Advanced Balrog (Boxer) Mind Games + Tricks

Hai gaiz

As we all know Balrog has the ambiguous crossup made famous by Ronstoppable. I have a different version of that. People may already play Balrog this way but im the only that I know of as yet. Basically after a jab jab short headbutt combo I am immediately holding down after I press up+fierce. Right as my opponent begins decending after the headbutt I do another headbutt. If I want to cross up it will be with the fierce. Jab headbutt is easy to see that its not going to cross, the medium punch makes it look close but it will keep you infront of your opponent. If this is performed correctly you will land on the other side right before your opponent gets up. That is if they did the quick get up (Tech). If they dont then you have to pause a split second then you can do another headbutt for the same cross up game. Be aware that during this part the timing is more strict. I advise a lot of practice or you will land a few frames in disadvantage. So its like the ambiguous but with the benefit of meter. Just thought id add something to the Balrog technology! Peace!

Headbutt, headbutt cross-up sounds pretty slick actually. Won’t quick rise put you at disadvantage though?

No you land just in time. That is if you do the headbutt as soon as possible. Thats why you have to get into the habit of holding down right after you do the headbutt.

interesting

i want to know how to practice the keno eye

hi2u asl?

can someone learn me the ways of the keno eye?

YOU TAKE IT FROM HIM

No0o0oo. MINE! I served up some Keno Eye at SF4 Bar Fights!

i’d like some keno eye on the rocks.

be servin that in 852 TONIGHT

i was trying this out in training mode just now. i have a few questiosn though. what do you usually do after the mixup headbutt? also, what is the one that ronstoppable does? how is it different from this. thanks a lot!

Usually I will do Jab Jab or throw after I land. Ronstoppable will do a headbutt then jump towards the opponent that was just grounded. He will land before they get up and will usually begin his mix ups with jab. The difference between the two is that when you do a headbutt you get meter. With the headbutt mixup its not as ambiguous as Ronstoppable does his but it makes you look vulnerable when you are not so people try and throw stuff out.

How does ron change the positioning on his jump to make it look ambiguous? Seems like it would always cross-up if you jump directly afterward.

He knows better than I do, but when I try it sometimes I land infront but most often it is behind the opponent. It may be character specific. You can take a small step back before you jump as well.

I could be wrong, but wouldn’t throwing out a punch the last moment before you land keep you on the same side. If you do it late enough, I’m not sure the hit box is long enough to provoke a block even if they are up just before the jump-in.

That may work. Cause I know balrog vs balrog if you jump and press mk as soon as you leave the floor it keeps you on the same side.

i pulled a blocked tap FA dash cancel forward into ultra out of desperation which had won me a round.

not very practical at all, but it looked cool

Wouldn’t people have the inclination to throw you after a whiffed headbutt on wakeup? As sick as the whiff headbutt ambiguous crossup sounds I’m curious as to how you can prevent the guy from pressing buttons. Is the timing strict on this?

Also, with the mention of DA c.HP THAT BLOCKS OUT THE SUN, is anyone trying s.MP as an AA option? The # of activation frames for those two are the same but since it requires additional time to go from stand to crouch, I find it easier to just hit s.MP as I’m walking around and I see the guy jump forward. The only problem I see with it is that you’re more likely to dish more damage during a trade and/or suffer from low priority.

this threads a good read. respect

its just an psychological issue. if someones jumping in, in most cases ur holding a charge or smth. its just a reflex + hp. if ur already standing and they jump in, why use s.mp when i can SA2, exDSP, dash crossups? its just a matter of options. c.hp does high damage, stuns, and if it trades you can definitely pop an ultra. trade occurs when both sides use the same strength kick or punch which hits simutaneously. (not sure about srk)

you can ultra after a trader c.fp?

no shit.
