I’m down for the games on Tuesday. Megaman and Castlevania make me nut! lol. Oh, there’s more of that on Thursday as well. Aside from that, I’m excited for the TAS run of Ikaruga. That game used to make me dream of absorbing pellets.
Big Jon running SNES version of lost Levels this time. Still sucks Golf can’t get in.
X8 and X2 races are going to be great.
I’m not as excited for Ikaruga TAS because I feel they rejected the two actual shmup players because that was submitted. It should still be a fun watch though, and we did get a bit of shmup shine at other events like Stunfest. I’m really glad Eschatos got some live audience exposure.
Why do people complain about this every year? Cutting a 40hr game to 6hrs is still impressive. Boring maybe, but fuck it, watch what you want. I dont mind tuning in periodically and seeing some cool 2 or 3hr skips then dipping out the stream
It’s a legit complaint seeing as how other games with much more potential are being cut out. For every one RPG, 5 other games that could have been waaaaaaaaaay more entertaining get the cut. This also effects their community as well.
RPG speed runs are far from impressive (unless it’s a wrpg).
Many reasons add to why that is. People apply to be able to run. And those"entertaining" games might have not gotten any qualified runners this year. Dustforce wasnt at AGDQ. I had to hold dat. Its here now. Plus in the end it is a charity stream. I wanna see DMC3 again, P* games, and some other shit not there, but, Ill just watch games or runners I do actually like and donate. For the children.
Son Caveman was being mad anti-social, but that other guy was being annoying. I guess speedrunning games with no social interaction at all does that to ya
The real reason they do RPGs is because of donation incentives.
RPGS are long, tend to have a fuck ton of shit you can have for donation (Do this, or that type shit), and it gives other games donation incentives time to build up because the shit lasts a day.
Why are they doing the thing they do every year? Cant wait for next year when they do exactly the same stuff they did this year so i can pretend to be surprised they are still putting rpgs in the lineup.
And being serious here. A -lot- of the speedrunners I’ve seen on twitch are -extremely- bitchy/whinny oh gawd I’m going to keep blaming the game, rng, the controller, the lag, etc etc for that person sucking at the game. Let’s reset 983942432342342342342398923742893 times because I lost 0.000000001 seconds on a bad Air Man fight. Constant rage too. Maybe if they didn’t do all this they would be better at the games. And I mean even the more popular ones with sub buttons and whatever. Yeah I can see it being part of the gimmick to make that twitch money too as well. I have noticed a lot of the world record holders don’t do these things too. Like the Castlevania 4 WR holder for example.
Just something I’ve wanted to say for a while here. They put a LOT of unnecessary stress on themselves which causes them to do worse at the games. And yes I’ve tried speedrunning some myself with Mega Man 3 and others. It honestly takes the fun out of playing the games for me.
Not resetting is hard sometimes though haha. Most guys do bitch too much, 100% no argument. A lot of these guys are just bad at talking /interacting with people period, that’s why when there is a personable speedrunner its like seeing a unicorn haha
In case you’re curious, I just google “reddit AGDQ 2015 VODs”, replace year and event for past events, e.g. “SGDQ 2014 VODs”
I’m glad a lot more people are into this!
I remember way back when posting about this and there were less fewer of us. /Baratheon auto correct
So as far as RPGs go, I’m not all that into most, especially FF style battles.
If they’re live battles kind of like Secret of Mana or Star Ocean, it can at least be a bit exciting to watch them deal with real time shit.
