AHM NUMBAH WAN - Hugo USF4 thread

His super’s been nerfed to 300 damage based on that vid.

Hopefully this vid will put fears to rest that the back breaker followup to the super is still valid

Wasn’t it always 300? I think backbreaker did more than 100 before though.

I don’t really know, but super->hk BB has gotten a damage nerf it seems (Still does tons though). And as you said: st.mp for 120 damage is insane… but did you think about the meat squasher ->st.mp comb? So Hugo does 320 damage if he lands meat squasher and ends up with he opponent in the corner.

I doubt he’ll keep that combo, but I really hope he does.

Maybe they let him have it, but does it work on all characters? I think it’s character specific. Seen a few vids where the hugo player tried the far mp after meat squasher, and he missed it every time, i don’t remember which character it was tho.

Was BB ever only 100 damage tops? (Looks like I does more in the various hugo arcade vids, confirm?) If so the meatsquasher with st.Mp follow is now better damage wise than the ultra throw + followups (minus ex/ultra ofc)

Im wondering what has prompted the devs into nerfing hugos damage if this turns out to be the case, it’s not like he’s been utterly dominating at the arcades.

The difference being Ultra throw + followups gives you a better position than MS into St.mp (which might not stay/work on every character or corner reliant)
Maybe they felt that his damage wasn’t right compared to other grapplers who don’t get the same amount of damage nor have as long of range of normals.
Although his confirms aren’t really that great compared to his pokes seeing as he really only has jabxn as a combo if he’s not in your face to do Lariat.

It’s only the post super one that deals 100. I think HK BB is at like 200.

MQ is never corner reliant, since it forces you into the corner :stuck_out_tongue:

On that note, I wish Hugo would turn and run to the nearest corner instead of always running fullscreen. He used to be able to turn in 3S.

I remember them saying they would change it to be like that but I guess they couldn’t find how to do it in the SF4 engine.

Sorry missed the word more out in my comment about BB in the arcades, so they artificially limited the damage of the post super back breaker?

I dunno, I kinda like carrying people across the whole screen. Let that sinking feeling REALLY set in.

I meant more along the lines of which corner you end up in could be a factor. It probably isn’t, but theres always a chance.

And on that I would like St.mp to be focus cancel-able so I can do shenanigans into cmd grabs.

The reason why Hugo can’t turn to the nearest corner is because he haven’t yet learn to do this yet. Keep in mind 3s timeline is after sf4 :stuck_out_tongue:

How the fuck? I was about to make this EXACT joke. GOD FUCKING DAMNIT.

they nerfed the super damage :frowning:

Heaven forbid there are strong supers in the game

We can deal with 450-500 damage ultras EVERY round but no way are 400+ damage supers once PER MATCH while also preventing the use of EX specials during the entire time considered “ok”

eye roll

The problems begin when you have both at your disposal. I always said that ultras should be nerfed and supers buffed though.

Shoryuken front page pretty much confirms our suspicions

Looks like BB followup automatically loses 100 damage when used after the super :frowning:

My thinking is the devs simply don’t want hugos entire strategy for every fight to revolve around building up super bar for the super.

I’m hoping that they have compensated him in other areas to make up for this loss of damage.

I’m pretty sure they haven’t artificially tweaked super > U2 as at 1:30 in dawgs vid there is an indicator that hugo can do a 12 hit combo that does 621 damage.

Would be cool if someone could tweet dawg to see if he knows the actual reasoning for hugos nerf

Update

Just reading the source of the comparison vid and it has a list of noticed changes for the characters

Hugo

  • Les « Claps » peuvent plus facilement être enchaînes. (Vryu)
  • Le combo « Tornado Throw + pied » ~ « Clap EX » ~ « Clap EX » ~ Ultra 2 est possible. (Vryu)
  • Seule la version forte de la Super peut passer à travers les projectiles. (VSFTV|Dhrus)
  • La Super prend désormais en compte la réduction des dégâts (damage reduce). (VSFTV|Dhrus)
  • Corde a linge EX absorbe 3 hit. (Ultrayox)

It’s the bottom one that interests me the most, an ex move that can now absorb 3 hits, the clothesline or his palm bomber? If we could get a reliable translation (google translate doesn’t cut the mustard this time unfortunately).

Super can be linked to U2 as well right? I remember seeing this in earlier builds
