Advanced Balrog (Boxer) Mind Games + Tricks

this is pretty meh but jumping fierce kind of push the guy a little higher so you land first, immediately dash foward for cross up, normally they would throw so jump again and free combo, or just c.mk combo… not a big deal but can catch someone off guard

:rofl::rofl:

I’ve tried a few times using OH ~ c.mp xx HB and it WORKS on a crouching blanka…

hb whiffs.

ive tried for 6 months.

Dude… I just did it in training mode wtf? 3 hit combo. Let me get a vid up. I do it from different distances too and it works.

I tested it out. It works. Problem is, it’s almost really strict timing on Rog’s part to hit that c.strong.

edit: recorded a better quality video of it

Yeah, it’s 10 full hits after you connect Ultra.

Redic. great post!! Thanks

Just tried it, and it indeed does work.

I guess it’s a special case for blanka since c.mp gives him a different hit stun which lifts his hitbox up a bit that lets the headbutt hit him.

c.lk headbutt whiffs but c.mp headbutt doesnt unless you’re too far away.

Guess you should make some changes to your opening post Eph.

props to hoonyo for this

alright i just tried it, which actually opened up to some new knowledge:

as it stands, the LP OH punch will still not work, but MP OH and HP/EX OH will (if you connect the c.mp afterwards).

so i guess its concluded that it DOES work, but must be a mp/hp/ex OH and must connect with a c.mp xx headbutt (of any strength)

my bad on my part and thanks hoonyo for this.

So whats the difference between the jab version and the others for this oddity to occur?

hitbox, the jab version travels the least distance compared to the other two, so i guess it stops a little early and hits in front of blanka, pushing him away. the c.mp will work, but the crouching hitbox of blanka wont be hit by the headbutt.

however, because jab version is also safest on block (comparatively) to the mp/hp counterparts, its probably why i personally use lp all the time, because mp has -7 and hp has -8 frame disadv on block, which is pretty bad for block (like eating reversal chun ultra). but then again since this is really just blanka exclusive knowledge, i’d tradeoff a little risk just to beat blanka turtles outta the head-in-dick crouching.

I tested it out with jab version. It works as well.

wow i must be just terribly misinformed. i was trying that the whole morning =/ i’m gonna hop on the console and grind this out. brb

edit: you’re all right. i feel pretty retarded.

edit 1: did some testing and this came up:

OH, c.lk xx HB hits on stand (HB whiffs if connected with c.mp)
OH, c.mp xx HB hits on crouch (c.lk whiffs on crouch)

theres not a definite combo that you can rely on when you really wanna overhead blanka though. but im pretty sure this is final.

Too bad for me that ever blanka I play won’t even let me get off the overhead punch, rofl… I usually catch a ball or that electric shit.

Dash Swing Blow. A.K.A Overhead punch

Startup:

51[23] - 51 frames to home in to its furthest distance. 23 frames if in melee range.

As we all know, we mix this move up in crouching block strings so we can land it when pressure is applied to your opponent. It combos into c.lk or c.mp xx headbutt into ultra. However, smarter opponents can easily throw us, poke us, shoryu us on reaction because of how long this move’s startup is. What other ways can we increase the likelihood of landing a move with such opportunity costs? Here are a few examples.
*
1.) jump-in, st.lp, OH punch or c.lp, st.lp, OH punch*

Why?

because the animation from st.lp to an overhead punch is VERY deceptive and most people think its unlikely you would do an OH punch from standing because your average rog keeps the down charge like their life depends on it.

But how can I still combo into it?

You have your back charge from the jump-in, the st.lp retains the back charge, and you move your stick down front for the OH punch. hold on to the down front charge, c.lk, down-front - up front, headbutt.

While it does not mean you can keep your back charge for ultra, the combo alone does very reasonable damage on its own.

Hey Emph.

Just played with this today, you CAN link the Ultra after this. Instead of holding down-front, IMMEDIATELY charge down-back after you launch the Overhead, cr. lk, Headbutt, Ultra.

I thought we went over this a little bit earlier in the thread.

Guess he forgot to change it.

Dude we need to finish RE5 :lovin:

Why not just go with the c.mp xx headbutt?

Not like you’ll ever hit someone with the overhead while they’re standing up

Haha! You were fuckin them boys up with that bow and arrow! For real man, when I get another day off, we’ll go back on it.

I didn’t bother reading through the whole thread after that, so that’s my fault… But I figured maybe one of you guys already knew you could link it pretty easily.

ARMOR BREAK BROS

hk blankas are SA happy :<

RE5 is way too easy. hard part’s finding partners who dont fuck up interactive cutscenes!!
