hello everyone this is my first post. I got an unusual request from a friend he wants me to mod a SE fightstick with a d pad, removing the stick and leaving him with the arcade buttons and a sixaxis dpad.
I have been doing a of reading about dual console modding and found out the sixaxis is not a common ground, however the dpad is and that is the only part that I need to make work.
before I start soldering PCBs together I would like to know from the pros does this sound like it can be done?
I think all I would need to do is remove the stick and solder wires from the sixaxis UDLR points to the stick UDLR points and run a wire from the dpad com line to the stick ground and power the sixaxis via a usb cable.
…how would you hold that stick. Sorry, I can’t answer your questions, I’m too busy trying to figure out how the hell you would hold a stick with a dpad on it.
This. I’ve wondered about building some sort of monstrosity like what you describe. It would certainly level up my execution greatly if I had something like that but, How you would hold it is anyone’s guess.
my guess would be on your lap using your right hand to steady it and use the buttons or set it on a coffee table, and the sixaxis in your left, I plan to take the motor from a broken DS2 and put that in the sixaxis to put all the weight on the left and stay in his hand better.
my SE should be here from amazon on wed or thurs, since I am going to have the stock stick out anyway to put a jlf in I will give it a try and report back if it works.
Well… I feel I am pretty and imaginative. Other than that nice picture by Butteroj, I figure for those that would want a D-Pad on a joy stick. You would mount the D-Pad on the “joystick” in the shape of something like a stationary - I’d say gun grip, so the Thumb has full access to the D-Pad - And then you’d have the eight(6/5) buttons normally. Or make him a “Keyboard stick” This is a crazy request.
G- Grip
B- Buttons

Left hand would grip around, like a flight stick and the thumb would direct. So it acts like a handle and then he can use the base of the button hand to stabilize the control panel.
I think Fried Rice has pretty much nailed down what your aiming for JigsawFX. Pretty much what I’ve been thinking. Would love to see this made.
It would have to be some sort of cylindrical grip like a bat-top, but but larger in diameter all around and stationary. And it would have to be large enough to fit in what butteroj posted. BTW butteroj, nice find! This stick would look interesting!
Somebody on this forum said that dpad was garbage. Worse than a 360 dpad. About as bad as an Atari 5200 joystick in terms of durability and responsiveness on how they described it.
this is crazy. why not just buy a fightpad? i dont see the fun in using a d-pad on an arcade fight stick
EDIT: btw i think the d-pad would/should be mounted to the far left as possible so that the thumb would be working the d-pad while the rest of the 4 fingers of the left hand would be holding onto the fight stick. i think if this person is going to be using this in his lap than that should work out. if they use it on a table then they can just use all of their fingers on the d-pad and support would be from the table top
Weezy did a great juob explaining my thoughts better. but Phan-x I imagine your description would create balance issues. As for D-Pad… pick his favorite and MOD.
This is AWFUL. I mean great work and imagination. But this is what I speak about on Balance issues. Sswissbeatss, I used to use that for HDR on the 360. I started my Zangief/Stick Game with it.
You might of seen this by now, but this is the best rendition of the Keyboard Arcade Buttons I’ve seen to date.
