i think you’re assuming a lot of things here. how do you know it’s cake if your absolute best example shows you doing 4 reps (with countless other mistakes that would’ve got you owned)
also, the 4 correctly-done ones plus the forward jumping one at the end combined to do about 3% chip damage. you’re a lot more likely to time out a round than chipping somebody to death, and even that would be a feat
seriously. i don’t see any serious tournament player trying more than a couple reps of this. why would you potentially give up akuma’s defensive game for a risky chance to get less than 1% of pseudo-guaranteed chip damage?
I think it’s obvious from the abundance of posts that we need to see more conclusive evidence. From what I saw in the video, there were a few times where I would’ve stuck a Tiger Uppercut in there. Still, like RSX said, he’s using a pad and having been up for 40+ hours.
So, after all that, we need a better demonstration of this. (No offense, RSX.) If you can do it, by all means do it and post it. More…input!
I’m not super knowledgeable at this game, but does it need to actually lockdown the opponent? If it gives them pretty much no time to reverse “when done correctly” then couldn’t it be used to setup the person for a throw/retreat/RD trap. Each AFB builds akuma’s meter, and getting them to crouch block it would give him a RD chance. Not to mention he could jump back into defense mode, or jump forward into offense mode.
Maybe it shouldn’t be applied as a lockdown, but as a mixup/meter building tactic.
Right, this builds super meter and allows Akuma to do his cr. foward combos if you block high or unstopable raging demon if you block low. As noted before, you can alos use this to time out a round if you wanted. Some people have suggested letting the hadoken hit you, screwing up their rythm, but I believe that just leaves you open for cr. forward combos again which do alot of damage. With this corner lockdown taken with Akuma on the whole, there is no way you can deny that he is the strongest character in the game. Patch him or ban him.
Lol, if you had godlike reaction, you could use it when you are just one or two fireballs away from super, and wait for them to block it low so you can RD their ass
It seemed to me like it would be easier on a pad/keyboard because IMO it’s easier to go from toward to neutral to up without hitting up-toward. My pad method: do an empty QCF with the analog stick, then hold up on the d-pad and wait until Akuma’s prejump frames are over, then press P.
But yeah, it looks like all this does is make the trap tighter, but still not airtight.
man, people are so quick with their torches and pitchforks. let’s wait until we see one instance of somebody getting locked down for at least 25% life (less than a thawk spd which many chars cant escape either) before we start bawling here
25% life is about 25 reps of this thing. good luck
All I’m gonna say is his corner game got alot gayer, even if you can only do a couple reps of this at a time, its enough to set up alot of shit for those like Gief who cant do anything.
Let’s just say I use Zangief and I’m not terribly concerned. Yes, Akuma almost locks Gief down in the corner whether you use this tactic or not. I suck it up and keep playing. After playing 3S Oro vs Chun for 5+ years, you learn to just accept the disadvantage.
I will need to play against this to really know what its like (not that I am a good measure) but it looked reversable to me from the video. Hopefully someone can exhaust all possibilities and we can really figure out what is going on.
You could say this about a lot of matchups. Sim vs. Bison. Non-pro Bisons have issues in the corner against Sim. Even pros have trouble dealing with drill corner lockdown.
LOL… I could go get sandwich and a beer with the amount of time it would take to drain a life bar with this technique. Not gonna happen in real world play. Anyway, Akuma has far more effective setups than this, so whatever.
Although if some online idot with a programmable controller got a hold of this it would be funny to watch people try to get out of it… lol
Lockdown or not doesn’t matter IMO. His bullshit hitboxes (j.rh, st.fierce, st.forward, both red/blue fireballs, jab dp) should make him ban-worthy already.
