AE rebalancing- Death of Fei Long?

EX Rekka’s Buffs
Recovery is modified, with hit and block advantage greatly improved.
If 2nd hit is blocked, Fei is still not at a disadvantage (barley -1 on block)

These buffs turned this move almost completely safe.

This is my quote from a couple days ago
"he’s an absolute beast in AE, whereas in Super his beastly capabilities were harder to use and implement into different play styles"

I have always maintained Fei is a beast. In Vanilla, Super and AE. It’s just that in AE the slight changes he recieved up’d shit up a notch, I think. The opponent always feels the buffs more than the player, and this is the case here. He lost a safe chicken wing but he got a safe EX Rekka. Even if he throws out two hits of EX Rekka and they’re blocked, he’s only at -1! This is huge.

But I get your point, his overall changes were very minimal. It’s just like I said though, your opponent always feels the buffs more than you do, and I notice a huge difference while playing Super Fei and AE Fei, whatever it is contributed to.

well i do think he is a beast in AE, or a tank lol, that moves forward and corner u whatever u do, but this is mostly because of the nerfs of the entire cast, guile getting nerfed, shoto espape tastu removed, ultra2 invincibility of rose gone, honda damage output nerfed ,ex green hand that doesn’t knock down, all of this details actually make him a lot stronger, because he doesn’t have to worry about it anymore and can apply his pressure mure better than ever.

ex rekka is a huge buff indeed, but is it better than roundounse chicken wing? i personally can’t tell, both are very good i think, roundhounse chicken wing was the best move to do random come back, and ex rekka is a very good tool at characters that can punish rekka very well.

This is true, and something I had not considered much in earlier posts. I can’t argue with facts. I concede, sir.

Fei was up there in Super, but considered second to Akuma. As far as being fun to play, characters like Yun and Ken are fun to play, a blast really. Playing a good Fei means hella patience (again see Fuudo), something a lot of people don’t have.

Even after getting run over by multiple Fei Longs, I still think he’s fine. Just lower the damage on flame kick a little bit. He does what he’s built to do very well, no reason to hate the character for that.

I just only wish that Capcom had the guts to stick with that kind of character design for the rest of the cast.

Nerfs I would be OK with are:

Damage reduction on Flamekick
Lost invincibility on all chickenwings except for EX, and if they reduce the damage too, I expect all the hits of it to armor break.
Less pushback of rekkas on HIT. Many people complain about being sent to the corner in 1 combo, well that’s fair. Less pushback may or may not be a nerf though. What you are losing on positioning you are gaining on wakeup pressure. I see a much larger use of frametraps in this context.

excellent point about the pushback.even if they nerfed it, its a semi buff. lol

if the opponent isnt tossed 2 dashes and a fp rekka away, maybe we can get rekkas followed up by a safe jump or some meaty pressure. id take it

I have a feeling they are going to increase the FK startup too. Probably they will just leave the LK version to be 5f, it would finally have a meaning at least, lol

It’s funny to me…all these people complaining about how good Fei is, why not pick him up yourself? Win a tournament with him if he’s so top tier. Easy money right? Aside from Mago and recently Fuudo, nobody has really won a huge legit tournament with Fei. He may have good tools but he lacks comeback factor and he also can’t really do anything if the opponent lames it out. My cousin bitches to me all the time about how cheap Fei is so I said, “Why not pick him up for yourself?” So he did and played as Fei for a few days and ranted about how strong and good he is… just a few weeks later he switched back to his regular main lol. It really does take a lot of skill to use him effectively in high level play believe it or not. I remember going to ATL revival and Min was there telling me how cheap Fei is…he picked Fei and lost and had to switch back to M. Bison.

@Hotdawg is true just pick him up. For the record Sarnab and Evans have won majors in the UK with Fei. Mago just showed Fei’s full potential and other players built on that. That said yes Fei requires a lot of skill to use. He doesn’t have a comeback factor out side of a FA crumble or reversal fk I to whatever. His normals do not have the best priority say like Ryu and Akuma. What people seem to continue to forget is the the entire cast got nerfed in some way. Many characters who dealt out large damage got there damage reduced. Fei didn’t and that’s the main reason why people complain that he is so strong. His biggest combo which can net about 450 damage requires you to hit a 1 frame link plus FADC as well. His other still a 1 frame link into rekka for 366 damage. The only normal he can combo his rekka is cr/st.LP.

Let’s not mention how many characters can combo off of many more normals. Te fact is that more people are picking up Fei and players play against him and they are instantly scared. I would call this the Mike Tyson affect. He seems super powerful but if you don’t back down and you pressure him he can lose. Here is a tip Inthul gave a player while facing him “te best wayto beat Fei is to stay on him and take away my rekka range. I won’t throw a rekka if I am not at max distance. My normals are fast but if you stay on top of me it will force me to back up to have my rekka range. That is my most effective move for chip. If you take that away from my then I will throw normals for ever and your life will stay the same. Last stop backing up, make me earn that space. Your giving me what I want and that’s to get you in the corner and pressure you. If you push me back and pressure me I will be forced spam LK/MK CW to escape and I can be punished on block, well that LK version at least”

so thats a starting point for what feis matchups are in AE. what do you guys think

Fei has only one bad matchup in that, lol. I’m surprised there’s not any 7-3s for Fei either.

As for Fei being difficult to play, I’d argue that he is fundamental play personified (or characterised?), and if you’re fundamental understanding of the game is there, then you’re going to succeed with him. For example, the recent team tourney footage I saw when Chris Hu picked Fei and ran through Sanford, one of the DMGs playing Viper (can’t remember which one), and the like just doing very simple stuff.

yeah, it looks like they gifted him a bunch of matches. like a lot of those 5.5-4.5s.

Akuma rapes Fei. Sagat having the edge on Fei in AE is a head scratcher. Gief is correct. SPD buff makes it far harder for rekka pressure. Again this is there opinion and such. Chun I feel is even with Fei or in her favor by a hair. Her footsies are far better then Fei’s and when she has a life advantage she can lame it out on Fei.

green means good match for fei. chart says fei is 6-4 against sagat

Heavy Weapons, Sagat main from melbourne (commentator at Shadowloo) playing since vanilla thinks Fei is a 7-3 against Sagat. He thinks it’s worse the dhalsim

Well he did the other night when I was beasting on him…

sagat players should learn how to punish 2 blocked rekka( lot of fei get away with it even best ones), it’s free tiger uppercut(which means sagat can take off 50% of life from fei’s best move), it doesn’t matter if the second is spaced or not it will work all the time unlike ryu, ken, adon, cammy, and other dps characters that have to use a normal to punish him.(we still see a lot of two blocked rekka at high level, top players cannot hit confirm all the time)

im going hard body in ranked with fei. the patch is coming out sooner than i thought. gotta take advantage of winning against all but 3 characters in the game.

Yeah, nice to see they have taken a full , erm…few…weeks…to sort out the future of the game. o_O

I’ve already started Oni as a back up (to my back up…)

Don’t get me wrong, there’s no way I’m dropping him if rekka stay’s a powerful tool. If it gets hit, as hudson said…game over man…GAME OVER!

how soon? been looking for info and all i can find are loci test sites.
