After 10 Years , Is MVC3 A Worthy Sequel to MVC2?

currently, no. its a fun pile of crap for many reasons already noted since fucking like evo build up until now.

no need to go into details at this point, but on some base level shit, you have most of the good (intermediate to advanced level) vs game players thinking its trash, then a nice handful who think its pretty trashy, but fun enough to stick around for the patch, and like one handful who are like, its fine, just gotta work around stuff.

im almost scared for the patch to fuck the game up because of how shitty the og version of it currently is. like they clearly dont know what theyre doing at all over there.

the game brought me out of fg retirement. It’s more than worthy.

have you seen marvel 2 videos a year after launch?

Ban Iceman guys, he’s broken :frowning:

I’m not an highly skilled FG player. so my point of view is based on poor level play.

For me, MvC2 is much better in terms of…nothing!!!

In MvC 3, action is more readable, character seems more balanced, playing different characters is enjoyable as many share the same mechanics, more than in MvC 2. Damage output is good for me, you need to stay alert all the time and comeback is easier, round faster. X-factor is good i think (execpt for the damagescaling reset): it’s necessary to learn how to defend.

Maybe for high level players damage seems a lot because a combo take half of the life, but it’s not a problem for me with my 1/3 of life combo. And i think it’s more important to focus on how to avoid and go into that combo than bitching about them.

I’m loving mvc3 allot, however the competitive feel can’t seem to match mvc2 for me. MVC3, while fun, just seems like a noob/scrub can actually compete against a real competitive player. MVC3 is just too brain dead easy in comparison to two, the guy that said “you can kill of 2 combo chains” is actually right. It’s possible, i’ve managed to kill trishs’, spidey’s etc with zero’s basic combo very easily.

The learning curve of mvc3 is just a bit “kidish” to me. MVC2’s learning curve was definitely higher.

MVC2 was much more of a fighting game to me because the skills, the science, etc took time and experience. I loved the art of MVC2 also; ten times more than MVC3’s art… the winning screen of MVC2 was one of the reasons i started falling in love with the game.

Meh back then and Meh now. I just got this game because there really wasn’t anything else coming out for a while when it was released.

“Urban Dictionary. Meh. Indifference; to be used when one simply does not care.”

I really don’t how you can see all the mechanics and subtility of a game in two weeks. MvC 2 seems like a brain dead game at the beggining

You want a slower, more boring game with more time outs?

Marvel vs Capcom 3 isn’t a sequel. Its just another game.

I’m content with the game for now. I bet it will be pretty competitive like mvc2 after we figure it all out.

I’m happy that trap/distance teams aren’t as big a part of the game and I hope it stays like that.

so far i don’t like the game like that but i’m trying to have an open mind and i’m trying not to compare it to any other vs game.

After 10 years, is MVC3 a worthy sequel to MVC2?

Presently the short answer is no.

MVC3 is a really fun, great game that has a long way of developing and expanding to reach the pinnacle that was MVC2. Gamers comparing MVC3 to MVC2 are right to do so. I don’t expect the same game or even the same engine, but I do expect the same amount of depth and ingenuity.

In it’s current form MVC3 is pretty darn good. If it get patched and the engine gets tweaked we could really see some fantastic things from this game. Until then MvC2 will remain a better game.

This game is truly a sequel… to tatsunoko vs capcom. The game itself is alright but it needs spectator mode. There’s nothing exciting about two rectangles going at it.

There was a sequel to MvC2? Oh hell yeah! I need to get myself a copy!

To be honest…too early for a striaght answer.
I’ll let you know in 10 years though.

I hated MvC2 when it first came out on the Dreamcast…mostly for superficial reasons. The background stages were boring, the music was unbearable, and the recycled sprites, yuck… I played it for a very short period but I think eventually the music killed the game for me. I’m sure I would have liked the game if I could get over the superficial aspects…but I couldn’t. MvC3 is a beautiful game in all aspects.

I like how people are implying that accessibility is a BAD thing.
We’re eventually going to be old and as much as I love the beautiful beautiful thing that is Super Turbo… It’s just not gonna cut it for the future generations of players. They’re pretty lazy. Accessibility is the key. And MvC3 has that in spades.

BUUUT… Like others have said, it’s a totally different game from MvC2. One thing that bothered me about Marvel 2 is that a vast majority of the characters were practically useless. Low tier Marvel is basically the shiznit.
We don’t know if that’s the case with 3 yet. If they’re patching it occasionally, well… We’ll be in good shape!

It’s not a sequel. It’s totally a different game.

I liked all of the VS games with the exception of MvC2. That game just didn’t do it for me. Presentation generic and phoned-in, never did like the switch of buttons and the characters I liked to play weren’t viable at all. The latter pretty much completely killed MvC2 for me. In that respect, I like MvC3 so much more.

Being more accessible would not have been so bad if the basic combos didn’t give any incentive to learn anything more. It like, sucked the life right out of the game.
