If, after your recover, you do a move that raises your hitbox, the opponent won’t cross-over.
eg. vs Ryu, after crumple, cr.mk xx hop:
st.hk -> Blanka stays on other side
cr.lp -> Blanka ends up on the same side, faces the wrong way
lp elec -> Blanka ends up on the same side, faces wrong way
^ Haha. I was messing around with this some more and I realized that against some chars you can control which side you end up by doing moves that alter your hitbox.
eg. vs Ryu, if you do cr.mk xx hop during the last part of the crumple and you hold left, right or neutral, Blanka lands on the same side. However, if you hold down, Blanka ends up on the same side.
vs Juri, you land on the other side even if you hold down. But doing coward crouch (and certain crouching moves) on your recovery makes you end up on the same side.
I’m gonna mess around with it some more.
[EDIT]
This ambiguous hop trick seems to have potential. After a bit of testing I came up with these:
vs Ryu: FA crumple, cr.mk (reset) xx hop
instant lp electricity (hits same side)
(hold down) cr.hk (same side - slight delay required otherwise you face the wrong way)
(neutral, or hold left/right), cr.hk (other side)
meaty st.mp, cr.hk (!!!) (other side)
meaty st.mp, cr.mk xx hop (other side, and followup hop lands on same side)
Yeah you have to do it later than you think because you get so much frame advantage off the hop.
cr.mk xx hop resets are so weird. Against Abel and Rufus, you should always cross over no matter which direction you hold. But after repeating it dozens of times, it seems like sometimes you just randomly land on the same side. I think it’s got to do with how far the opponent has “fallen” during the crumple, but that’s just a guess.
And yeah, this should really go into a different thread.
[EDIT]
My guess could be right. After crumple, rockcrusher (reset) xx hop, you land on the same side vs Abel. But if you delay the rockcrusher slightly, it crosses up.
[EDIT 2]
I dunno if it’s because you have to delay it or whatever, but it seems like there’s a certain frame(s) that you have to hit him on in order to get it to stay on the same side.
[EDIT 3]
Oh wow. It looks like there’s a couple of frames where the opponent pushes you back as they crumple to the ground. If you hit them with cr.mk xx hop at this point you land on the same side! Tried it against Honda now and it works!
Hey guys, I got a chance to play several games with Blanka over at Chinatown Fair the last couple of days. Some random thoughts:
Slide ending faster makes it feel safer, but I get the feeling at the end of the day it’s only safer cause people need to react faster to it. Still, it’s definitely an improvement.
I tried using EX Electricity on wake up, no go, got hit out of it and thrown out of it.
I didn’t notice anything new about c. lk. It definitely doesn’t have +1 frame advantage, cause that would make it a two frame link and I would really notice something like that. But I wouldn’t rule out it having one more active frame for you to cancel out of. c lk xx elec I get about 75% of the time in training and 50% in arcade, but I was hitting it almost 75 - 80%.
EX rainbow takes a lot of control to get used to. But it’s pretty funny.
Hops feel the same, cept I was command grabbed out of the start of a back hop once… is that normal?
I’m almost positive c. mk is the same, but I hit it into ultra twice in a match yesterday, and I barely get it 50% in training. Probably I was just lucky… I mean I tried linking two c. mks here and there and never got it. What if… Ultra 1 is 1 frame faster startup… (No way they would never be that nice to Blanka)
Random match up notes:
Blanka feels pretty good against day 2-3 twins.
I haven’t had much experience with this match up in super but AE Hakan absolutely devastates me. Any ball that doesn’t knock down = a slide (ex?) from Hakan into wake up mixups. And Blanka’s footsie game feels like focus fodder for Hakan’s sliding canceling focus shenanigans.
don’t ball against Hakan and don’t let him oil up. Oil that doesn’t come from a knockdown should always be punished, you have plenty of time.
Blanka > dry hakan
Blanka < oiled hakan
His footsies change completely when he’s oiled, and they go from being very easy for Blanka to manage, to extremely hard. Just try not to get knocked down and bully him before he’s oiled or gets ultra.
I’m going to check out blanka at chinatown fair next week, I’ll post up some info as I get it, does anyone here know/think that they will come out with the console update for AE? Also from playing blanka from the start of vanilla…um the rock crusher is ass, it always will be ass, it won’t be used…blanka got nothing but downgrades , capcom seems to want to keep blanka down for some reason, tryin to muscle him into the garbage tier, I dunno why, so many noobs bitchin’ probly. I for one won’t drop him though, as of now.
Didnt get a chance to play a Yun, but a day 1 Yang could not dive kick me from anywhere but up close (but there is probably an anti air that would beat it up close also…s.fp? s.hk?) because c. mp beats the kick CLEAN.
EX Electricity is very good. I’m very happy with this buff. Comes out as fast as LP elec with a HUGE hitbox.
HP Blanka Ball can be punished by Juri’s wheel kick on block. The bounce back distance is within sweep distance.
Was using LP ball as a poke against a Sim player and it worked surprisingly better than usual. I remember them saying something about changing the property of the ball, but I can’t recall what it is. Hopefully someone else remembers and can chime in.
EX Rainbow Ball is going to take some getting used to. You can still use it to escape corners, but people probably haven’t caught on to the new distance so take this with a grain of salt. Doing an EX Rainbow and holding Back will actually make you go further backwards (about a blanka c.mk distance), so thats a new gimmick as well. Like I said, going to take some getting used to.
Slide is harder to react to but just as punishable
Didn’t notice any differences on his normals
For those who have seen my playstyle, I rely on hop a lot when it comes to pressure. I noticed that I can’t do my BS block strings into hops as well as I could before. Seems like its much slower than before, but it could just be me not being used to the new timing.
Did not get to test rock crusher. Forgot all about it! :[
Also, illitirit. You should watch me play on the SRKLive stream sometime. If you like looking in to those hop resets, look no further. I can send you a PM with some of my info so I can inform you when I play and stuff. Lemme know!
Is it possible that Blanka has new combos that finish with EX Elec? Could he possibly do cl.mp > s.lp xx EX Elec and have it connect on everyone now? Or maybe even cl.mp > cr.mk xx EX Elec??
Back from the dead! Dude, I used to watch your vids back in like, vanilla, when I was first learning my Billy matchups. Nice to see you’re still playing. Your style and DJ Vest’s were a good balance of mizoteru lameness and smart pressure.
I think it works on everyone… but… it depends how fast you cancel EX electricity… you cancel it too slow you’re gonna whiff
so far I see myself landing CS.MP, s.LP xx HP elec more often… i haven’t have the opportunity to really know if it’s gotten better due to i usually use this combo only after FA/dizzy
