Got mine today. Thanks a LOT, Arthong! It’s amazing! Seriously, the thing looks like it came off of a factory line of shiny goodness.
Here are some pics of how well packaged it was, and how it is on my stick. Ignore the dust. Took less than 5 minutes to install. Which is a blessing due to my college finals/projects/papers due by next week. Need all the time I can get!
Slight production delay as my plastic supplier ran out of 1/16 Acrylic! The next available place is quite a drive away and I can’t get there, after my work hours, before they close. So unfortunately I won’t have more to work on until Wed. But I’m also out of town this weekend so I need to see what I can do before my departure. I’ll be emailing those who are more immediately affected by this. Sorry!
Dude, that looks great even from a phone. Are you going to take more? =D
I’m going to lean more toward next week. With the delays going on I don’t want to tack on more than I can already handle with missing a few days of production. Thanks for your patience!
Thanks dude. But I doubt I’ll be working with anything thinner than 1/16. A few reasons. First off, your common acrylic doesn’t go any thinner than 1/16. Any thinner than that for acrylic and it becomes rather specialized and starts costing like crazy. Literally 3-4x the price.
However, more common (and cheaper) pieces of that thickness are made from Polycarbonate (Lexan for familiarity) or PCB material. Both of which are highly toxic for laser cutting, therefore I cannot offer it. There are a couple of people on this board that are capable of either cutting, or acquiring, polycarbonate cuts for you if you so desire.
But also, when you’re talking about thickness of 1/32 or thinner, it becomes incredibly thin, like a film. At that point, to me, you lose a bit of the light refraction that gives the piece its elegance. And when it’s that thin, just the screws alone may not hold it in place while you’re vigorously playing your game. Think of putting a thin piece of laminate over your panel, and only using the screws to keep the sides in place. You’ll have the corners or the sides coming out depending on the stress you apply to it. You’d have to pretty much apply adhesive to the whole sheet to keep if flattened.
Anyways, there are other cons to thinner pieces, even mentioned to me by a few who tried said thinner pieces. But no need to write a novel here. Still, the choice is yours. You’d have to compare it side by side to really see which you prefer, or get reviews from those who have tried.
Still in the works. Someone’s hooking me up with an SE Shell. Once I get the process down and double check how well a 1/16 can take countersinking I’ll update this thread. But prob won’t be for a couple weeks more, or longer. Lots of good movies coming out in May. I kinda want a couple weekends out with the GF, lol.
yeah dude, lets chill at a Starbucks when you’re around. I work at Redwood city during the day, so that should be relatively close to you. Lets work something out. PM or Email me later.
Yeah, whatever works dude. Soon as you make the order, if you haven’t already, have Glory email me and reference your info. Either case, we’ll work it out.
Yeah dude, thanks again for letting me use your graphics. Worked out great =) Looking forward to seeing it on the stick!
Damn, it got there hella quick! I didn’t even have a chance to email you about it yet, lol. Wow, all your pics have this heavenly glow to it… whoaaa. And you used up the last of my peanuts… been using paper filling for the rest of the orders =P.
Got mine today too!
PERFECTO.
Haven’t put it on yet, because I want to take my sweet time with it. I been busy as well, with work mostly, then running back and forth from the post office.
What a life…huh.
Looks good though, I’ll let you know tomorrow after work. This working thing gets in the way of alot shit.
I was negligent and completely forgot to post in this thread after I got my top.
Acrylic top is hotness. Art did an awesome job. I was worried that the little ‘lip’ (the part that sticks up beyond the casing) would interfere with the comfort of my hands but I’ve honestly never even noticed it.
Here’s some pics of my stick with the top on it. Ignore the Shitty pictures.cutting.lighting.etc.
Yeah dude, that’s freakin nice! Another Daft Fan submitted his Daft art to me, asking about some layout questions, and I had to point him to this thread to check yours out =).
Art, or anyone else - I just wanted to make sure before I ordered. Does this plexi replace the red panel that comes stock with the TE, or does it go over it?
Yep, it’s 11x17. As for Res, I would use 1600x1200 at least, but it depends on the dpi settings too. I basically used the TiaTemp.psd floating around and stretch the image to fit pass the borders, save and print out at kinkos. Turns out pretty well.
You would have to remove the buttons and the joystick ball top to put the plexi on top, then put everything back. It’s fairly easy, just a little time consuming.
It is suggested to replace it, if you don’t want it to protrude further up. However, you can just place it on top of the original art and see how that works for you.
