Sometimes they do, it depends on the RPG. More often than not, it’s about skipping event flags though.

So the guy playing Tomba wasn’t the dude that was twittering about buying condoms? I thought the bowl haircut kid was mocking the dude and saying subtle innuendos or something, which I thought at first and it was kind of funny even though nothing made sense to me. Can some one tell the story about the condoms and why this kid was being obnoxiously annoying to the dude playing the game?
To be fair these things usually have nothing interesting being said by either the very bored person calling out donations or the actual player.
So it was cool someone was trying, even though he was kind of a dick in doing so.
I’d love to be the donation caller at a thing like this, I know I could do a good job at mixing up what’s being said. Seems like a job they get stuck with not something they want to do.
I find most of the commentary quite interesting as it is usually about quirks involving the game.
How you gonna mix up the donation calls? You just read the donation and the tweet 
By replying! By not just saying it but saying it with some flair, someone paid money to have that be read make it worth it.
I’d also probably pull someone who knows the game in with me to answer questions about what’s happening when the player isn’t talking, maybe get the upcoming player into my area to question them about the upcoming run during the credits or a break if I can.
The commentary is interesting when they talk about the game but unless someone like trihex is on the couch it’s about 60-70% dead air and that’s with donation calls included.
