I would agree that if you want to learn a new character/match-up in depth, then Endless is the best way to go. However, when it comes to learning how to adapt on the fly, I recommend playing a lot of games in ranked BECAUSE people are random/aren’t thinking. You’re forced to pay attention unless you feel like losing to something stupid.
You can still play mind games in ranked, but you’ll probably have to use a bit more repetition. For example, for the first round you could play a heavy footsies style, doing your best to get your opponent to run into your various pokes. Even if your opponent is bad, he’ll still most likely be wary if you had hit him with a few CH combos. In the second round, you should look hard to see if you spot any cracks mentally. If you see hesitation or lack of aggression, dash in and throw his ass on the ground or pressure him with block strings. If you win the first round with your footsie/CH style, then dominate the second round with an aggressive throw/block string style because your opponent was too afraid of you, then you’ve just completed a mind trick.
However, IF your opponent is good, he will constantly force you to alter your play. Instead of scoring an easy kill, you get to fight it out with another dedicated player.
Ranked is win/win situation IMO. You just have to know what to practice.
I wasn’t amazing at it either. Mostly stuck to high fireballs to make people afraid to jump in, or low fireballs to screw with Ibuki and Cammy trying to slide in. I got my Juri up to B rank, then got knocked back down to like, 2500 BP in a couple days, then just gradually fell out of playing.
Thanks for the advice, guys, I scored a couple of solid wins tonight. Among 20 or so losses, but still, I’m counting it as a victory.
First of all, it’s HK Karakusa. Second, no way, there is no benefit to moving forward with this except maybe full-screen against certain characters … the recovery on a Karakusa is such that you can react to it and jump to punish it.
Hey guys, I’m slowly adding video examples to the match-up section, but it’s gonna take a little while before I have them done. My plan is to have a win and loss for us to study and I want to make sure the footage is really worth watching. I suggest periodically checking the first page for updates, though I’ll still post reminders of my additions. Also, if you happen to run across a good match, please send it my way.
lol first of all, be nice man it was a typo ,and 2nd at the same i was talking to the mrs when i sent this so i screwed up ok i know that i have posetd here saying it the correct way before …and thank you! haha
hey guys just a general question. can i get a link to the site you got the hit boxes from? i’d like to work on my spacing against certain characters but dont have much time right now for training room. if i could get it that would be great, if its from your own personal book then thanks for the screen
Just wanted to take a survey. What match-ups are giving people the hardest time? Since I’m going to be looking for video examples to throw on the first page, I want to know what I should give the highest priority.
Hey guys i was messing around with non instant tsurugi, and I know i’ve told a few of you this, but:
-Been looking for differences in MK and LK Tsurugi. I didnt know that when you’re mid air, LK Tsurugi makes you drop almsot straight down like a LK Burn Kick. MK keeps you going forward. Because of this LK Tsurugi is better for A2A (which everyone should’ve already known, i guess). It is also better for baiting SRKs and such. So for Defense use LK Tsurugi, for offense, use MK Tsurugi.
-Jesus Christ the max range on jumping late (as possible) HK Tsurugi is like 1/2 screen lol. Downward hitbox is awesome.
-I meant to check how the opponent flies after getting hit by LK or MK Tsurugi. If they fly/float the same. Reason is, I was wondering today if it was possible to do midscreen LK Tsurugi>EX Fukiage>EX Tsurugi for like 350 damage and 432 Stun. . But i dont’ know if they fly any different. I don’t use A2A LK Tsurugi so i’m not sure. If they don’t then no biggie. Just looking for new stuff. I was also trying to find non EX options (i.e. Resets) so Like A2A LK Tsurugi, j.HP reset or U2 or something like that.
Ah i don’t know. Just thinking aloud again…
Hmm i fought a pretty good (B) DeeJay yesterday. I’ll post the matches tonight.
Also fought a Turbo Bison. I’m gonna post that out of spite lmao. Gonna tag it TURBO EXPOSED That’s how i do.
Had a FT5 with a nice Fei Long so that’s going up. Man its been awhile since I posted anything. Damn Tutorial. Oh well. Its coming too
Gief, Vega, T. Hawk, Cammy, and Balrog. I’ve come to terms that Fei and Yun just beat Makoto no matter how good the technology is, it’s really down to good reads and the right (read: lucky) footsies in those matches.
You don’t mind if a majority of the matches I post are from Haitani and Shiro, do you? I swear, it’s so hard to find a good size sample of Makoto vids. I had the foolish notion we would have a huge swell of new players once AE was released since she was made really fucking good, but alas, no dice.
im kinda glad alot of new people didn’t pick her up. The last thing we need is a bunch of R-tard idiots spamming Hayates everywhere making makoto look like an idiot.
Now, now. No need to be elitist. Everyone has to start somewhere. Who here didn’t spam Hayate when they first picked her up? If you’re going to bag on people, give them shit for not wanting to put in work. Lazy fucktards.
The lack of new Makotos is probably due to how difficult she is to learn. I only picked her up when AE came out because I was interested in her when Super came out, but got frustrated with my measly win record and moved on when I heard that she just sucked in general. With that said, the buffs don’t make her any easier to pick up for somebody who’s only played with her casually before, but knowing that she’ll be a more viable character than before when I do finally get her down is helping me stick it out through the initial (steep) learning curve.
I can see a lot of people dropping her pretty quickly for easier characters, is my point.
