AE Update - What would you change (add, remove or simply modifiy) about Balrog in the Update?

yeah I was at EA, I faced mike ross’s honda with my balrog, and I lost.

as much as I like the idea of Balrog’s overhead punch faster, and U2 with throw distance like Zangief I think that would just make Balrog OP, and something to complain about more since all I ever get in AE is how Balrog is still OP. -_-;;

Well, glad I didn’t drop Rog (well, I just played minimal AE!). I’ll take 2012 Rog as is with these buffs.
Sure there isn’t the far standing jab and headbutt mixups… but I’ll deal with it because that overhead smash buff is the awesome along with returning headbutt damage.

Hmm, yea I guess you have a point there. It’s just that with Balrog getting super nerfed in AE he needs something that can make him a credible threat to players again. Since Balrog’s Ultra 2 is all but useless right now our opponents know that you will choose Ultra 1. We Rog players need a way to have Ultra 2 be a threat so that our opponent will have to not only watch out for multiple rushdowns but also avoid getting caught in U2. 300 dmg and 1 frame start up is no where near enough.

Well it’s not like we’re free up close anyway. It’d be a nice bonus for some matchups and actually having a choice at the character select screen.
But Ultra 1’s still very useable, even in AE for positioning and a small flick of damage.

It could be worse… see Guile, Claw, Rose, Honda

I don’t know what happened with Vega and Honda but yea at least he didnt get the Rose treatment.

I’m ok with what he has now, really waiting for that headbutt damage to come back, and for my case, I don’t think I would use U2 even if it was more deadly, at least not when I’m playing for real.

I know that you’ve posted this long ago but DAMN, I love this idea. It’s quite unfortunate that we won’t be getting this. Maybe we should’ve made a petition, who knows what Ono could’ve done?

I personally feel like Boxer is just a suckier version of Dictator. Am I the only one who thinks he actually relies on gimmicks to do continuous damage? A straight up rushdown character with weak mixup kinda feels dumb. I’d take ST Rog over Super Rog anyday.

But on a more realistic level, I’d want HB’s recovery back (dealing with fireball spammers was easier than ever back then >_>), I don’t mind its damage on AE honestly. Probably a hitbox adjustment on his cr.LP (since part of the front glove is actually ignored completely) and st.LP hitting tall crouchers. For an addition, adding a F+MP/MK overhead would be pretty darn cool.

EDIT: I’ve found out about the Ono! AE Moveset Editor a moment ago and was wondering if somebody that owns AE on PC would like to try out Jav1ts’s changes and make a video showcasing how he’d play. Anybody feels like doing this? I know it’s kind of pointless but I’m curious.

Final list of changes for all characters are out. Nothing surprising for Rog.

Still wish they gave us st LP against crouchers. Using st HP might leave you open to punishes esp if they focus through it.

yeh, and notice they changed the wording for the modifications to Overhead.

For Dash Swing Blow?

Correct me if im wrong but in most ways rog will be better than ae rog. He got his headbut damage back and he can now combo Cr.Mp on all characters which is another damage buff. excluding the standing light punch. We got some good buffs and where doing pretty damm well where most characters got minor buffs we got some good important buffs for rog. we can complain really its pretty damm good.

Yeh, it says the hitback (pushback) has been reduced on hit so he’s always in range for cr.mp, but it doesn’t allude that OH, cr.mp xx hp.hb will work on all characters. I’m almost 90% sure that OH, lp.hb will work on the more of the cast crouching. not looking forward to testing that for the cast again :[

I don’t know, that’s a hard argument, i think SSF4:AE was his worst iteration with his SF4 iteration being the strongest. But in general balrog has probably had the fewest changes then the rest of the cast. But yes I agree with you, better than AE rog in the sense that if you land the same bnbs and punishes, the match should end faster.

Hmm i know OH, Cr.Mp,HB would works on some characters so i assume that MP headbut will work on alot more characters maby all characters. the only thing i worry about is characters like blanka and whatnot.

cr mp makes blanka stand up, so yeah it should work. it won’t work on akuma and sagat though

In AE, close MP makes crouchers stand, if I recall. Not crouching.

Against Blanka, and other “problem” characters, stick to dash-straights as combo enders, for safeness.

Enig, what were the changes for Rog between Vanilla and Super?

I think only U2, most of the changes happened between super and AE, to the best of my knowledge. gonna look around to be 100% sure. And on the issue of force stands, the only attacks balrog has that force stand are cl.mp, cl.hp, lp/mp/hp/ex.ds, and CH lp.oh. Against blanka and the other characters, cr.mp, just pushes their hitbox back so headbutt will connect instead of whiff, cr.lk/cr.lp doesn’t have as much pushback.

Also, i’m pretty stoked about the mod to the input from 2xhcb to 720, auto-dash u2 was useful, but i think being able to jump over an opponent on wakeup into U2 is more useful, so we can do jab, throw, or U2 now (sarcastic yay).

look @ the frame data too, in the notes it’ll say if something forces stand.

That’s all I can find, but as I recall that was the only addition, no buffs, no nerfs, just U2. AE had a lot of changes: cl.mp/ex.torpedo/headbutt recovery and damage etc.

training mode, my friend. back in vanilla, i tested overhead on every character to see who can get hit with cr.short, cr.strong, headbutt, or dash straight after an overhead.
sagat is one of those characters that if you overhead him then you can’t headbutt him, you gotta dash straight.

i also dislike the overhead into cr. strong buff, all of the character specific things that i’ve learned have gone to waste.

Well they say that OH into Cr.Mp will be combod in to all characters which is a nice buff. i cant see you you would not be able to combo headbut in to all of these characters. IF we do its great but if not i just assume that there will be very little characters that will not be headbuted after Cr.Mp

But either way we got damage buffs. What do you think of the ultra 2? it got a big damage buff but i never really bothered to see if its worth wile

All i know that it got some decent buffs is it worth wile guys?
