PPL who are saying Adon got “buffed” are crazy. as a frame trap cl.mk got worse. I had actually worked that into my game for counter hit purposes. cr.lk/cr.lp to cl.mk was a great set up for cr.mp RJ. even if you are able to frame trap with cl.mk now which you won’t you will probably end up too far away to get anything of consequence. FA if it actually will hit sliders is a nice addition but it does nothing in his terrible matchups against gief and honda. i would have liked to have seen them do something to cr.hp or sweep maybe take a frame off of that i mean E.ryu now has a sweet thats faster that adon’s st. mp and st.mk. Or give him at least one ground jagga kick that he can use vs gief…that would have been helpful. I will continue to play him because i like the character but he definitely did not get “buffed”
This happens to me a lot, I always thought it was just me skipping the whole Uppercut FADC Ultra stage completely when learning SFIV (since I first used Abel back in the day).
Honestly, Cls.MK was useless when it’s +5 because it pushed opponents waaaay too far for any damaging follow up. C.lp/C.mp follow up can only lead to the 2nd hit of LK RJ, which can’t be FADC to Ultra. My guess is that the horizontal buff they gave RJ made the LK RJ fully connect (which i doubt) so you can FADC to ultra/MK RJ/Cls.HK which would make Cls.MP useless even with the ver 2012 buff since Cls.MK is safer on block and can lead to good damage so they nerfed it to make it different.
BTW, I just found out that they swap LK RJ’s damage distribution: 1st hit does 50 damage 2nd hit does 80. Hopefully they swap it back to 80, 50 if the horizontal buff is far enough that two hit of LK RJ always hit on opponents that are pushed too far for MK RJ to connect.
A video of the locktest :
The rj mk and hk seem differents, in the end of the first round, this is a new timing for the juggle after a rj fadc or he just missed the usual timing ?
If you look at that RJ > FADC > RJ i think that’s the new horizontal hitbox in action, i was like ‘i cant believe that hit! :O’ looks very very useful
cl.mk change makes it a good meaty and still a decent trap, no matter what you’ll have good frame advantage and spacing afterwards.
I love the focus fix. so many wtf moments with that
now i want someone elses opinion is it me or is that wake up time faster for adon 29:04

The safest option in my opinion will be: cl.mk, cl.mp xx MK Jaguar Kick.
Since it will be +3 on block, and the startup of cl.mp is 5, you are safe. (leaving only 2 frames to make a reversal to your opponent, which is impossible unless you’re playing againts Gief or T-Hawk…)
Also, since cl.mk forces stand, canceling cl.mp into Mk Jaguar is the obvious optimal option here.
- If opponents block the whole string, it’s fine because MK Jaguar kick is safe on block.
- If opponent gets hit by cl.mp, it will lead to a very damaging two hit combo.
It is very good IMO…
That was a quick get up, scissor kick don’t cause a hard knockdown. Adon will never get his quick wake up EVER again.
You’re forgetting that Cls.MK cause more push back than Cls.HP (on hit and on block), I haven’t tried it in training mode yet but I am 99% sure you can’t get a close standing normal after a Cls.MK. C.MP works though but like I said previously, you’re not going to get any damaging combo after a Cls.MK.
anything else yall noticed in the video it seems as if his jagga kicks are different
I cant see any glaring changes but I have just woken up. If I had to say, id say they almost seem slower…?
…what is new about this? RJ > FADC > RJ was always possible. I’m actually worried that he didn’t get both hits on the second RJ.
What cl.MK really needs is to be meaty and be a command normal. The old collision data from Super showed it had some pretty awesome priority, but it’s irrelevant because you can only use it at ranges where it’d trade with anything they throw out anyway. They’re trying real hard to make far s.MK useful, and I’ve been able to use it a bit, but really what Adon needs is for the good versions of his normals to be command normals.
Another example is s.HK, which has no reason to have a close animation because the first hit pushes them back anyway. It’s like the close s.HK animation is supposed to be a drawback rather than an option. Which is a shame because close s.HK was a command normal is SFA2, the Jutting Kick, and it was something that you could actually use in footsies and for anti-air because you could do it on command.
I agree with all of this. RJ>FADC>Ultra/RJ is slightly more difficult than FADC>Ultra is with some other characters, but it was certainly doable. I’m a scrub and I do it all the time. So, this isn’t a buff…let’s just hope it doesn’t make it worse.
I also agree re: cl. MK. Why do they keep f*cking around with this move arbitrarily when they could give us a command normal on cl. HK that would actually make that move useful?
I was watching CC Asia, and those two kept talking about how Adon keeps getting nothing but buffs, buffs, buffs. Have they forgotten about the wakeup nerf? That was kind of a big deal.
That was a big deal, but it’s fair. If you get a hard knockdown, you shouldn’t have to memorize a completely different timing just to get a safejump, but at the same time it’s enough to avoid some safejump setups.
The problem isn’t that Adon hasn’t been getting buffs, it’s that he isn’t getting buffs to things that are really relevant. His mixups are good enough, and outside giving him a command grab, there’s nothing to really improve upon. His problems have always been getting out footsied by charge characters and not being able to dish out damage on grapplers because they trivialize his mixups. In either case, if they could just spare him another 50 health I think he’d be fine.
Why not? Lots of characters have unique properties. It makes the game interesting. I also think it goes along with Adon’s sneaky “trickster” persona. If it was really so overpowered, we would have seen Adon at the top of every tourny and we know that wasn’t the case. Just because one player managed 5th place at EVO doesn’t make the character broken…far from it. Besides, ask a shoryuken happy Ken about “safejumping.”
There are plenty of characters that have different wake up timing, usually between 1 to 2 frames faster which makes them harder to safe jump in on. For example, Gen, Ibuki, Fei long, Yun, Yang wakes up 1 frame faster which makes safe jumping in on them harder to time because their 5f reversal turns into a 4f reversal. Blanka also have weird wake up timing that makes him nearly impossible to safe jump on. Capcom should have given Adon at least 1frame faster wake instead of totally taking it away. He’ll still be hard to safe jump in on but he can’t abuse stuff like neutral jump HK on wake up but it seems Capcom only hands those out randomly or unless you were meant to be stronger than the rest.
Im impartial to the wake up speed. I started to really use Adon until AE so I don’t miss it too much, but it was really sweet.
To be honest the wake-up “nerf” seemed more like a bug fix than anything else. It was a strange unique thing. If that was un’ purpose I think another character or 2 would have had a similar wake up like that.
Edit: I do agree with the post above. They could have “fixed” it and still made it faster.
I think Blanka’s is somewhat due to his hitbox as well.
Sounds good to me!
7 frames faster than everyone was fucking insane though.
It’s was a lifesaver when characters couldn’t even reach you in time after a knockdown to apply any sort of mixup. Let alone hopelessly trying to “safejump” off a knockdown when it’s obvious they won’t reach you in time no matter if they adjust their timing or not.
Anyway it SHOULD be gone because it was bullshit but it no doubt is a big nerf. You eat more damage per round on average now simply because you can’t guess right in every mixup.
I’m still unaware how a command close HK would help any of adon’s matchups. Sure, doing the close version on accident sucks, plus it completely ruins his kara throw, but when would you go for a command HK instead of HK RJ? Maybe you have an idea but I can’t think of a single case where I would.
It was a damn perfect antiair in A2 though, but RJ sucked ass back then.
