You can hope that hugo will crush rolento, but that match is really and I mean really hard. If hugo gets in then it’s hard for rolento to get out because he has no escape but getting in is the hardest part.

I think a big part of his game to get in is the use of neutral jumping vs j.HP/j.LP (is j.MP look the same?).

I see in a lot of videos people over estimate his empty jump range and end up doing HP DP that gets blocked.

A well timed j.HP can pretty much cover half the screen that should give you a lot of room to encourage anti-airing Hugo, while empty jump will mess that up. Obviously your jump gotta be good to start with else you’ll just have one button that beats both options.

Sounds like Giefs shortjump baiting… just with a regular jump (due to Hugos Long-reaching air normals) :smiley:

Wtf is this nonsense about not being able to punish mp DB with HP Clap?

Of course its possible, just do it while they are falling down.

Both ken and ryus medium and heavy shoryuken is -30 atleast on block, so i can’t see any problems with punishing it. Maybe you have to consider the time for you to react with a punish. Medium Palm to ex palm , lp palm, cr lk xx lariat seems nice.

What he meant was, landing the hp Clap as the opponent lands on the ground to further combo into more claps and finish with cr.lp, lariat. Otherwise you only get hp clap (juggles) into backbreaker / U2

Can you RFADC the LP.Clap at the end of the combo and then go for the combo again?

I don’t think you have time to land anything but LP clap after a crumple, maybe MP. It’s worth a test though.

Also, I’m quite sure I saw someone cancel clap into Suepr with him on EH lately, so I guess that means clap xx EX RFA works. Would be nice to get it confirmed though.

I really don’t know why people do stupid online tactics. Seriously, nothing but a bunch of stupid scrubby try hards. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Blanka, hop, cr.lk xx electricity, repeat.

Quick list on what i could try out:

Claps:
Claps red-/focus cancelable?
Yes they are, lp clap into redfocus DOES work

EX Clap to MP Clap repeatable? (semi infinite?)
Couldnt get it down, timing on clap seems really strict, not as smooth as 3S Clap chains

Ultra Throw:
special properties?
We tried Hugo U1 vs EX Ultra Throw, UT got beaten clean. There only seems to be more range, maybe slightly faster

Backbreaker:
No question, but it punishes backdashes on really good ranges (not only point blank where you would expect it)

Meatsquasher:
*- lowprofilable? sweepable? *
nope, armor absorbed all atempts to beat ex meatsquasher, normal MS is free to punish

- EX Meatsquasher -> U2?
maybe, got it only once to actually come out and it whiffed on poison, i seriously doubt it

Lariat:
Infinite armor?
Yes, walked right through an Ultra 2 from Sagat, builds really good meter. Also walks right through any two-hit normals (like adons f.st.hk)
BUT late ex uppercut from sagat has beaten it 1-2 times. Probably isnt worth the risk on sagats/opponents side but it IS possible.

Normals:

seriously, this thing beats everything that tries to come at you from above and isnt armorbreaking, godlike move.
btw, Sagats st. hk and fw. hk gets beaten clean by hugos st. hp. You can also focus absorb through “poke fireball” and hit him out of the recovery.
very seducing to spam this button, but range is quite short for footsies, anticipate longrange footsies correctly to become god with this button.

Superjump from SFxTK available?
nope, nothing.

It MAY be possible to link something after, but it is way too telegraphed, no one decent would ever fall for it I guess

- early hopkick avoids some wakeups?
Some as above, it is too telegraphed and you can get hit out of it cleanly with any halfdecent reversal

Super:
- Superstop available?
yes, 2x qcf + p (hold) will stop hugo right before the opponent
- Superstop -> U1?
Again, possible,but really unlikely because the stop actually takes some time and people jump / or dash away once the super doesnt "hit"
btw, the super itself is no true blockstring, got reversal spd’ed out of it
- Super-> U2? (corner only?)
Tried it, but whiffed, maybe timing was off

little extra here:
We tried Super punish against poisons fireballs, it doesnt really work that well. Full screen isnt possible at all (inv. wears off too fast and hugo is too wide, at least for her projectile)
If Hugo stands right under the clock and times his super good, he can walk through and punish her.
Characters with bad recovery may still be punishable on reaction with super, but it isnt as braindead as some would guess.
Super doesnt seem to have special properties depending on button press, all version are projectile / hit inv. for a certain amount of frames (3-11 was it?)

Ultra 1:
does really good damage, just as every grapplers U1 :slight_smile:

Ultra 2:
can punish TONS of stuff that is considered airborne in recovery
has problems against anything that is directly above him, characters like yun with long range punishes can punish it for free, probably into big damage, careful.

**Overall: **
His damage is really frightening. He has really got footsie tools. Once you get into midrange on sagat it becomes really balanced again.
Even though his normals are really good (and damaging) dont overuse them, recovery is generally really long (cr.hp seems completely useless, cr. hk whiffes on backdashers)
His Healthpool looks decent enough, always keep an eye on your life, dont focus too much (also very seducing since many of his moves do have focus)
Your Inputs should be on point, else you will have trouble at first with him.
Also; again, his clap combos SEEM to be harder than they were in 3S, really really weird timing, we tried to chain them and tried to link them. Feels off somehow, maybe first-day-syndrome, who knows.

Im really hyped for Hugo tbh, only a week left.

What’ the startup on HP Clap? Can you connect it after a jumping HK (the same way that Ryu’s U1 has terrible startup but can be connected after j.HK due to the good hitstun of the air attack).

I don’t think so, since Ryus U1 has a startup of 11 frames, and HP clap is slower than the MP clap (19 frames), you cannot link it. I think the HP clap has about… 23 or so startup frames? Im just guessing tho.
And that’s why you gotta capitalize on your opponents mistakes with hugo, you can’t really hitconfirm much. a cr lk/cr jab to Lariat, on counterhit to a EX/LP clap i think.

He will certainly be interesting.

I wonder how good his jump hk is tho, if you would knock him out of the move with a trade, on counterhit it must have alot of hitstun!
