“what is the bare minimum we need to give these characters to make them interesting?” Isn’t a particularly good design. I mean there is overdoing and then there is under doing it.
So all characters are running with heavy nerfs? What on earth is this nerfed character version supposed to show the devs?
Drawing conclusions based upon match ups where both characters have been changed fundamentally is just shooting in the dark unless they are only nerfing a few at a time to test their viability against standard power characters, I suppose we will see if the next loc test shows a different set nerfed.
Saying that Hugo lacking those tools seems weaker than his 3S counterpart, I just hope that the devs are taking him seriously and not setting him up to be a ‘ho ho ho joke’ character like dan used to be (as a dev myself that sort of balance thinking makes me want to punch kittens)
What does dawg/combo have to any about this version, if anything?
well, i may confront them about the seth upset, but i have absolutely no clue about the character. I just thought capcom wanted to make seth more “honest” and less constant-read (a.k.a. luck?) based.
Hope they can come up with an answer you guys can enjoy… anyway, im there for hugo
The issue isn’t how good he is, it’s how fun it is. They keep removing or weaken his unique tools to the point that I don’t think anyone can enjoy playing him anymore. He needs buffs that give him more meh or slightly better options, making him more fun without making him better. For example, maybe allow him to cross-up with nj.MK or combo cl.HP into EX Tanden.
Well, Seth isnt to be discussed here actually
But just a little to think about, Seth is VERY difficult to balance right, because he has (almost?) every tool that is in the game, teleports, spd, fireball, shoruyken, usefull armorbreaker (that is part of his BnB), stompkicks, divekicks, walljump, long arms, normal antiairs, air-to-air juggles and probably even more i cant come up with now.
The problem is just, to adjust these things in a way, they are still reasonable to be combined in one character. Seth’ uppercut wont ever be as good as ryus, his fireball nowhere near sagat/guile level etc.
His tools are weaker, because he has so many tools. He doesnt NEED to dragon punch someone out of the air, he could also teleport away or hit the opponent out of the air with some of his potent air normals.
Originally, capcom tried to balance that with lowlife only, which didnt really work out, so they game him more life and nerfed his tools.
And now that the game changed to a more footsie-based metagame (probably), Seth needs to be tweeked to work in this situation. And sadly, capcom forces their way with Seth with nerfing seth’ stun output, thus players cant (hopefully “wont”, i guess) rely on his gimmicks and constant 50/50 like he did in all the past iterations of sf4. I get the feeling capcom tried to make seth really an all around character, yet his mixup is so great that people only ever concentrated on that aspect of his style.
Seth actually has footsies, it’s just that his walkspeed is not as good to adjust to the opponents position, yet he has the normals, e.g. a great light and medium kick as well as a long range poke with st. heavy punch.
But as I said, this is just from a “non-seth player” perspective trying to understand what capcom tries to do with this character. Im not going any further in this discussion since it’s very offtopic.
I simply told you what my argument is if they say “He’s still good” if you push them about it. (Also they have continously nerfed all his FUN tools, like stomp, teleport, divekick, wall-jump, j.HK, nj.HP, U2, tanden etc).
On the note of Hugo, I really wonder how the JP looks on his claps. I can’t make sense of it right now, especially EX clap. It’s probably something like:
1st: JP1* - Stun - Float
2nd: JP1 - Stun - Float
So after the first EX clap, JC is 1, then the 2nd EX clap raises it to JC2, then U2 has at least JP2. Since UT, EX Clapx2, U2 apparently works as well, it can’t really be related to the 2nd hit having retain JC, unless both EX clap and U2 have more JP.
Fuuuck, im worried about hugo. Combofiend and the others has seen the footage, that hugo has problem getting in. Apparently in that last clip, hugo didn’t have his armor on his st HP. I hope they won’t nerf his claps or super, don’t nerf him at all pls.
He needs a bunch of that stuff.
16-17 days to go.
@ Doopliss So, if a character would float high enough after each clap, maybe you could juggle your opponent in the corner like goukens EX fireballs/fireball ?
Maybe it works so that hugo can spend his whole superbar on ex claps in the corner?..
I haven’t really read up on this matter tho. Interesting tho :).
its only the digital release, if this was the hard copy i would have said thats him done and dusted, but with the digital they have the option to balance a lot closer to the deadline than with a hard copy.
I can’t stand to see Hugo getting his shit wrecked by an asian midget.
All those tools he had in the arcade version made him viable and now he’s back to being worthless just like every other grappler. I hate this shit. He’d better have some good stuff left or the hell I’m buying this awful game.
