EX oroshi > Empty jump > mp oroshi still works, forgot if it’s super meaty like the old sweep setup but you can combo into u1 from it.
It’s an old SSFIV setup that I forgot about until recently.

We do!

cr.HP: Dash, wait a frame, MP Oroshi. Not precise but extremely easy to get an almost fully meaty MP Oroshi, just don’t do it on the first frame.
Backthrow: Dash, s.LP whiff, perfectly meaty MP Oroshi
EX Oroshi: Dash -> throw whiff -> perfectly meaty MP Oroshi
U1: Dash X 2 -> c.HK whiff -> perfectly meaty MP Oroshi

gonna test this one out as soon as i fix my stick! would i beable to get st fierce from it?

kl thanks for the answers, been trying some of them set ups today nailed everyone except backthrow-dash-s.Lp whiff mp oroshi. Not sure why, but the only way i got that meaty was skipping out the lp and timing it myself.

Also what setups exactly have changed now? I was using the rindoukan bible (thank you so much to everyone involved on that) to work out most stuff but v2012 has changed the backthrow setups what else has it ruined?

Pretty sure it was only the backthrow setups. Everything else is fine.

Hi guys, really bad Makoto player here.

I play on PSN, and have recently transitioned from PS3 Pad to stick. Kara-cancels were easy, and I learned the game on pad, so I feel confident in saying I could do a lot of things on pad. (sans plinking, consistent FFS online, etc.)

This is my first stick. Is there a simple way to transition into it? I’m aware it’s going to take a long time to fully get the hang of things. Checked out Behrudy’s video on ways to hold a stick, and have gotten several tips from other players. Just half a hour of playing with it, I can’t really do BnB’s that well, but the tougher links are a LOT more consistent. IA Tsurugi is a little weird.

I’ve got the “practice, practice, practice!” mindset down, but does anyone recommend anything? I find it awkward to Kara-Karakusa with t.LK at this stage, but I’ve only messed around with it for literally thirty minutes.

Thanks for reading! =D

Just…time. That’s pretty much it. I don’t think it takes as long as people think it does but that’s just me.

I switch from a pad to stick about 6 monthes ago, it was painful. I wouldn’t bother playing online for a bit, it will just be frustrating tbh.

You should do reps, its the quickest way to learn. Grab ryu go to the training stage, turn on display input and do 50 fireballs one way and then 50 the other. The the same with srk etc to rebuild your muscle memory. When you can basic moves consistantly start doing combo reps. And do say 10 in one direction and if you mess it up start again from 1. Keep doing this with all your combos iat etc and it will help you adjust much quicker and you can see where your going wrong

The worst thing you can do though is to play with a pad when you get frustrated, use just the stick for a week doing reps and you’ll wonder how you ever played on a pad.

Also make sure you leant plinking it’ll be easier to learn now and you will have to learn it at some point.

What’s the best way to deal with Gouken’s armoured demon flip?

Man I wish there was a way to os Blockakusa with a fuki.

I’ve found lot of easy corner setup after EX oroshi, based on fake crossup jHP.

for example, vs ryu:
EX oroshi -> dash*2 -> jump LK tsurugi (when at the higher point of your jump) => doesnt crossup.

vs makoto, it works too, and if you delay a bit your LK tsurugi, it will crossup xD (or simply use jump MK)
It’s absolutly invisible. Opponent has to guess a 50/50 stun. And you have 123123 hours to confirm your tsurugi. Oh, and shoryuken whiffs.

For now, I didnt test all the cast and all thinkable setups, but until now, the following work:
dash*2 = makoto, ryu, ken
dash -> stLK = chunli
f+MK = rose (only blockable if she crouch guard non-crossup)

Just tested the setup vs. Ryu, really good and although you’re using lk tsurugi it is safe on block (cant be punished by SRK anyway, most likely can be punished by demon super).

I took the time to test out 2 of the setups posted before (dash x2 > jf late lk tsurugi and f+mk > jf late lk tsurugi) and between these 2 setups we have 29 of the cast covered.

After EX Oroshi in the corner > Dash x2 -> late lk tsurugi fake xup

works on:
Ryu
Ken
Makoto (lp fukiage whiffs)
Dan
Sakura (whiffs when she blocks in right direction)
Oni
Yun (can only crouch block)
Dhalsim
C. Viper
M. Bison
Cody
Hakan
Yang (can only crouch block)
Evil Ryu
Guile

After EX Oroshi in the corner > f+mk -> late lk tsurugi fake xup

works on:
Dudley
Seth
Gouken (can use hp or EX counter against this setup)
Juri
Abel
Sagat
Cammy
Dee Jay
Zangief (Lariat stuffs this)
Rufus
El Fuerte (whiffs when he blocks in the right direction)
Balrog
Fei Long
T. Hawk
Rose (can only crouch block)

For Rose, Yun and Yang these setups will hit when they block in either direction standing, they can only crouch block (down-back towards the corner).

thx for testing against all the cast.
Oh and just a question. Did you record and try to put your guard? Or just watch the effect of the tsurugi? Because sometimes it seems to fakecrossup against a dead-dummy, but if you control it, it’s a regular crossup.

Yeah, I’ve figured out for yun/yang and rose. That’s so good. haha.

For Sagat, are you sure it works with f+MK? I didnt success during my test. Maybe I was screwing the timing :o

Let’s look at who are missing:

  • chunli: you can do dash -> stLK -> LK tsurugi to do the fake crossup. This setup can maybe use against the others who are missing.
  • gouki: yeah, didnt find any setup against him :frowning:

And I didnt try anything against the following characters:

  • Ibuki: use dash*2 -> jHP instead (timing is strict. If you do it too late, she can guard it like a crossup)
  • evil ryu: same setup as ryu doesnt work? it not, just use dash*2 -> jHP. I know it works
  • guy
  • claw
  • blanka
  • adon
  • gen
  • honda

I set Makoto on dummy (doing the setup) and did all the blocking/reversals myself. I’ve just tried again against Sagat and it took me 5-6 tries but it did work. Maybe it’s just very strict timing with the tsurugi, before I did it successfully on Rose and ran that recorded attempt against the whole cast and it worked on the old eyepatch.

I didn’t get the time to test out the dash > s.lk setup at the time so maybe I’ll test that out another time.I just realised that I forgot to add Evil Ryu on to my list, rest assured it does work on him as well and I have added him to the list.

I finally got to give it a bit of an in-game test run against a Dan player and they’re working really well thus far.

After EX Oroshi > dash > s.lk > jf late lk tsurugi

works on:
Ibuki
Gen (crouch block only)
Dhalsim
Chun Li

yes, those setup are deadly because they are 0 risk/max return xD (except vs gouken, gief, etc)

I think EX oroshi becomes the way-to-go when you’re comboing in corner

Now when you say late tsurugi how late do you mean. Do you mean vtsurugi late or top of the arc late. Somewhere in between?

top of the arc.
And if you do it a bit later, it will crossup

Cool. Now I have something new to take to the training room tonight when I get home. Also vryu I noticed you have an os up on your twitter for sweep. Does it work for most of the cast?
