Yeah, I am going to go ahead and take offense at that, since it was an offensive statement. Go fuck yourself asshole. Done.
Uhh… sorry. lol
Lol it’s probably your brain saying plink? But I’m in the air! Conditioning is the key. Try plinking a normally timed tsurugi. Speaking of, is there any reason not to other than the odd screw up, I don’t see a reason not to since it’ll increase your consistency in doin it.
This is amazing!!! Seriously, I’ve been yearning, pining, soul searching, climbing mountains and meditating with monks, and hiring NASA scientists to find a good way to mess with people off a mid-screen jump-in. Low to the ground MK Tsurugi -> U1 to mess with the reaction to throw? That’s just …
Before we basically just had EX Tsurugi (as you said, annoying to spend a meter for it), try (unsuccessfuly) to empty jump -> cr.LK xx EX Hayate, try (unsuccessfully) empty jump -> IA MK Tsurugi, and dare I admit I’ve used empty jump -> f+HK. All aren’t that useful or consistent. Now, my god …
Do not stop, V-Ryu. Ever. How do you find this stuff!? For that matter, how did you find out about the f+MP cross-over? Or the other goodies you post like Santa bringing toys to toddlers? Are you secretly Japanese?
Wow… How do you find this stuff. Gotta play around with it.
I do believe these questions have been answered…

I have a question for once.
What do other Makoto players such as yourselves do to remain consistent day after day (both in and out of tournaments)? I hate playing good for a few days and then playing bad. I know that with tournament nerves they’ll go away the more experience you get at them but that doesn’t help with my inconsistent level of play in general.
Also, how do yous test or find out what kind of player you’re playing and decide how to play against them afterwards? Surely there are some things you do since most of the fight is against the player more than the character.
I like to just jump on rank and play until I lose two in a row. Then I’ll switch it up between endless and training room depending on if there was anyone good on or not. I tend to let them make the first move. Now this doesn’t mean backing off. I walk towards them at the beginning of a match. Always. The whole attacking with defense mindset. That way you can tell whether he’ll be offensive (jump/dash in or some kind of physical attack). Or defensive (jumps/dashes back and starts zoning). After that set your gameplan and play your game cause you already know theirs. Safejump to make sure they aren’t reversal mashing on wakeups or if they even know your safe jumping. MOST of the time I find there are more characters than there are personalities playing online.
OAR are you in evo? And if so is that you in pool b8?
Quick Question for the crossup tsurigi’s, on DP characters, in this case Evil Ryu am I correct in assuming that even if it’s timed correctly it’ll still get beaten out by a reversal DP? Because I had it work very consistently vs dudley, and it stuffed his laughable DP but vs a shoto I ate a good amount of reversal DPs, and I couldn’t tell if it was due to my execution or simply that it wins.
You will have to time it and distance your self a certain spacing. So it will either cross up if they block, but if they DP (even EX), it will whiff, and you can dash toward them into karakusa, and punish.
alright I’ll have to lab it a bit harder then to get the timing down, thanks for the confirmation
Use the tsurugi crossup sometimes against Cammy, backthrow,st.mk,mk tsurugi. The st.HK stuff the Spiral Arrow clean if done correctly.
Thanks for that. I was hoping to get answers from more Makotos though. Maybe when they come back from playing with the Kara-rugi.
Agh I wish I had an xbox, damn red rings!!! This kara-tsurugi is awesome. It could create some dirty oki options, I’m imagining a f.jump meaty mk vs cross up kara-tsurugi mixup. V-ryu, your never cease to amaze me. Seriously, what made you even consider this would work??
New tech reminds me of the meaty cr.LK -> Ultra1 days. I still miss that setup.
I stay fresh by beating up on your Makoto just regular play mainly, arcade round the corner from where I work and 1 or 2 hours at home (a little training mode and then mainly endless).
EX Oroshi > fwd. dash > n.jump attack whiff > cr.lk > Ultra 1 (what? hit confirming?) reminisces
Hi. I lurk this thread a lot but never really comment. Vryu’s crossup IAT setups are a beautiful thing against shotos, makes backthrow deadly and gives you a 50/50 that is safe. thats awesome. I wanted to see if i could find any crossup setups after ex chop. this way there is a safe option on basically all of your hard knockdowns… and i found one.
ex chop dashX2 c.lp IAT.
I only tested it on akuma but im pretty sure it works on all shotos.
I prefer safejumps against anyone that can be safejumped so im not going to test it out on anyone else. I just feel like its safer and more consistent.
ALSO 2 questions.
Is there an efficient way to autocorrect EX Karakusa?
and Vryu you had a video of you auto correcting an armor cancel into U1 against a Yun divekick. What is this motion like?
I was just trying to do air kara-cancel, just to see if it does something. And I was like “hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, wtf with this tsurugi? Oo”.
Japanese players named it “V剣”. hahaha (剣 = tsurugi).
I have some setups with it (didnt try all cast):
vs Sagat:
EX hayate -> LP fuki -> empty jump -> kara throw -> backstep -> jump late tsurugi or j.HP
- if sagat recovery and mash uppercut, it whiff (backdash).
- if he stays knocked down, jump HP is safe jump
- if he stays knocked down, late tsurugi is good to beat landing techthrow AND avoids any reversal uppercut
The same works vs cammy and shotos, but late tsurugi will crossup them
vs Feilong:
(corner) EX oroshi -> f+LK -> late MK tsurugi (crossup), late LK tsurugi (non-crossup). Both make whiff flame kick
finding this really hard atm on a controller, thanks again V-ryu helped me more than any other player except maybe mossad in organizing this place. Discovered today by accident can combo ultra 1 of mp(and lp) oroshi fadc (was trying meaty stuff), i assume this is v. old news just wondering why never see it used that much? few other options after fadc is it not worth it or something?
You don’t see it mostly because the fadc is completely unnecessary; if you hit MP oroshi meaty enough, you can combo into U1 for free. Problem is, we don’t have a frame perfect meaty setup for MP oroshi anymore. Sweep, fdash, mp oroshi, U1 used to work back in ssf4.
