always space it properly to get the sweep to connect. Abel you need to do some really specific set ups to get the tatsu sweep. I usually just Jab Sweep him.
abel is just focus crumple and 3 c.mps, tatsu, sweep
