cheers for the helps guys. negative edge is bs… it explains so many of my fuck ups

Guyz how do you cancel far standing jab into lk tatsu ??
It’s a PITA and so handy against the big boyz.
The only way I found is :d: :db: :b: :lp: ~ :lk: but it’s damn hard to learn this move and insert in a string of crunch jabs or standing jab hit confirm…
the windows is so small to do it the regular way.

I usually do it by mistake! LOL

And more often than not, I seem to always do it against Ryu… Weird.

indeed I do it quite often online when screw up my plink in c:lk: c:lp: c:mp:~:lp: > lk tatsu but looks like Tokido use it like a real tool to add damages. I can go for standing jab into sweep but every way to go into a lk tatsu is welcome against those big boys like Sagat Abel Adon… where the standing jab hit from that far.

I used to do a lot of crouching jabs instead of standing when I wanted to cancel into lk.tatsu ( I still get that, but A LOT less than before lol), I now just do the standing jab while I totally leave the stick on neutral then quickly do the QCB motion and lk after connecting the jab.

I don’t know if that will help you at all, but I think you just have to be able to execute the QCB quickly enough which comes with practice.

whn I do that, I do the motion at the same time as the jab. since akuma has no move from :d:, :db:, :b:

Besides being able to sweep, what are some advantages to using standing jab instead?

  • It’s a 3 frame normal with good range so it’s amazing for punishing stuff, i.e Rog’s LP dash punch is -3 on block when you block it deep, you almost have no other way to punish it but to use far jab (well maybe super would work too), the range helps a lot to punish stuff like Abel’s wheel kick too.

  • It’s +4 on block and it works vs some characters with huge hitboxes even when crouching like Sagat.

It isn’t that it’s range is great it is that against characters with large upper hit boxes it is great for hitting.

Wow, iv’e been missing out on the st.lp action! Thanks for the quick reply, i had a feeling i was missing some of the simpler things like this.

loop is still doable btw ? I just can’t link any st:lp: to st:hk:
Sagat Adon, no luck…

As for st jab, this move hits big characters standing from a huge range and don’t push em far like :mp: does, thus guaranty a proper lk tatsu to connect full, but also in some weird position where you shouldn’t hit. like st:lk: do. They only hit a hitstun box, not a neutral state hitbox.

Loop is gone unless in some very space & hitbox specific situations. Far roundhouse is an 8 frame normal, far standing jab is +7 on hit but has 2 active frames, so the only way to be able to link a far roundhouse after is if you connected the far standing jab on it’s 2nd active frame to have a total of +8 frame advantage and you’ll be able to link a far roundhouse after (it’s a 1 frame link obviously).

You can space your strings in a certain way to connect the far jab on it’s 2nd active frame, i.e vs Vega earlier today I tried cr.lk, s.lk, cr.lk, fs.lp, fs.hk and it worked. I think it works best vs Honda and Adon, I don’t use it myself but you can watch some videos of -6’s Akuma who goes for this link whenever he can lol.

Absolutely I saw -6 playing with it a lot.
Tks for the analysis I understand the thing way more now.

What’s a simple way to understand the sweep option select raging demon. I’m pad player if that makes any difference

Hey all i spent the past week or so trying to learn akuma, really its just been a mix of arcade mode a bit of training and reading the posts in the akuma section. So i havent really been going at it to intensly yet but i was hoping to pick up the basics and such before SFxT comes out (realise its a diff engine and such i plan to still play AE). I was wondering if anyone knows of any guides or youtube channels i could check out that help me with the b&b’s and fundamentals of akuma? like where i should start, ive been reading through the combo pages and faqs on here but alot of it was posted years ago and i dont know what still stands in AE now  Thanks for the help guys in advance i did check youtube but it didnt come back with anything :frowning:

That’s not an option select, you’re buffering 2 jabs along with your sweep and only complete the motion on reaction to cancel into U1 to punish focus or jump-in attempts.

I’ve only had to negative edge st. FP xx DF Kick/Throw/Palm. I usually don’t get negative edge’d for anything else. But yeah, to anyone asking about: Just hold fierce punch as you perform the motion and input for the DF Kick.

this maybe : http://ssf4tutorialvideos.blogspot.com/
Also look for Vids from Lord of Ultima on youtube

My worst negative edge of all time is the damn shaku when I cancel to tatsu…
:lp:, :mp:~:lp: xx lk tatsu I fail so hard in holding those 2 punches long enough…

Just in case that mean :lp: + :hk:, :lp: + :hk: instead of just doing :hk:, watch opponent reaction on the sweep and :b::lk::hp: for demon.
you can use it to punish focuses but also those that use to punish your unsafe close sweep on block with a sweep.
