Adultswim FIGHT! beta testers wanted - round 2

I posted a while back and got some really good feedback on the game “FIGHT!” which I am developing for Adultswim.

The game is feature complete, just needs polish and balancing, which is where you come in.

Please try the game and let me know your thoughts:

This build will be updated often, hopefully daily for the next week or two, so have fun while it lasts.

The final game will probably be on Adultswim sometime in December.

They’re still tossing around titles (FIGHT! is apparently too problematic copyright wise) so the front end is still unfinished, but it will be cool, I promise! There are also a few other bugs I am working on, especially some wierdness with the extra hyper…

Changes since the last build:
-All 9 character are now playable
-new backgrounds
-new music
-training games added
-default difficulty is dummed down for casual players (you can crank it up in the options menu)
-cinematics are complete
-default keys are changed to a more standard PC layout (you can customize keys in the options menu, and it will remember your settings)
-blocking is now easier, just tapping the correct direction before the attack will initiate a block

If you have any problems, please include your browser and computer info.

Thanks

Have fun

I didn’t play the first beta, but I’m amazed. Just played the tutorial, and I have to say that this is one of the most mindgame-centric fighting games I’ve ever played. Its potential is limitless. Good shit. :woot:

Duuude, I finally got around to trying this thing and the production values are incredible. There are some really neat ideas in there and it’s a lot of fun!

edit: I managed to trigger a glitch at some point where the green lady and me (tutorial Joshua) couldn’t attack each other. Occurred coming out of a hyper. Persisted for about 20 seconds, until eventually she stomped on my foot or something, and then everything went back to normal. Only happened once, not sure how it did.

I also triggered the glitch with the boxer dude AND the green lady.
Boxer dude was while coming out of a lost hyper duel while quickly replying to an IM, green lady while just coming out of standard hyper.

Also, this game is fun as hell.
I’m honestly shocked and incredibly pleased.

EDIT: So pretty much the biggest problem at the moment is hypers. I’ve been stuck on the finish screen of a hyper duel against Buck for about 3 minutes now. Also, on the tutorial, after the first knockdown and during the opponent’s get up game, the screen is frozen and the music just continues to loop. It doesn’t happen continuously but it happens fairly regularly.

The game suddenly froze on me when i was facing watson i think the guy with the glasses, when he did his hyper combo and i used mine at the same time. The music was still playin ,but it just was stuck during the button mashing part.

I’m gonna try to back to where i left before it froze.

Reached to the boxer guy after facing Buck. During the game couldn’t move or do the hyper combo, the Helmut was moving in and out and refilled his health. I could attack though but they didn’t hit at point blank range.

Not sure if I messed something up or not, but my opponent won’t get up after I knock him down. I can mash A, and I’ll get stars but he’ll just sit there and nothing happens.

I played up until ‘Knock the Opponent Down!’ and brought focus to a chat client (So the browser lost focus) and when I went back, it would not proceed past it :.

The glitch happened to me too. I’m not a programmer or anything, so it probably isn’t as simple to fix as it seems, but the quicker this gets nipped in the bud, the better.

This happened to me after I quit and later started playing the second time. The opponent also never bothers to block attacks, even at the highest difficulty.

Oh and by the way I’ve been messing around in 2 player so I can check out all the characters, and as far as balance goes, so far Helmut is looking pretty broken, he can spam SP1 and still be able to block, something very uncommon in SPs in this game, as pretty much every random or poorly-placed SP is very punishable. So he can still recover health on block.

Also, I feel like Onward’s SP1 should be a gun move aside from a pistol whip.
It’s just a weaker, slower version of Dante’s SP1 and has no range advantage.
A gunshot with a fair amount of startup, for example, would give his character originality and a bit more depth instead of being an exact Dante clone but with a gunshot hyper.

actually dude , that shit is on point man.

except on the tutorial… I get to the get up part… where it says mash A… and my opponent… doesnt get up at all.

Keep this up this is cool.

yeah the get up part is broken, cant really progress without it

presentation is really great so far, i wanna see the story

Thanks for the crits guys.

It sounds like there is a lot of crashing on the hypers and the get up game. I haven’t experienced this in my testing, but I’ll see if I can find out what is going on.

For those of you that are having problems when you change focus and back, It is probably because you aren’t clicking on the flash window. If you just click ont he browser window it doesn’t necessarily focus the game, you have to click on the actual flash object for it to listen your keys.

As far as Dante and Onward being very similar, this is on purpose. Their chapter in story mode switches back and forth between them so I wanted them to play the same.

I’ll check into these issues and post a new build Monday probably.

Just checked it out and fixed the CPU get up bug.

There is a new version up, but you may have to delete your cache to get it.

It should say 10/25/08b at the bottom.

For those that were crashing on the hypers, can you give me more info about what browser, OS, and computer specs?

Wow, have to agree that this is fun!

It stopped loading somewhere during story mode, I think because I lost my Internet connection - got it working and it was still stuck there.

Aside from that, not much else to say except that this is looking very nice and I appreciate you asking us for help. =)

This game is surprisingly fun. Although, mindgames are wasted on the AI because it’s not like you can psyche out the computer.

I do have a question though. Do you have to block special hits a certain way? Like, up or down block? Or does just blocking in general stop it?

Dude, the artistic level and production values are amazing. That and the interface is REALLY clever.

and the game is fun to boot.

As for balance: Duff’s counter is a little much considering there are no throws, yes?

Blocking specials - it depends on the special. The short range ones that do damage can be blocked but at a specific height.

No character has more than one close range special that does damage, so when playing against any given character you must favor blocking the height of their fast special when at close range (IE always block high against Buck to avoid his headbutt until he shows that he is attacking at a different height)

Joshua’s push is unblockable, but does no damage, just useful for interrupting and upping the attack speed.

Some characters have special blocks which hit another players hit (IE Duff’s belly bounce force hits an opponent who tries to punch him medium height). These moves cannot be blocked, only avoided by not attacking that height.

There are a few others that are unblockable and do damge, but they have slow wind up speeds allowing them to be interrupted (Westone’s taser, and Helmut’s haymaker)

Finally Dante and Onwards long range specials can be blocked but have multiple hits which if blocked can result in losing stars.

1st block awards 1 star
2nd block awards no stars
3rd block loses 1 star…

so if you get someone to block when you are using dante, then dash back and do his can stab special, you’ll either steel 2 stars or get some hits.

In addition some player’s regular moves have additional advantages IE Zhong’s dash attack is invulnerable to mid and low attacks, Westones dash attack is invulnerable to high attacks etc…

One of the things on my list to do is a moves list in the pause menu that explains what each character’s specials do.

Thanks for playing!

I also got beat by zhong…and the retry screen never came. she jusat kept trying to fight my KOed character.

Good stuff this time around. Anyone else turn the slow mode down to 2 or 3. Makes the pace of the game much faster.
