You guys are all happy about the Hugo changes, while I don’t like them that much.
My whole theory game plan has been butchered lol. I was going to use a lot of strings in to ultra throw, and use the clap to train them in to not jumping. Ex ultra throw had GREAT range and lead to a combo that let Hugo gain back 90% of the bar he spent, but they nerfed both the range and the meter gain.
Also, even though it wasn’t in the arcade build, Hugo had combos from c.lk xx ex clap in a version that Combofiend showed off, but that seems to have been removed as well.
And the super nerf is HUGE, but I can see why it had to be changed.
All in all I don’t see Hugo as much better because of these changes. Maybe a little more easy to do well with though
Yeh we lost some stuff, but as korbidon said hugo got better tools to help open up those more difficult matches.
The super nerf was a needed one, it was for all intents a comboable super off a lk that could go through fireballs and did 540 damage on its own ( I count bb as part of the super because you are going to do the bb followup every time) that’s more than any maxed ultra in the game.
For me it had too much sway on matches from both hugos and his opponents perspective, on the flip side the super is now far better, it has better invincibility and it no longer causes the opponent to fall out when they airborne (new combos off UT or other hits such a AA forward ST.Hp?)
I suspect his ultra throw reduction was due to how incredible his kara (clap) ex UT range was, that’s not even including his dash/ focus dash into the mix
Wasn’t ST.lk into ex clap only on counter hit? I’m sure there was a vid a few pages back that showed this in action the one where the poster declared he was the best hugo he’d seen.
It’s obvious they nerfed the range of UT so that it wouldn’t be our only cmd grab. Before the was really no reason to use anything but UT. UT wasn’t that much slower, it had much larger range, it could combo.
No doubt it will still be useful. It’ll still probably be my more used along with MS unless Moonsault is my only way to punish the move just because I rather have corner or combos than just a little damage.
Keep in mind ut is probably the slower throw so there is a reason for spd… Especially for block punishes but then again spd used to be 3 frames and I think ut was like 4
Man I’ve been playing hugo a lot this weekend. I just wanna say he’s really fucking good. I’ll make a post later about it. This is the final build by the way. Just some things to get you excited.
Short lariat does not move and if you whiff 6 of them it builds one bar.
EX shoot down back breaker is good it does not trade anymore like it used to.
Stand heavy punch is good also, it stops the opponent so that when you hit them they get knocked to the ground. So target combos won’t beat it. Neither will rolentos jump mp.
Corn Alucard has the best hugo I’ve seen all weekend. He’s really good and beat valle in a long set vs rolento which I think is in rolentos favor.
His ex lariat can be used as an anti air and If it hits you can shoot down back breaker someone after it for 300 damage.
Also a lot of top players are not liking their characters or the game. Wolf krone hates it and PR Balrog hates balrog.
Hardest matchup might be Ibuki, poison, and rolento. If you have questions post here and I’ll answer them later.
I have a coupla questions if you ever get the chance:
–is standing HK an overhead? Does it whiff on crouchers?
–EX meatsquasher still have armor?
–how is hugo faring against zoners with the new armor buffs?
Ultradavid state ex lariat is -5/-4 what I want to know is how is it if you fadc it forward or back. Also if anyone else knows what happens if Gouken does his demon flip focus against backbreaker.
It’s also not really that surprising that wolfkrone hates it he jumps to conclusions real fast. Also PR has been trying to change characters for a few months now.
Although I’ve noticed a lot of players who didn’t like what was changed about their chars.
