AHHH bad spray!

i been trying to do bad spray for a good 2 hours now and NOOO luck!..what can i possibly be doing wrong guys?

on a techable knockdown, just hold up and hit punch – piano, mash, whatever.

it has to be a techable knockdown.

whats a techable knowdown

when you are knocked down, but you can stand up right away if you press buttons/move around/mash as hard as you can. For the most part, you can only tech knockdowns caused by special moves, but not by sweeps/moves that cause juggles states.

i dont use bad spary at all. i need to try and remember to use it. does this move auto correct? when is a good time to use it? when they are doing empty jump? so many questions lol

not sure if it auto corrects (i’d imagine it does). it’s risky because if they block it, you are very punishable for it. basically, it’s nice to do every once in a while, but it’s just bad business when people start expecting it. you’re better off either just blocking or using an EX Zonk, which has a strict timing (if you let go too early, nothing happens and you’re in trouble. if you let go too late, it might not come out quick enough to counter whatever they are hitting you with).

but as of right now, Cody has bad wake-up options. The only semi-decent escape option other than blocking is to forward dash if they are jumping in (usually for a cross-up). Beyond that, just deal with blocking and wait for an opening.

Right now spray feel more like a nostalga move from A3 days other than that I don’t see it as a valuable move to keep in your mind when he’s got so many others to choose from.

What would you say his best move on recovery is?

heres how i think of it.

its almost no different from a reversal dp/invincible move in terms of making a gamble to get out of pressure situation. sure its not as good and you probably can’t fadc it, but it’ll come in handy at times.

if people are starting to expect it/bait it, good. that means they’re now wary of it and won’t be as relentless in their offense after they knock you down. anything that relieves pressure from your opponent helps.

blocking

iI think I’ve only used Bad Spray about 5 times for the week I had the game. But each time, I hit with it. Basically what Ouroborus said.

I wish Bad Spray was more useful in general. It would have been nice if Capcom could have given Cody SOMETHING to wake up with in the form of a dragon punch/shoryuken. I’d even settle for a command grab lol. Having to be super good on blocking, teching, and knowing where the opponent is going on a cross up is serious work for a Cody player.

I can hold my own with him, but I really hope if Capcom ever updates the game when the arcade version hits, and they do tweaks/add in DLC characters, that Cody gets a DP ability. I’d be super thankful. :stuck_out_tongue:

While I feel the pain of not having a great wakeup tool just like any other Cody player…I don’t just think every character should get a dragon punch move. Reversals in this game are already so easy to do and they pollute so much of the game time that I’m always hesitant to have more characters really hopping on this band wagon. On top of that, think about just what a tame shoryuken (let’s say a light dp) would do for him. He can not only create a wall in front of himself, throw light projectiles quickly and combo after them, have access to one of the best release commands in the game, and support himself with an awesome front-dash + ruffian kick for offensive movement…etc. He’s really good. For the extreme strengths he has, he deserves a weakness.

Cody can control ground position in a similar manner like Guile ( although Guile is more of turtle than zoner), and both are difficult to get close too. Both have weak defences in wake up and vs cross ups.

The only difference is Guile have access to Flash kick FADC for 2 bars, while cody has EX zonk FADC for 3 bars.

Good control and great offense game is what Cody rule, wake up positions is what cody is weak at.

Play your strengths, try as much to not be in bad positions, and keep on the control at your grip. That is how Cody rolls (I guess…).

i really wish normal bingo was FADC’able – i remember in earlier builds ALL of his moves were FADC’able…

Oh god, if Reg Bingo was FADCable I would Die a happy man.

my only problem with the spray, is that even if it hits, u recover slow enough to still have to deal with a problem

It wasn’t so clear before, but in order to do this, when you get hit by something that allows you to do a quick get up, as soon as you hit the floor you press U+P. You shouldn’t have to mash it.
Before, I was actually doing the quick get up then mashing U+P. Doesn’t work that way. And mashing the punches makes Cody sometimes do a quick get up without doing the bad spray.

its not perfect, but to deal with cross-ups/jump in’s i usually hit focus attack and backdash quick enough to escape out into a block, and if i can inticepate the next attack, i use ex zonk into ultra

its really tricky though, and the auto correct will fail u alot

good luck!

it’s usefull against those that are too close to you and attack the instant you wake up.
