Hey, just curious as ive seen this a few times when watching some good mak’s
What would the reasoning be behind using your back throw on the opponents wakeup as opposed to karakusa?
Not being max-punished in case the dude jumps
Precisely what NinCha said. You won’t get massively hurt if they were holding up since you will recover faster after whiffing.
Ive always wondered, how can they jump? I know they do it to me all the time but if the karakusa is meaty…shouldnt they get caught by it? I dont understand the mechanics
when you push “up” to jump:
during 4 frames, you’re still on the ground (so, if you get hit by moves, you stay on the ground), BUT your character is unthrowable
Also, back throw’s quickly becoming the ideal setup for crossup tsurugis since it always leaves you at the same range regardless of circumstance (frame advantage is dependent on the character, but that’s where the setups come in). It doesn’t give you guaranteed damage like karakusa, but it’s tricky as hell and the risk/reward is hilariously steeped in Mak’s favor.
Check the popular stickies for more info on crossup tsurugis, they’re everywhere now.
Throwing with the intent to AA is deadly on an opponent’s wake-up, jumping gets them 328 damage and a soft knockdown. Backthrow leads to perfectly meaty MP Oroshi, any meaty of your choice, a safe jump, cross-up Tsurugi, and trickery with Karakusa; I like jumping over and using s.LK kara-Karakusa myself.
But what about invincible bugs like Yang’s bthrow wakeuo?
I apologise for all the low level Makoto questions (you guys are talking about OS and karakarakusa and stuff, I’m not up to that level just yet), I just want to make sure this is possible:
I’m in training mode and I’m trying to do lk karakusa, st.hp, hayate feint, hk.karakusa but can’t seem to land the hk.karakusa.
It seems after the standing hp, the opponent is pushed too far back for the hk.karakusa?
Also, is there any frame difference between lk, mk and hk.karakusa? Is there any reason (aside from range) to use lk.karakusa over hk.karakusa? Is it faster?
You’re supposed to do Fierce Feint Strong->HC, then you’ll be able to land the karakusa. And yes, lk. Karakusa is faster than hk. Karakusa.
HC = Hayate cancel?
So I do st.fierce, mp hayate cancel, hk.karakusa?
EDIT: Can’t even get mp hayate cancel out, she just focus attacks. hp hayate cancel doesn’t seem to work either?
hey guys. im looking @ vids. whats your thought about IA tsurugi? im seeing alot of top mak players like to delay their tsurugi instead of going for the IA. when will be a good time to apply IA tsurugi during a match?
Hey there. I was having the same issue when doing the HC using Mp+ Mk, most of the time i was getting a focus atack.
Try using a lp+lk to cancel the Hayate. Please note you need to hold the lp+lk for a few frames for the hayate to cancel.
No, I know that, but I can’t seem to get HC with mp+mk at all, ever. It always does focus attack. Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible?
Guess I wasn’t very clear. Here’s how the sequence goes:
s.HP (hit), Hayate Cancel, s.MP (hit), Hayate Cancel (this cancel moves you forward), Karakusa. We just call it FFS (fierce, feint, strong) for short.
Keep in mind the hayate cancel into s.MP is a 1 frame link, so plink that shit.
try hp+mk ,lp+lk,mp+lk…etc…
use one that’s more handy for you

-Nuts
Sorry to bother again.
I notice a problem against Honda (not sure if this happens with other characters too). I cannot do 3x s.MP against this guy.
I notice some characters like Seth or Bison (hum i think he is called the Dicatator) they get pushed back and I can’t reach them for the 3rd hit. However Honda always blocks my 3rd hit, hes at ranged to block but i cant actually combo it.
Wonder if this is normal or a PC (i play on a PC) issue.
PS: I went to train a bit more and I can easily do it against, for example Gouken.
3x st.MP is character specific it’s normal.
im trying this in the training room with the dummy set on jump but when i do :hcb: **:hp:+:mk: **i always karakusa instead of fukiage. what am i doing wrong?
